  1. As soon as someone can explain to me how shooting 1.5 year old 6 and 8 pt bucks ( or even 2.5's) lets bucks reach their potential, I revisit my opposition to state wide AR. Good luck.
  2. Their serrations are a square U shape - l_l. My understanding is that the top leading edge of each U is a like a new point and is very effective at grabbing and slicing veins and arteries. I have heard far better explanations then mine , but can testify to the hole they leave and the blood on the ground. I do think the serrations help maintain a sharper edge while passing thru the animal - a huge plus.
  3. The serrations on the Magnus are different from those on knives. They don't need the sawing effect to be effective like knife serrations. As WNYB said, the stinger comes 2 blade only, 2 blade with bleeders - all serrated or non - blades and bleeders are replacable but resharpen easily. Strong steel and about as sharp as anything out of the box. They hold their sharpness exceedingly well going thru the animal - a quality even more important then initial sharpness. Each is hand spun before shiping - I like them.
  4. Around me I doubt they could garner 50% support - and that is generous.
  5. Then it's not the permits that are the problem. If there are violations, report them.
  6. Nuisance permits cannot just be handed out - only 2 shooters can be listed and all kills must be reported and tags filled. They cannot be used anywhere but the designated areas. There are strick rules in place - if you know of them being abused, pick up the phone and report them.
  7. Hard to shoot does if you are a gun hunter only and don't have a tag where you hunt. I hunt all 3 seasons SZ and have lots of opportunities and tags for does most years. Therefore I don't look to take younger bucks regardless of the rack or lack of it - but have no wish to tell others what is acceptable for them. If I hunted where opportunities where rare, I'd look to put a deer in the freezer even if it was a 1 1/2 buck.
  8. I am in the archery season with a recurve - you know, a real bow. Just think that all archery equipment should be included as well.
  9. Nothing - that's what I figured. And now everyone else knows it as well. I'm relaxed - at least till the family reunion starts tomorrow.
  10. OK - let's talk about what my "other agenda" is that you accused me of having and then disappeared when called on it. I really need to know as I have no clue as to what it is without you telling me. ;D Remember - this is your chance to totally discredit me - if you have any proof to back up whatever it is to claim to know about my hidden agenda.
  11. Draw loc - you mean the devise that calls itself a vertical crossbow?
  12. Geno - are you the guy I sent info too for Palmer Realty? If so, find any land yet?
  13. Not to speak for BSH, but I would say you guys are not really the target of his post. You do allow your land to be hunted and bring people. There are more then a few qdm operations that so tightly restrict access as to be rediculus. Not advocating forcing them to do otherwise - just pointing out what could be the biggest obstacle to future hunting - access.
  14. Thanks Geno - wasn't trying to argue - just to understand.
  15. I am lucky enough to have never smoked - I say lucky cause I know I'm not that smart, or certainly wasn't as a kid when everyone I knew and my whole family did. If I did, I think I would be more concerned with all the extra movement required then the actual smell.
  16. I think regardless of diet, 99% or better of the spikes you see are at least a 1 1/2 yo. A fawn with spikes about never happens. . So which is it? Either you shoot 1 1/2 bucks or you don't. I really don't care either way - just trying to figure out what you are saying. It appears that you will shoot a nicer 1 1/2 to fill a tag, but not a spike 1 1/2. That doesn't make sense to me - again, I don't care, just trying to understand. And no, I don't shoot 1.5 or even anyhing I think is 3.5 - by choice, but I have a lot of opportunities and tags for does. .
  17. A spike under a year old in hunting season is probably rarer then an albino. I have to ask - will you shoot a 1 1/2 year old 4, 6 or 8 point? If so, why do you pass a spike that is most likely the same age?
  18. For the time being but when the bill gets signed , the Cross-guns will get into the archery season ......It's just a matter of time . I agree Crossbows will be included soon. Crossguns will have to wait until they are invented. ;D
  19. BSH - great article and followup. The Mississippi study was what really got my attention a few years ago. Ar by points at 1st glance seems logical. If anyone can look at it deeper without the attitude that we need change - good or not - it falls apart rapidly , especially as a statewide program.
  20. Pure speculation and opinion here on training: New bowhunters will recieve the safety traing incorporated into the existing course. Existing bowhunters should probably get training on crossbows - a one hour safety course would cover it. I would hate to see the courses get bogged down by numbers if existing bowhunters are required to retake the entire course just for the crossbow aspect - there are too few courses now to add that strain.
  21. Testy? Perhaps a little when someone basically calls me a liar, smiles and runs away. Like I said Chevy - man up and let us all know what my other "agendas" might be. Here is your chance to discredit anything I have to offer - time to let your butt cash the check your mouth wrote.
  22. My agenda is that it is wrong to keep any archery equipment out of the season based on anyone's desire that only their choice is "the one". And is is more then a little hypocritical of anyone using a modern tricked out compound to be against crossBOWS because they are "too easy". If you want to suggest I have any other agenda, man up and post it rather then make vague accusations and dance around it.
  23. Proves nothing of the sort. It shows that half or so of the bowhunters still use vertical bows - their choice. The herd has been going for a long time in Ohio - last few years, they have increased greatly the number of tags available. They have also added to the gun season because bowhunters - with and without crossBOWS are not getting the job done. If anything what you posted supports the fact that the crossBOW has little effect on the harvest from increased pressure. How about the proof that the crossBOW is the poacher's weapon of choice - still looking for that??
