you can get flat irons from front shoulder blades but they're small, thin, and not easy to trim out.

when field dressing don't open the thing right up from butt hole up past sternum like some do. also leave the hide on if not getting to it right away and hang back legs up. sooner you skin it if you can the easier it'll be though. remove wind pipe and esophagus from the neck as soon as you can. separate quarters by muscles with a membrane between them most of the time. more fat, silver skin, membrane, and connective tissue you can remove the better and tastier the result. base of neck and in the quarters you have lymph node glands, don't cut through them if you can help it and discard them right away after you break things down/apart. don't let meat sit in liquid draining from it, say in the fridge if it's not vacuum sealed until you get to the rest of it. put it in containers that'll let it drain. i've cut deer up for over 20 years (started before I could hunt myself). always watch videos despite many are in convenient butcher shops vs a garage, shed, or barn. always curious. youtube bearded butcher videos have been posted here before and seem good. get a cheap but good 5-6" flexible boning knife from victorinox or dexter russell. then a 4" 'rabbit skinner'. all you really need for cutlery.

sounds like mystery meat. i get cuts of beef from butcher counter only like whole chuck and grind it up myself. ground at places like walmart worry me. lol

flip careful method never works with how much i trim it out. need some kind of binder. good news though venison tacos are awesome and no binder needed.

i've never added anything. we use it for all kinds of stuff. just used ground venison with nothing added for lasagna. i did grind in bulk bacon ends with some of it this season so i can make burgers at work and not worry about messing with egg and sometimes bread crumbs. you just have to not cook the hell out of it, even though it's ground.

sitting in the office. now's a good time to be in the woods though. last night met with friends and saw some cam photos and 1 hero shot of really nice deer. all 5.5+ yrs old and giant. checked all my cams and came up with many bucks but nothing bigger than a few 2.5 yr old 8 pointers and a 6 (no brows).

got chinese food the other night. have lots of Duck Sauce left over. not really a fan.

i contacted them just over 10 years ago about my TC ProHunter with the quarter turn with a threaded plug (using tool not tool-less). they just said to use a 1/8" drill bit to make sure the primer hole is completely clear of build up as well as use a torch tip cleaner or something similar to make sure the flash hole at the end is clear. sent me photos.

hunt where the deer are not where they've been. sign only helps you figure that out.

much of where i go i can't or won't use screw in steps. if i had a saddle system i'd be using Wild Edge Steppladder steps. you're still pretty heavy with even the lightest stick/step system and platform though. i still don't have upgraded straps on my climber but i should.

my open shot climber is listed at 14 lbs. yours must be steel not aluminum and have saddle bags! lol i don't blame you for not wanting to lug that thing around.

it depends on how far a low spot in the wall would divert their path of travel. i agree with the info that you could likely find a path/trail the deer will follow. i wouldn't blow off the idea a low spot in the wall means little to nothing though. deer often travel the path of least resistance or effort.

seems like you could fall out of what you posted. modern tree saddles really you can't. what you posted looks like an old window washing hoist. not trying to detract from the ingenuity. just seems safer and developed more now.

doesn't have to be. typically from pork belly though. deer cuts are a lot smaller but there's thin cuts in a lot of places on a deer that you could use and cure/smoke the same way i'd think despite i've never done bacon.

i think you're missing the idea that in recent years they've become much more refined. you couldn't pay me to hunt to the best property in the country out of what you posted.

honestly whether it takes 3 minutes or 15 minutes does it really make a damn bit of difference? lol

looks good from the pictures. did the screening come out okay? that's really important to keep people honest. don't see spruce in the road pic.

i always processed deer my self but anytime i do venison products like that i have it done. much easier and less hassle.

i would've said scope mounts too but seems like you've figured out it's the scope. normally it's not anything loose but just poor ring fit or screws tightened with uneven pressure.

good crossbow for the money. just saying.

i have nothing against any of those. i haven't used my muzzleloader much in recent years but did pick up some Blackhorn 209. it made sense as the pellets i have are getting older (less consistent) and Triple7 has me horrified to leave it in the barrel for any length of time. i don't need another breech plug for my TC Prohunter just need to make sure it's cleaned out well. lighted nocks i'm not against. i don't like less FOC and have enough 100 grain heads to last a really long time to offset that weight. added cost isn't thrilling me either. I've gotten away just fine without them though. I do like visual impact you get but almost all of the time your focused and see your arrow path or hair get disturbed. lighted nock or not it's still not 100% if you've shot enough deer with a bow to realize shot can be off a little from where you thought you saw it was. saddle system is the least bit appealing to me, despite i see multiple advantages. i can't argue it's definitely lighter if you pick the right step system to climb. i do agree the mobility for a shot almost all the way around the tree is there and more so then with a conventional stand. jury's still out if a given individual has the skill to move that much undetected though. tree with low branches is fair game with saddle system versus my climber. is cost isn't even close. saddle system with steps or sticks is at least twice the cost my climber and aftermarket harness was. i hate so many parts to a saddle setup too. my climber there's less parts fall out of my pack or for me to drop. anyone have any idea how long a saddle harness lasts before you're supposed to replace it? it can't be different than a regular harness.
