  1. After a slow and unproductive bow season, today more than made up for it.From 7am to noon, saw 8 does.No doe permit.3pm,This guy comes running by chasing a doe, despite grunts ,whistles,Both would not stop.I fired at the moving buck,15 yards,And hit his throat which severed his wind pipe.
  2. weather looks great for saturdays opener, sunny and 47.But the wind concerns me.7 to 10 mph with gust to 18 mph.
  3. Good luck to my fellow 3H comrades.Heading up this evening.Lets hope the locals havent thinned the herd too much.
  4. The weatherman says it's going to be sunny sat. and sun. ? You know what that means......Its going to POUR!!
  5. The rear leg of that ''coyote'' is much bigger than the front.Like its used to standing on its hind legs like a raccoon.picture 3,Are you near a river or lake,It could be an otter.
  6. lack of minerals in the soil make it a poor agricultural area, hence not a great area for big racks. The AR should help with that.Deer numbers are debatable.Burmjohn is seeing great numbers and I'm less than a mile away and seeing very little deer action so far.

    Elk in 3H

That was a year ago, nothing since then.
  8. was up today, depsite the 67 deg temp, had 4 does walk directly behind me this morning,Wasnt expecting them to come from that direction. They were very skittish. One caught my movement and they took off.saw one spike also.Tons of them back in town waving to me goodbye as I drove out.
  9. give them time, before you know it,we'll have coyotes on LI.hey their being caught in manhatten, which means they had to cross a bridge or tunnel to get there.
  10. My 5 ptr I shot last Nov. in Lake Huntington was filled with corn. That buck would have to travel pretty damn far to find a corn field near me.Sorry,I don't buy it.Some one is baiting up there.
  11. went out this morning,6:30 -12:00.saw 2 does.pretty warm, still a lot of leaves on the trees which made visibility poor.I noticed a ton of acorns dropping today.this must be a bumper crop year for acorns.they cover the floor of the woods.
  12. that does sound logical. But I've seen this before in past mid oct. hunts. The rut has not kicked in yet,So their not being chased around, weather still fairly warm, and no killing frost yet to kill the grass .Their in the open an hour before sunset,That should change in a few weeks.
  13. hunted 6:30am to 5:30 today in Lake Huntington. All my usual spots. In a word dead.I saw a total of 1 deer and that was at sunset.Drove through town and there they where, dozens of them in the open fields.I guess their hanging near the fringe all day because there not deep in the woods.I've experienced this in mid October before.
  14. Does any one know if C&B archery in hicksville is open on the 16th?.being that its opening day upstate, perhaps there closed.Gotta get a few arrows.
  15. She screamed because she didnt know what was more alarming, the bear outside the house or you running around in you underwear!
  16. people who run when confronted are not innocent,Ive learned this from 20 years of law inforcement experience.
  17. Geno, the Polish season doesnt open till November 1st.........only kidding guys..no hate mail ,please.
  18. after calling the police,I would have waited until their arrival to confront them. Why risk your safety.Plate, make and model comes first before a confrontation.
  19. Im using a Hoyt legacy, gotta be almost 20 years old now.Restring it every few years and im using aluminum arrows. Its like an old worn out bath robe, you know you need a new one,But this ones to confortable to throw out.I consistently kill deer and bear every year, why spend a grand on a new bow.

    Elk in 3H

A friend of mine who has property next to mine in lake Huntington, said that while driving one night on 97 ,where it intersects with 116,A cow elk ran accross the road from the directions of the river and into the woods. As there are Elk in north central PA,this might not be so improbable. He swears that it was not a large doe,But a cow Elk.Any one in the area ever have such a sighting?

    Go away Wind

cbx,I use the bug suit from cabelas under my camo.ticks can't penetrate it.When i get home,I put all the camo in a freezer and let it sit for a few days that kills them.
  22. Bumped up is an understatement,Im thinking of putting shock absorbers under the hull.Great fishing boat,Love the squared off casting platform up front.
  23. JW,same here.Live in Huntington Village,Hunt western Sullivan County and fish the north shore.I think Im the only one up here with a Carolina Skiff.
  24. Holy crap, that article says each female tick lays 2000 eggs in the spring.Due the math,no wonder Suffolk County is out of control.
  25. Slowhand,The east end of the Island has been well known for its potato farms for decades.Farming is still a way of life for many.Over the decades, civilization has crept from west to east. However, the deer population has moved in the opposite direction and they are now showing up in Nassau county. There are several thousand acres of state land managed by the DEC open to hunting, but most is done on private.Hunting pressure is high and yes,the ticks are out of control on the east end. However, pound for pound,LI has produced some of the biggest bucks year after year in NYS.You can hunt deer here for 4 months out of the year,3 for the bow season and 1 for a shotgun season.
