He made a very good speech. To the point, without insulting anyone on the other side of the issue, unlike we see here from the pro-gun side. I have a hunch he will win the majority of the publics support with at least the universal background checks for ALL gun sales, and magazine capacity limit. The total assault weapons ban I am not sure about, but again, that part of the law is all cosmetic anyway. People will still be able to buy the same weapon without some of the so called "evil" features, and that's pretty much it. The paranoia and rally cries from the pro-gun side that he is out to confiscate all weapons will not go very far this time out. Will only make them look like fools and that's about it. Time for gun owners to agree on some sensible improvements to gun laws and go on with it.

Your link doesn't seem to work, but I just listened to Obama's speech elsewhere. Exactly where does anyone hear him say that he is implementing a ban on anything by executive order??? He flat out states that all of this must be presented to Congress in order to become law. Now I have numerous issues with Obama, but you guys are really reaching for the heavens when you accuse him for being a tyrant here.

What BS. We shall see what the courts decide on the constitutionality of this new law. My hunch is that it doesn't stand a chance of being overturned. AR and AK rifles can still be had without those so called "evil" features, so this law is far from an outright ban on anything. Using the Heller case precedent won't apply here. You watch an see.

You can rest assured, that Cuomo will NEVER be the president of the US. With his arrogant speech patterns and persona he does not stand a chance. Even Christie of NJ who can be a bully looks like a saint compared to Cuomo.

Absolutely! You have some here trying to rally everyone, thinking that gun owners actually have a chance. Come on look at how easily this law passed?? Even many republicans voted for it. They surely can move to more gun friendly states if they don't like it here. But I do have news for them. The winds of change will reach those places too one day. May not be as quick as here, but I can assure them that it will. Societies ideas about things change and it's changing fast about gun ownership, even among gun owners. Those who don't want to believe it can continue not believing it, but in the long run it will be their loss.

I think the question was how many hunters own AR's. It is obvious that many people own them, and I'm sure more than a few hunters own them, but I don't think all hunters are rabid gun nuts, and all rabid gun nuts are hunters. I would put the AR's as the "gotta have" gun for the rabid gun nuts more often than it would be for the typical Joe hunter. Of the hunters I know personally outside this forum, I too do not know of anyone who has an AR or wants to own one.

I thought the new ADL's come with 24 inch barrels these days? I myself like 22 inch barrels in the non-magnum rounds like the .270. Adding 2 inches to a barrel gives you a tiny bit more of velocity which won't make a bit of difference at any reasonable yardage.

I think it's nothing more than a big sales pitch by gun manufacturers to say that these AR type guns are now the future of hunting guns. Many manufacturers, gun magazines, etc. make them sound like they are the next best thing since sliced bread. I really don't think that's the case, but of course to sell stuff people will tell you anything, and there are always some who will believe it.

I think it depends what age bracket you are in. If you are under 30, you most likely are falling for the AR fad. If you are over 40 or 50, you could probably care less about them, let alone hunt with them. I do think that the percentage of people that do hunt with them has been greatly exaggerated by the gun industry. Yeah, some may hunt big-game with them, but I really don't think it's nearly as many as they say. There are better big-game weapons in many BETTER calibers in my opinion for a lot less money than an AR. Some may hunt coyotes and other varmints with them, but I don't think there are very many who go hunt coyotes or varmints specifically anyway, in comparison to deer hunters, so these numbers are relatively low. Generally, I think people buy these guns to shoot at targets, zombies or other things or because they think they look cool.
