  1. This is my take just from my experience. Moon phase seems to have nothing to do with timing of the rut. it can't. For years I hunted based on rutting moon phase calendars that didn't seem to help. Here it seems like the phases of the rut happen around the same time every year within a couple weeks. makes sense as breeding has to happen very close to the same time every year or the fawns would get shorted opportunity getting ready for the winter. nature just doesn't do that. in fairness I do notice activity changes related to moon phase, but that's in relation to doe feeding and indirectly bucks. deer gorge themselves on food, rest, then do it again in cycles day and night to be best off for winter. seems like there's more deer out at night running across roads when i'm not hunting and/or piling in later after last light with me stuck in a stand when there's with a big bright full moon. weather trumps moon phase still. if nasty weather is coming in you'll see feeding right before. if it's prolonged you'll have feeding right after, that has otherwise disrupted this pattern. i could understand decades ago, how a spike in activity could be perceived as the rut kicking in when in reality it already did. today we have trail cameras working 24/7 that'd otherwise show us rutting behavior when we aren't there. behavior we otherwise wouldn't think was taking place.
  2. same experience here until late season when the rest of the ag is off and not much is still green.
  3. How dare you shoot deer behind my office while im stuck sitting here at my desk! lol Can't guarantee I'll be around, as I have site visits and what not but if you need help again PM me for contact info.
  4. Seems very odd to run a candidate that lost previously. i mean i know it was somewhat close but still. you'd think they'd go with some fresh candidate not leftovers.
  5. doesn't seem like a yearling doe so where did it come from?? no history in prior seasons? also we had a full white spike horn that didn't make it. all white except its head. had others too but haven't seen this type of pattern. cool deer.
  6. she's getting lots of attention on Facebook. Bob already set the standard. He passed it with a recurve at close range. Sorry guys if you're going to take this one you're asking for a participation trophy or you got to chase it down and tackle it with a knife. lol
  7. Lunch. Have cafe nextdoor to new office run by mazzone hospitality. Bacon, carmelized onions, spiced apples, American and cheddar blend cheese on a toasted baguette roll. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  10. still hunting that spot. tree is still there i sat behind with my dad before i could legally carry a gun and hunt. now i've got a hangon stand in any given location a stones throw away from it. i hunt it practically every year on opening day of gun season. tradition i guess but it's a good spot that produces a buck. whether it's a bigger one i'll shoot is depends on what's around. still i sit there.
  11. twice for a couple hours each time. can't kill them sitting on the couch.
  12. hope you do well with it. bunch of people around here but don't seem to put themselves out there so you'd never know it.
  13. 2.5 years old any time of the day or season! so i agree with the others. weight wise from our co-op we've had 2.5 yr old bucks range from 120lbs to 180 lbs field dressed depending on how late or early in the season. that's out of maybe a couple hundred bucks.
  14. that's where the term roman nose really comes from. a mature buck who's skull is done growing and starts looking like a wedge. lol awesome buck.
  15. Quivers are vastly different. Some really put weight out there to change the side to side balance. I've tried it before but didnt care for it enough. Honestly the best quicker you can own is a Tightspot. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. baseball bat sound can be either hitting bone or wood near the deer. bone not necessarily a bad hit either. lung blood doesn't always look pink. it'll have small bubbles much of the time though. that kind of looks like it. without being there harder to say. hopefully the deer will make it. i agree i've had perfect hits and sometimes it takes a little time to start bleeding. hair and everything keeps it from hitting the ground sooner. other times it's like you sprayed red weed killer.
  17. they do and still get ridiculously great accuracy. i tie the D-loop on to minimize it then have each "knot" opposing the other.
  18. way to go Tom. i'm sure there will be more. the seasons young. thanks for everything you do!
  19. congrats mine was on Sept 29th. scheduled my marriage around bow season then DEC moved it up a couple weeks. some years i miss the first week or so if we go away. lol
  20. I used to use Muck Arctic Sport boots but they blew out. even those with all the rubber over your whole foot seemed like they got cold eventually if the temps were really low. i wear a single pair of wool socks. can't be a tight fit. i don't even know what the name of the ones i have now are for later season. they're leather on top with a sole underneath. at least 800 grams of thinsulate insulation and waterproof. pretty heavy though. they keep my feet warm for a while. been meaning to pick up a heavier pair of boots to replace the mucks but i've gotten away with the others just fine despite they aren't very comfortable. if i was doing a big woods hunt i'd be shopping.
  21. So on stand at the farm I saw 2 doe I posted a picture of. Fast forward to dark i went to the actual farm/parents house. Pull in and there's deer in the every yard around the house side, front, and back! Dont think you could throw a baseball into the darkness without coming close to hitting one. I stopped counting at 18 or 20. Couldnt get them all in a picture. This was just the small field right next to the house. Was backing up to the cellar door to load up some stuff. Field was seeded in winter rye. Apple trees in the backyard. Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. Deer selfie. blurry lens from rain. 2 doe within 40 yards for the picture. Something made them nervous at the other end and drove them off the field. Must have been that 30 pointer that never came out into the field. Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  23. Lots a rain and no deer. Tons of acorns around when putting out cams. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  24. Put out 4 trail cams. On stand waiting for deer. Sure is windy! Views from my stand. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  25. Windows prepped and door in. Windy as all hell here but will pack up and head out to the woods. Hoping I dont blow away. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
