My father used to bring his deer to a butcher when he didn't have a place to cut it up. It amazed me when he got back into butchering it himself how much bigger the back straps where when we cut them up. I bet those butchers never have to buy meet during the year. I know people who have cows and get them butchered and the tenderlions are always tiny. Don't understand how people can rip people off and sleep at night.

If you want something that is tuff and durable go with a carhartt flannel lined pants. They are rugged, warm and comfortable. They come in all colors from brown if you want it to green or blue. You can stick long underwear under them for those colder days if need be. I wear them all hunting season and bring them right along to rabbit season. Love them and they fit your bill, they run around 40-50 bucks.

new york fish and game is good magazine. In the back they still have all the fur prices for trappers and have some good articles on hunting. One of the magazines I would get if I subscribed t mags.

They still do that out in albany too Meadow brook farms will still deliver milk to your door step. I grew up with a buddy that owned a dairy farm and right straight from the cow is the best.

DMPs are valid during all Southern Zone seasons, the Northern Zone regular and late muzzleloading season, and in all Westchester and Suffolk County seasons. Steve you are right, I thought i read it different last year. The DMP's are good in any season in southern zone only that is what I must have read and got fumbled up. :-[

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
biggamefish replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
When it comes down to it nobody should be able to tell the next guy what he can or can't shoot. If you don't want to shoot small deer than don't. I have been reading this on and off and I know I missed a few posts here and there but I do have to say I would hate to see people shooting deer because they see horns then going up to them finding out that it was too small and just letting it go to waste. I don't know how often this would happen but I am sure it would in same cases.- 1885 replies

Hry I would try to stay with the same grian broad head that you are using. Ex if you are using a 100grain mech broadhead go with a 100 grain fixed. I think you will have the most success with that.

If that is a real pic from new york then someone should contact dec about it. THey are really trying to keep pigs out of ny. I think it is only a matter of time before we can't controll them in ny though. ALthough the bacon is suppose to be good and an all around hunting season for them would be fun.

Deer shot illegally at Hortonville Cemetery with a crossbow
biggamefish replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
Lets see crossbows aren't illegal to own they are illegal to hunt with. So I guess if you are a poacher you could use one right now, right?? If you are going to be illegal might as well go all the way. People give people a bad name it isn't a bow, gun or crossbow that does it. -
VJP, Can I pick up the blue book at a regular book store or gun store?

Where do you hail from Big john? Good luck on the small game.

Midday hunts are the way to go. I have taken my biggest deer during that time. I think the times to sit is from 845 till 1 or 2. You might not see alot of deer but you do tend to see the bigger ones.

Just going through the old posts, i know if you take a deer and it is gone like this you can call DEC and get a new tag. I have friends that have done it. It is a hassel but worth it if you had to tag it. Looks nasty I would have done the same thing.

Hey thanks for the info. I have a buddy that was asking about a browning that his grandfather had. He didn't know much about the gun other than it is in great condition and from the early 1900's. I told him I wanted to see pic so I could drool.
