Isn't someone who doesn't have a doe tag supposed to determine the sex of the deer before they shoot in areas without AR's? What's the difference if they are looking for spike horns in comparison to 3 points to a side? Those who shoot indiscriminately will do it with or without AR's, you can be certain of that.

And when a slammer is shot by someone who respects someone right to shoot a dink if they so choose, it makes it even better! Congratulations to you!

Just as I have always said, hunting is just a horn game for you guys and not much else. I really feel sorry that you guys never discovered what hunting is really all about. If you haven't up to this point in your hunting careers, I'm afraid you never will. I have nothing more to say other than to offer my sympathies.

Yes, there is at least this one I know of. http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=015C&mid=534070 My uncle actually bought an in the box never fired used one in the high grade version. He has never fired it either. Teddy Roosevelt used a similar one in Africa. The problem I see with this one is that mounting a scope on it isn't exactly easy to do, since I don't think one gets the full benefits of a 30-06 without a scope. One would need to do some fancy gunsmithing to it which would probably bring down it's value.

Wow, that's quite a story! I can tell you that I've never been on a shopping line with a person like that. I'm always on the line where someone is pushing things into my stuff in hopes that the cashier rings it up with my things and I don't notice! LOL Seriously, there are some generous people in the world. Some don't get out much or can't go very far from home, so they try to be kind to anyone they might come across which is probably what happened to you.

That's fine, I will try not to in the future. As I said, I call it the way I see it. A few of you fellas have more than once brought up Ohio in other threads and how you thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and how you thought NYS should revert to Ohio's ways of hunting. When you then imply in this thread that landowners in Ohio are so willing to allow strangers to hunt on their land, I have a hard time not making a comment on it. Thanks for confirming what I figured from the start on having pre-arranged permission. I'd be willing to bet that any 100 members here could march into Ohio and maybe less than 10 if they are lucky would get permission to hunt from a total stranger. It is no different there than anywhere else, so I don't think anyone needs to sugar coat Ohio over anywhere else. That is my only point here. If you think I'm a jackass for making this point, so be it. I do call people out on many things here, but I at least don't go down to your level with the name calling.

Is this going too far, to control land and deer population?
steve863 replied to mossy725's topic in Deer Hunting
I honestly don't think the coyote problem will ever go away. They are here to stay in my opinion. You can do whatever you want to get rid of them on your land, but sooner or later they will come back, most especially if the land holds a good amount of deer. Even if the season was opened ALL year round only a token amount would be killed. In general not too many people hunt them or are really interested in hunting them. People have little enough time to even hunt deer, turkey, etc. these days, so it is highly unlikely they will be making trips out just to kill coyotes. -
Actually I'm a very positive person who enjoys simple pleasures, but I am also a realist and call things the way I see them. I congratulate you guys on your success, but I highly doubt you went into another state without any pre-arranged permission to hunt private land. If you did, please tell us your secret, because many of us don't have such luck in areas close to home, never mind another state. Good day.
-
That would be my guess also.
-
Gosh, Ohio must be the hunting heaven like some of you keep telling us! So, if someone goes to Ohio and knocks on some doors a day or two before the season starts asking for permission to hunt, Ohio landowners will gladly give it?? Knowing that Ohio has developed a reputation for trophy bucks, I really have a hard time believing that. I know someone suggested bringing blueberry pies along when asking for permission in another thread a while ago, but I somehow don't think even that would get you anywhere in a well-known trophy region anywhere in this nation!

I honestly think the majority of hunters couldn't hit anything passed 200 yards never mind 300, so the drop off you talk about for the 7mm-08 is really insignificant. For shooting deer within 250 yards like most people should be doing anyway, the 7mm-08 has more than enough punch. For the few who can handle 300 yard or more distances, the 30-06 probably wouldn't be the best choice out there either. 7mm, .300 mags would probably be a better choice for that kind of shooting.

will you take a deer of 2.5 years old or younger?
steve863 replied to skyzmine's topic in General Hunting
Yeah, I haven't know them to wait around either! And the few I did get a chance to ask just looked at me kind of funny and didn't seem to understand what I was asking. -
I didn't know we had mule deer in NY??
-
Looks like you had a better day than Carl Paladino on election day!

I would have to agree on the taste. Big deer or small deer, they can ALL be good. What makes the taste is game care and the cooking. The guys who say older deer taste like shoe leather probably can't cook worth a darn and would probably make the finest cut of beef taste bad also.

Of course it sells. So does real porn. A huge percentage of the internet is porn. Doesn't make it one bit beneficial to mankind, though!
-
This kind of stuff is what they call "horn porn". Those girls in porn movies aren't exactly all real either. From magazines that glorify only big antlered deer, to TV shows, and to the scores of DVD's one can buy, it has all polluted what hunting should be all about in my opinion. These days you have people hunting who care for little else other than the almighty "horns". Real sad in my opinion.
-
I also think I've seen the mug of that hunters somewhere before. I don't remember where, but these same internet hoaxes seem to turn up year after year.
-
Just don't get her pissed at you or you'll be in BIG trouble! Going up into your treestand to hide won't help you either. She'll just come over and shake the tree until you fall out of it! LOL
-
I have no way of proving it, but this one looks totally fake to me. It looks like a sloppy photoshop job. Notice his right arm behind the antler how it doesn't seem to line up.
-
No kidding! Do some girls really think a body like that will be attractive to guys? The only thing I find attractive is that she would be good to have around when it's time to drag one out! LOL She can drag it to the road, while I warm up the truck!
-
Unless she is this girl. This one can probably pull 100 lbs with one arm while she uses you to do curls with the other!
-
I don't know if I'd like to see where the deer population would go if NO doe were shot?? Heck, thousands of doe do get shot every year and yet deer numbers keep going up. I don't buy many of the stories that it was way better hunting in the 50's, 60's and 70's. I had relatives who hunted then and if they did get a deer it was a major event! These days just about anyone who puts in their time will get one or at least have a shot at one. So, no way was the hunting better then, than it is now. Many people fill several tags each year these days and yet there isn't any real shortage of deer in most places.

My feelings exactly!
