  1. If you've got close to $5000 to waste, then you can have one of these. As is generally the case with anything made in Germany, it has an unusual design. What do you guys think of it?? http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/gun-nuts/2011/04/rifle-review-krieghoff-semprio-slide-action-big-game-rifle-part-i
  2. I have access to private land I hunt on in NY. No point in buying more land in NY, can only shoot 1 buck per year anyway. I can't say that I'd ever buy property in NY or elsewhere solely for hunting either. Just doesn't add up in my opinion. Even small acreage of 30 to 50 acres will cost you a good penny in most places in NYS these days and you will be paying ever increasing taxes on it as long as you own it. Lets say the property cost as little as $30K, one could go on a good many guided deer hunts for that money, and in many cases your odds of success will be much better than hunting only one relatively small spot in NYS.
  3. The WMD that Iraq had used against it's own people wasn't anything so sophisticated where we needed to go to war and occupy the country for as long as we have. Absolutely nothing they had could not have been had by anyone else in the world, many of whom also see the US as their enemy. So the question will surely remain to the real reasons behind it all. In my mind it will forever be a waste of money and American lives. Not that history has shown that any regime change in that area has been for the better. I would let them all lob each others heads off to their hearts content and not get in the middle of it. Hopefully they can all kill each other without our help. I agree with what you say about Bin Laden. The same could be said about Saddam Hussien also.
  4. Forget about the iron sights. Get used to shooting thru a scope and iron sights should never be necessary. Finding game thru a scope can be made easier if you keep both eyes open when taking aim. That is what I do and have never had difficulty in picking up game even with a scope set at 5X at relatively short range. Whatever you do, don't buy those mounts that you can see the iron sights thru them. I have never seen one of these mounts that wasn't anything other than cheap aluminum junk.
  5. We could have paid for a whole LOT of public education with the money that has been spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. We went to Iraq because of WMD that were never there and went to Afghanistan to find Bin Laden who still hasn't been found. I guess that's why they then try to brainwash us into thinking that they went there to protect our freedoms. Surely can't be for any other good reason, can it???
  6. I would have preferred that our government kept the money for better purposes here than carrying out senseless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan all these years. And it hasn't been chump change that has been spent over there either. Of course we are told that they are doing it to protect our freedoms here. I say BS to that.
  7. Those turkey and grouse shots especially are pretty amazing coming from a trail camera. Looks like they were posing for glamour shots of themselves.

    weird

If she had been someone who hunts, but really didn't shoot a gun very often, I would give her the benefit of the doubt. But since she was a very experienced shooter who even shot at 1000 yard targets and was considered a really good shot, I think she should have darned well known not to pull the trigger unless she was 110% sure of her target. You are right, she is the ONLY one who knows for sure what happened, but if she did shoot him because she wanted to, she definitely picked the right way to do it and get away with it!!

    weird

See, that's why I would never dream of taking my wife hunting!!! Not like she couldn't bludgeon me after I fall asleep on the couch with the remote control in my hand, but she probably couldn't get off as easy as this woman if she tried to do that!

    weird

Yeah, and it maybe brings up one more issue, which is that we maybe shouldn't hunt with our wives if we are having any marital issues or if the wife recently took out a bigger life insurance plan on us! LOL
  11. You got that right, Doc! Most don't have enough stamina to walk the 150 yards to their tree stands either. They need an ATV to get to it! LOL

