  1. Yea im hunting public land so leaving it up overnight isn't an option unfortunately.
  2. Thanks for all the input. I saw the Summit Goliath online for a good price so I dropped the hammer on it. 350 lb rating is overkill but I like the idea of having more room and stability than I need. Also it is surprisingly light at 21 lbs. Anyone else have the Goliath?
  3. Yep, 6'4' 270lbs. Would I be good with a stand rated at 300lbs or would I need to go even bigger with one rated at 325 or 350?
  4. Well its my first year hunting, was it good for a beginner? Aside from the noise was it safe and good quality construction? I would probably upgrade to summit too ... its just I am blowing thru a lot of money this year on getting all the gear I need for hunting and the CZ climber is priced pretty nicely.
  5. I am looking to pick up a climbing stand and I have been looking at the Comfort Zone Stealth Climber for $99. It has pretty good reviews aside the fact that it is heavy due to its steel construction. I don't mind the extra weight as I am a 270 lb guy I just want something sturdy and priced right. Does anyone have this stand and can let me know how they like it? What stands do you other guys use/recommend? Also what harness do you use and why? Are there any other safety equipment I should bring for stand hunting like extra cables and safety lines? Thanks.
  6. This applies to the DMP tags I got for Suffolk county too right? I can use the DMP's during Suffolk bow season b/c it is the regular season?
  7. Are some parking lots more frequented by non hunters? I would rather park somewhere less likely to have hikers, bikers etc. b/c I don't think they would want to see me dragging a dead deer back lol.
  8. How is the hunting at Otis pike? I picked Rocky point b/c I am in Nassau county and its closest but I would consider a longer drive if it means more success when hunting. Its just a pain to scout out east for me ya know?
  9. Are all of the parking spots good for hunters? Are there any I should stay away from either bad area or just packed with cars?
  10. So I am finishing up my last purchases for my first hunting season this year and just wanted to ask if anyone has tips for hunting rocky point and having some success for a complete newbie. Have done a lot of reading and research including mapping out potential areas. The parking permit I got online, do I just fill it out myself or do I need to take it in to some office to have them sign off of the parking pass? Do you guys find ground blinds or tree stands more comfortable? I haven't bought one yet, and I know it's late to be doing so but I am trying to get it together for this season. Most importantly how can I stay out of the way of other more experienced hunters. I know when I go fishing I hate new guys or weekend warriors screwing me up by setting up shop near me and crossing my line, making a ton of noise and basically ruining my day. I do not want to be one of those guys when it comes to hunting. How can a new guy like me get out there and keep out of the way of veterans without disturbing their spots by spooking the deer.
  11. I just want to get a feel for what you guys are pulling. I am stuck between a 60lb and 70lb bow and I don't know if theres a huge difference and if i should hold out for 70lb. Do you guys pull over 60lb?
  12. Both the ASAT and Predator suits look amazing, glad I viewed this thread b/c I am in the market for some camo
  13. How can you legally shoot in areas closer to houses? Is there a special permit required or something? I thought that 500 ft rule for rifles applied to bows too.
  14. Good idea. As for tree stand I was thinking of a self climbing stand so I could take it with me coming or going. Any thoughts? Do I need to worry about my car being vandalized by PETA geeks?
  15. i was also thinking of using camo tape over socks and pant area to seal it. Should i worry about ticks burrowing into crevaces in boots? I heard of using dryer cloths to help repel ticks but i will also use the permethrin since i dont have cats. I am also worried about tracking ticks into my car after the hunt....is there any way to shake em after everything is said and done?
  16. Doc I will be bowhunting and maybe shotgun hunting since i have availability to both. If i don't score with the bow maybe ill have better luck with the gun. I know that especially for bowhunting i need clothes that won't make noise and give away my position, i just wanted to hear from you guys with what works and what color camo you use primarily. Any tick blocking tips would be great because I do not want to get Lyme disease.
  17. The parking permit is the one you can print out and fill out from the dec website right?
  18. Most likely public land. I have no connections to hunt private land yet.
  19. Being new to hunting I am trying to get all the essentials ready for the upcoming season. I have a pretty good idea of gear but I could use some more direction in terms of appropriate clothing/camo for deer hunting suffolk. I plan to use treestands and ground blinds. How much in the way of clothing do i need for my first season? Pics of your setups or links to gear would be a big help. Thanks!
  20. Hello everyone. I am new to hunting and especially bowhunting. I finished my bowhunter ed class and I got some range time in and managed to group fairly well with a compound bow, now I am looking to buy my first bow. Any input/suggestions would be great, the pse stinger and bear encounter i have read to be good beginner bows but if there is something a bit more expensive that would be really worth it let me know. I would like to bowhunt in suffolk county this fall and i could use all the pointers you could give this noobie. I am located in central Nassau county so the shorter the drive the better haha. Thanks in advance!
