Great to hear from you again, Wooly! Rumors were flying that you went to the happy hunting grounds in the sky. Anyway, I don't think this place has been as happy to see anyone since Bubba came back for the seventh time!!!!
-
Nothing to do with positive or negative attitude. Plenty of BS and nonsense posted on this forum. A person would be more than stupid to believe it all. Thanks for clarifying and I'm glad he's OK.

Dream Land... New to the Area ...where would you purchase?

+100 on that one! Like all those treestands and trailcams that get stolen on private property, along with all the trespassing and feuding by neighbors. It ain't the city boys who are coming up to do all that on the weekends! -
Is this the truth, or just BS that you made up?
-
I had the same thought yesterday. One of the last posts he made was talking about hanging some more treestands the next day. That's the part that would worry me.

This is highly unusual, to say the least. Not what the typical landowner will be getting with their land purchase in NYS. And the more land you buy, the more you will be feeling it. -

I would think you'd pay at least $10-15K in taxes per year ANYWHERE in NYS for 200-300 acres. You could go to freakin Alaska or Africa every year for that kind of money with NO headaches of land ownership. I know what I'd do! LOL -

That was 200 acres of land with a cabin for $78,000??? I would consider that the steal of the century. -

Great points! 200-300 acres will cost him a good chunk of change no matter where he buys it. Lets not even talk about the taxes on this much land. Mineral right or NO mineral rights, it will be a good LONG time, if ever before he will get any returns on this investment other than hunting pleasures. That's why in general I think other than for the hunting pleasures, buying this much land is a poor investment of ones money. With fewer and fewer people farming and hunting, and more and more regulations being put on hunting who will be paying top dollar for empty woodlands that you can't build on in the future? It very well may become worthless. Buy at your own risk. -
Good luck, Bert! I'm counting on you to shoot straight this year. I'm not putting any money on it, however. Your journals from past years have taught me a thing or two. LOL

Hunting has become a very selfish game. I've been trying to make this point for a good while now.
-
Hard to believe, but some guys leave the woods and go back to cabins/houses or even drive to the nearest gas station to do their business. It's like they are afraid to drop their trousers away from a real toilet bowl. Either that or they are afraid that a chipmunk might get to see their bare ass. LOL
-
My favorite is the one where the hunter stands 50 yards behind his buck posing for a picture to make those antlers look bigger. LOL

I think it's a good thing that mentors are not allowed to carry weapons during this youth hunt. The most interesting part of this thread for me is how so many hunters DON'T know the rules, nor do they bother to read up on them. I bet scores of mentors have taken kids out hunting during this youth hunt and carried weapons themselves. Of course most will never get caught since DEC officers are rarer than mountain lions.

That would disqualify just about every member of this forum. The two that wouldn't fart in the bunk room, fart at the eating table, so that isn't much to look forward to either.
-
Hose never resist, but I know many hunters can't either. LOL
-
Yeah, do you think if these bucks strolled over to someone else's property, the other hunter would have worried about letting these bucks pass on their DNA?? No way. The guys killing these deer made the absolute correct decision to kill them when they saw them. Let them walk and you may never see them again.

Maybe it's none of my business, but was there any way to continue to keep this place in the family? Like you buying it, or paying the upkeep and taxes on it if your father couldn't? Some things should never get sold, only passed down to the next generation.

The picture posted above is only a tanker train. Any train wreck pictures posted here depicting the threads on this forum need to be of a passenger train with human bodies and parts scattered all around. Things around here usually end up a bloody mess after all! LOL

I know exactly where you are, Biz, I'll see you there on opening morning of the gun season! So nice of you to let me hunt with you guys!!

I reckon Papist is the J. Edgar Hoover of the HuntingNY forum. LOL

I must have missed that post, please direct me to it! LOL

I wouldn't disagree with you on this, but you have absolutely NO problem bashing any non-hunter or non-gun owner who may not exactly agree with your philosophy either. So what's the difference really? You automatically discount them as being stupid, naive and un-american, so how much does that elevate you above the caveman status? Not much. We know you well enough around here that it's either your way or the highway, so if you can't sit down and at least listen to other sides point of view, and have a civil discussion with them, then you are no better than anyone else I am sorry to say.

I would think the majority of college students go to college to get an education. Toting a gun is not on the top of their list of must things to do while on campus. Most don't have the mindset like some of you do here where a gun solves all the worlds problems. None of us will ever know if there was anyone carrying close to this incident. Even if there was, it obviously didn't help matters here.