    weird

Talk about a weird "hunting" accident, did anyone catch that Dateline story last Friday night where a wife shot her husband while out hunting? Quite a story. Here is the link where you can watch the whole segment. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032600/vp/42724030#42724030 It's the April 22 story called "As darkness fell".
  13. LOL! Well put, Doc. Legal papers are being drawn up as you read this and should be delivered to your door tomorrow. LOL
  14. So you are saying that non-hunters are getting to see Nugent ranting on TV because guys like me and Doewhacker are pointing a few things out about him on this forum?? Sorry, but me and Doe have absolutely JACK to do with him loving to bring himself into the spotlight on mainstream TV.
  15. No, because the other celebrities don't go on mainstream TV like he does. They don't need to seek him out like they would Jordan, Bushman or the others who are unknown to any non-hunter. He has appeared enough time on mainstream talking about guns and hunting for a good many to know who he is. And he is better known for his current antics than for any music he ever put out also. I and other hunters had absolutely nothing to do with him becoming known by non-hunters. Sorry, but he is quite good in promoting himself without my help.
  16. His type of music is also not my cup of tea, but from what I have heard and read on the subject, it seems he was a second rate rock star in his hey day, so I can't imagine he is setting the world on fire with his music these days either. I would imagine his music fan base is quite small. You may be right.. but I think 35 million albums sold and voted one of the top 25 solo rock artists would make him a bit better than 2nd rate... and if his fan base is presently quite small.. then I guess we have nothing to worry about with the non-hunters hearing much of what he has to say... I don't know of too many non hunters that follow anything that has to do with hunting anyway... they couldn't care less either Well non-hunters do see him on all sorts of mainstream TV programs, so it has nothing to do with his fan base. He has appeared on TV political discussion show, late night talk shows and many others. He appears on most of them as an advocate for guns and hunting. His music is irrelevant at this point and his fan base is insignificant in any way.

  18. If you don't already know and I think you don't, there is a difference between non-hunters and anti-hunters. Yeah, obviously anti-hunters have their minds made up and nothing will change it. Non-hunters are those who really don't have definite pro or con opinions. Most people fall into the non-hunter category. Throw Nugent at them as an example of how hunters should act and talk and they just might come to some conclusions. Get even more people on the anti-hunting bandwagon and tell me how this can possibly help our pastime?
  19. I think the durability of an air rifle is quite a bit less than that of .22 rimfire. You can shoot even an inexpensive .22 for years without any need for repairs. Shoot an air rifle a lot or even a little in some cases and you will probably need to service something on it sooner or later. I can see the safety and noise factors for some wanting to use one, but otherwise I would take a .22 rimfire over an air rifle any day of the week!
  20. Congratulations to you! It is NO doubt a very big day in ones life when a child is born, one that will never be forgotten.
  21. Yeah, he draws some of our attention. And why do you think this is so? Since you don't seem to understand why, I will tell try to tell you. He above any other hunter draws the attention of the non-hunters out there. Do the Bill Jordans, Jackie Bushmans, Craig Boddingtons of the hunting world draw the same kind of attention from non-hunters?? No way! That is why some of us are very vocal against Nugent. He has proclaimed himself the representative of hunters to mainstream America and many hunters think he is exactly the WRONG kind of person we need representing us. The guy appears on stage at his concerts with AR-15's in his hands, spews verbal rants against the president, the government and any one who might disagree with him in the slightest. If that is what you want the non-hunting public to think all hunters are like, then you can go ahead and love the guy. I for one don't go out in public brandishing any firearms and don't want society to think all hunters support such behavior. Very simple really. Some of you think it is jealousy that sets us off against Nugent, when the truth is something very different. We are concerned about how our pastime is represented to non-hunters out there and that is why we speak out against a guy like Nugent.
  22. LOL! Towards the end of the clip he says that he is "stoned on nature". Hopefully that's the only thing he is stoned on. I for one will never be totally convinced!!
  23. Heck Burt, if you are so good in getting that close to gobblers, you don't even need to bring a call with you. Just wait till he jumps down off the tree and go BOOM! Sort of like saying good morning and good night to old Mr. Tom all at once!! LOL
  24. I think you are pretty lucky to have gotten that close. I have seen them fly off the tree in the dark when spooked. I don't think I would want to set up closer than 100 yards.
  25. Like someone said, spring bear are usually hunted with bait or dogs in the states and provinces where it is allowed. Neither will ever happen in NYS, thus I think it would be difficult to implement a season. The one and only bear I shot in British Columbia 20 years ago, did not look very appetizing when skinned, thus I didn't take the meat and honestly the outfitter and the hunters hunting with him could have cared less about bear meat. A bear looks too darned human when skinned for me to want eat bear meat. Thus I will never shoot another bear again. Don't want the hide or meat so why shoot one? This link has interesting examples of how a bear resembles a human. http://www.lab.fws.gov/idnotes/IDG11_BearHumanFeet.pdf
