Ted Nugent on CNN tonight
steve863 replied to First-light's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
God help us yet again! It's interesting to read some of the comments at the bottom of the link. Even those who support gun rights think that he is a total nut case. Never mind those who don't agree with him. So exactly how is he helping us with such rants on mainstream TV?? One of the great mysteries of the world known only to those shooters and hunters out there who DO actually love him I guess. To everyone else he is a complete loser. LOL -
almost all school budgets go thru?? Big Rant!
steve863 replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
Teaching children is not always an easy job. I think most teachers are underpaid for what they have to do and the value to society that they can be. Yeah, not all teachers are perfect, but to me I hold there value up there with medical doctors and way above lawyers(AKA leeches). A teachers pay surely isn't comparable to either of these. No, no one likes to pay taxes that are excessive, but when it comes to education I think it is money well spent and money that will benefit all our futures. We are the most advanced country under the sun, so why should our education system be worse than a third world nation? Bitching about teachers pay makes very little sense in my opinion. Maybe we can have funds apportioned to education from other tax sources to avoid excess property tax on individuals, but I really don't think teachers are paid too much anywhere in this state. -
send letters for crossbows in NY
steve863 replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
imagine how popular it would be if we discussed shooting spikes with a crossbow....not wearing orange....and being 12 years old 1 minute before sunrise! And three sheets to the wind. Does anyone know whether he is a Ted Nugent fan?? -
Boots are definitely not what they used to be as far durability. I think in general they are more comfortable and break in a lot faster these days, but they will definitely NOT last as long. If you get 5 seasons out of them you are probably doing good, eventhough it sort of doesn't make sense that they only last this long. It's not like we wear them every day so they should last longer. Rubber boots are good for short walks in wet stuff. The surely aren't made for long hikes. Your feet would look like minced meat if you walked 5 miles in them and it wouldn't matter how much you paid for them either.

All I know is that the poor boy in the picture looks a little bleary eyed, so 5:50AM was probably way too early for him to be out of bed!! LOL

Some P-R money spent
steve863 replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
No, I don't think anyone is suggesting that new roads be built for handicapped access (at least I'm not). That certainly wasn't part of the original discussion. On the other hand, there may be those that would question taking away access to places where it already exists via declaration of "forever wild" designation. My whole argument with all this is using Pittman-Robertson money in this fashion. I don't believe it is appropriate since it is a purchase that almost all hunters will never be able to use (handicapped or not). If the state wants to get money for this kind of foolishness let them go thru the regular legislative processes and let's see how eagerly the state will part with the cash in these kinds of economic times. But use P-R resources for activities that will benefit those that fund them. I just can't agree that "almost all hunter will never be able to use" this land. No one is barring them from hunting it, hunters just need to understand that it will be a different type of hunting, i.e. a more demanding one. Some people hunt private land, some people hunt heavily hunted public land, some hunt over food plots, some still hunt, some never seem to get off their ATV's. All are different types of hunting. It's up to the hunter to decide what will best suit them. If anyone is to blame for this land becoming "forever wild" and closed to motorized travel it's the private company who sold it, and not the DEC who used P-R funds to buy it. I surely don't mind having some hikers benefitting from this purchase. If anything we can use it as bragging rights that hunters are in the forefront to preserve nature, wildlife, and outdoor recreation for everyone no matter what their outdoor interest may be. -
Good one. Since it's men we are talking about here, I would bet that not too many from the group attended the 85 year old get together. Probably not many at the 75 year old either. A good many were probably resting comfortably 6 feet under already. The martinis and other booze along with the finicky things that fit into those tight pants probably didn't help them to reach those ages. LOL

Yeah, that's what I figured you guys would say. Probably the right thing to do in the long run when one stops to think what a chick magnet can lead to. You know what I mean. step 1-Chick magnet attracts girl. step 2-Girl disconnects magnet. step 3-Girl firmly attaches ball and chain around the neck of the guy. LOL And that is how I came to not own a motorcycle anymore...lol There you go, Doe!! The best we can hope for is that they might put a little padding around that steel neck collar, and that's about it. For some guys it's spikes! LOL -

