DOING A CONTROVERSAL ESSAY FOR ENGLISH CLASS
steve863 replied to Robinson446's topic in General Chit Chat
You are young so I will give you the benefit of the doubt and leave you alone here. For us older boys, may God help us if the rest of society thinks that we all walk in the image of Nugent! We surely will need the help. -
DOING A CONTROVERSAL ESSAY FOR ENGLISH CLASS

OK, we can leave it right here then. I do however hope that you will be honest enough to also tell us what your grade was and what comments if any your teacher made about this essay. I myself think the word "great" needs to be used sparingly in front of peoples names. I think we all know who some "great" people in history were, and using "great" in front of their names wouldn't bother us nearly as much as using it in front of someone as insignificant in the history of mankind as Nugent is. "Great" people are usually well known while they lived, and LONG after they have died. Nugent will be forgotten as soon as he is put under if not before, that I could assure you. -

Well, let just hope your teacher is sympathetic to gun ownership and hunting then. If some of us hunters and shooters jump all over you about calling Nugent great, don't be surprised if your teacher takes issue with it also. We are just warning you here, that's all. -
I very much agree with this, Doe. The two are intermixed too often and I don't think that is a good thing. I think the hunters point of view can go a lot further with non-hunters when we don't bring the gun issues into it. The way I see it, both sides of the gun control battle go to extreems from time to time. Look at what happened in Arizona as an example, the instant it happened the other side starting yelling for more controls and questioning how a lunatic got a gun...he wasn't diagnosed before hand so who really knew he was crazy besides his school? I fully understand the fighting back from the pro-gun groups when this happens but maybe if it is dialed back a bit we could gain more supporters. Again, I very much agree with you. Try telling this to the hardcore NRA followers. They will no doubt accuse us of being antis.

Here you go fellas, here is your GREAT spokesman in action. He is putting out a mighty fine image for us hunters and shooter with antics like this, don't you think? Society has every reason to consider ALL hunters and shooters fine, upstanding citizens after their beloved spokesperson has such a tirade! Ted Nugent goes OFF on Obama in California
-
Great topic, thanks for starting the thread, muzzy. I think the person definitely needs to be someone whose livelihood isn't a direct result from hunting and shooting only. So someone who solely works for the NRA or is a writer in a shooting or hunting magazine wouldn't be the person we want. A celebrity or other well known figure whose hobby is hunting and shooting would be a better bet. Nugent I guess could be considered a celebrity, but he is surely NOT the type of celebrity I would want to see. Someone like a Tom Selleck would surely be accepted sooner than a Nugent. Sure, the anti gun and anti hunting media would mock most anyone who would be vocal in supporting shooting and hunting, but that does not mean we should put an unkept, trash talking looney up there as our spokesperson and think that it will somehow benefit us and make people accept us with any real seriousness.

You can then enlighten us if you wish. I must warn you that it will be at your own risk. A good many here have little use for the guy and feel that he is exactly the WRONG person to represent gun owners and hunters. Me included. Hey steve... not to stomp you your post, because Ted is a controversial individual - but a GREAT thread to start might be: "WHO do you think should be the 'poster child' to represent gun owners and hunters?" I honestly don't know who the best person would be. I haven't seen any in the hunting and shooting world of late who would fit that bill. However, I surely won't be giving that title to Nugent by default because no one else is stepping it up. If you want society to accept hunters and shooters, you put someone who looks and talks half way human to represent us. Nugent on his best day looks like he either was let out of prison or a mental institution. If some hunters/shooters have such vibes about Nugent, I could only imagine what the non-hunting and shooting people think of him. -

The GREAT Ted Nugent?? I would drop your grade a whole letter, ie from B to C for simply saying that. And I'm not kidding here, either. If you put great in front of someone like Theodore Roosevelt, then maybe one couldn't argue, but Ted Nugent? No bloody way is he great in any shape or form! -
On second thought, that may not be Doc in that picture. I think Doc is in the one here where he is getting ready for next season with his crossbow.
-
LOL!! That's a good one!!!
-
Is that Doc or Bubba in that picture?

Has absolutely NOTHING to do with passion. I have enough common sense to know when enough is enough and simply come to a decision that hunting is no longer something I would be able to do. Sooner or later everyone faces their limitations in many facets of life. If I can't hunt, I will take up other hobbies that I CAN do. I will not burden others with my inabilities. Those who think they couldn't live without hunting obviously have not experienced much else. Lots of other things can be enjoyable as well.

Another pastime of mine happens to be hiking. It is something I can do with my wife and other family members who don't hunt. If and when I am not able to hike the trails any longer I will NOT be substituting an ATV for my feet and legs. Neither will it be used for hunting when I am no longer able to carry myself afield. So you can call my statement idiotic all you want. I will NOT put extra burdens or interfere with others just because I want to continue to hunt. If I can't walk I will stay home and take up other more sedate pastimes like knitting or needlepoint as should others who can't hack it any longer.

How is Gregg Ritz still in the hunting Industry?
steve863 replied to SplitG2's topic in General Chit Chat
How much can we really expect from the industry? They tried to blacklist a well known and experienced writer like Jim Zumbo for only having an opinion while others can get away with a lot worse. I have a hunch that the shady ones go the furthest in this industry. -
I will make exceptions for disabled people, but the people I see using ATV's are far from disabled. For most it's pure laziness and maybe the only disabilities they have is eating too many pork rinds and drinking too much soda or beer. True disabled people using ATV's are a very small minority and most of us will never come across them in the field.

I am quite lucky. Where I have hunted for the past 20 years I rarely if ever have had my hunting interrupted by others. I do however dislike 4 wheelers also. If one isn't able to walk, maybe they should then choose a different pastime in my opinion. I swear that there are people out there who prefer joy riding on those things during hunting season over actually hunting. Makes absolutely NO sense.

Yeah but there are guys that sit around the campfire, holding a beer that get so lit they start singing something unitelligable that might be KUMBAYA You might be right. I could see how someone in the sauce could mistake "Pass me another beer will ya" for something like "Kumbaya".

Highs and Lows From Your Archery Season
steve863 replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Bow Hunting
Yes, you surely deserve a lot of credit for giving the bow another try this year! It's also great to hear that my success made someone's day a better one! If I didn't bag that buck with a bow, I would have probably gone deerless for the first time in a good many years since I didn't even see a deer never mind shoot one during the regular gun season. Thank YOU, Doe! -
It's funny, but in all the years I have hunted I haven't come across too many hunters who are the type to sit around a campfire, holding hands and singing "Kumbaya". Why should it be any different on this forum? Just because we all might hunt don't mean we have to agree on everything and not debate issues. Without debate nothing is ever resolved in life.

DOING A CONTROVERSAL ESSAY FOR ENGLISH CLASS
steve863 replied to Robinson446's topic in General Chit Chat
If you want a good grade it's probably best to stay away from controversial subjects. If your teacher doesn't like guns or hunting you have a couple strikes against you before he even looks at your paper. -
They run around everywhere there. I don't think the park allows hunting, but I think on other parts of Fire island they might. I could see burying yourself with bow in hand as a good hunting tactic there. I think a deer would be stunned enough momentarily while you lift yourself out of the sand for you to get off a good shot at it! I can't imagine dragging one out thru the sand would be fun either. Luckily they don't grow too big in body size over on the Island.