Since this bike is a chick magnet, should I even bother to ask who you guys would try to catch first if they were both falling at the same time, the bike or the chick?? LOL -
Some P-R money spent
steve863 replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I don't want to sound uncompassionate toward physically challenged people, but I see absolutely NO reason why excessive amounts of money needs to be spent to help these people get into the most remote regions in places like the Adirondacks. Yeah, maybe spend some money in campsites, state parks or other areas to make things easier for them, but why does anyone need to worry about getting them into very remote areas?? Doesn't make sense. So do we now build paved hiking trails to reach the highest peaks just so we can roll a wheel chair to the top for the few physically challenged people who want to go there?? Call me uncompassionate, but lines have to be drawn somewhere to what is feasible. -
I think the only advantage the VTR model has over the other M700's is that it has a 22" barrel, which I think is more than long enough for a .308 or the other standard calibers. For the life of me I can't understand why Remington makes most of it's M700 models in 24" for standard calibers and 26" for the magnums. Only the old BDL and mountain rifle and now the VTR can you get a 22" incher for standard calibers. 24" is just too long for my taste and the little added velocity you might get means absolutely nothing in the field.

I guess this could be considered another trespassing?? I bet if you confronted them their excuse would be full of hot air! LOL
-
I would completely agree with Culver. If you are going to be doing a lot of shooting and will be using factory ammo than the 7mm-08 and any of the other choices mentioned here will be considerably more expensive than a .308. If you want to shoot a lot and for as little money as possible than the 3 least expensive choices are the .22LR, .223 and the .308. You will have a slew of ammo available for these calibers.

I don't know what would happen then. Maybe you can mail it to NYantler or one of the other experts in antler measuring here and they could give you some better info. Make sure you send it by registered mail so it doesn't get lost.
-
You took the words out of my mouth!! This measurement nonsense is completely polluting the sport. Some hunters would lob off their left you know whats to get those extra few inches of antler measurement. Total BS. You mean if I cut that off and glue it to the rack, it wont count in the book? ??? DOH!!! I heard that it depends how big your "you know what" is. You get 5 to 10 inches of antler measurement depending on the size of it. Of course the buck would then need to be listed as a non-typical. LOL

Worlds Largest Army!

LOL, typical manipulation of facts. First you talk about states with high crime rates and then you try to come up with excuses why these states might have high crime rates. Are there any excuses for states like NY, CA, MA, etc or shouldn't they count? Using states like WY, MT and ID as examples to your point of view is downright ridiculous. I've been to WY and MT, a good many times and there are more antelope and deer there than people and even the biggest towns are nothing more than a couple of city blocks in any big city, so you cannot compare them to any other state. Those states don't resemble any others even in the slightest way. The populations is as milk white as you will find anywhere in this country, and you should know damned well that this is not the case and NEVER will be any place else in this country. You accuse people who don't oppose common sense gun laws as supporting them. That is because you know very little of the typical gun owner in this country. You think they all think like you do and are as fanatical about them as you are, but guess what?? You are wrong big time! LOL -
It seems like many people worry about not nicking the crown. I tell you I have one rifle that I inherited from a late uncle that looks like someone put a file to the crown. He used to clean it with a cheap aluminum rod from the front end eventhough it was a bolt-action and he did a most wonderful job in chiseling down the crown real good. I can't imagine how well this gun must have shot before the crown damage because it shoots as good as I could want from a .30-06 even with a craggly looking crown! I for one wouldn't worry about being rough with the cleaning rod a time or two.
-
At least we are good for something in this world! LOL
-
Doe, but you've got to admit that those are our favorite kind?
-
I knew it!! I always figured some kinky stuff must have been going on back in those days also. Founding fathers my foot! Maybe it was more like fondling fathers!! LOL
-
Of course we need to wait for VJP's argument that permits for row boats are unconstitutional on the basis that George Washington used one to the cross the Delaware back in 1776. If Georgie boy could row one without a permit, why can't we???
-
As long as you row merrily, if not you need a non-merrily permit. lol And to get that non-merrily permit you will need a full FBI background check.
-
No registration needed for those who row gently down the stream.
