  1. Couple of pairs of eyes so far, camera appeared to be being triggered by a sapling right in front of it which has since been removed with extreme prejuidice, so I had 250+ pictures of empty field. But that was only 2 nights worth, I'll pull the card again this saturday and see how it worked.
  2. Got a WGI D8 for 170$ with metal security bracket, 2gb SD card, and 4 D cell batteries. Also it has a 20$ mail in rebate, so it'll only cost me 150 with all that stuff, and chasingame gave it a solid review. Pumped, time to put this girl on my food plot!
  3. Speaking of mast, I got pelted by acorns from red oaks this past weekend unloading hay. I see alot of apples starting to ripen all around too.
  4. Dick's has a WGI X6C for 150, and IR3C for 80, I'm a little torn right now. X6C got really good reviews, looks like a high quality peice of equipment.
  5. Oh I can't wait to watch that video when I get home! I don't think it will download here at work, that's impressive though! Appreciate all the input guys, I'll probably wait until the first week of October to request the time off.
  6. Well if they're anything like hunting stands, I'll wind up in double digits. Also, I took that one back to wally on my way to work this morning. It was 5 mp sentry, and got a pretty bad review from chasing game. That was the only reason I bought the first one I saw at wally, was because I knew I could take it back with no hassle whatsoever. I'll see if they have anything decent at Dick's, if not I'll use my Cabelas' card. Do most cams not accept anything larger than a 1gb sd card?
  7. Porky-Pine, in my opinion. Tale isn't long enough to be a beaver. Though I hear up in canada they have crazy big beavers (bachelor party this weekend :-* ).
  8. I bought a bushnell trophy cam at wally-mart for real cheap. Evidently the SD card I bought is too much for it at 4gb, so I gotta go exchange it. PITA.
  9. Did anyone else see that article in Field and Stream about the lawsuit against Scentlok? It really made me shake my head. Did you honestly believe it would eliminate all of your human odor? Class action lawsuit is a bit much, but at least it's getting some publicity to people who believe it helps a great deal. The interesting part though to me was that an expert, whom I guess was employed by Scentlok, stated under oath that that it was "Not Very Effective" in eliminating BO/microbial smell that the deer actually smell.
  10. I'm with Doc on this one, add various forms of white-tail calling to the mix too. You get the instructional DVD's with your calls usually, and those are ok but each instructor has his own personal taste for those things. The thing is they have to find sponsors to get these shows up and running. You do occasionally see a good show with the actual stand setup + scouting, but they're few and far in between. Most of them are the Jeff Foxworthy, bone collector, pre-canned "here go sit in this stand and don't shoot anything under 180+" B.S. That crap will fly down in Texas but not up here.
  11. I shoot 65# draw, '08 Bowtech Commander, with Rage 2 Blades. Even with the rage mechanical where they lose alot of kinetic energy on impact it still broke the ribs on both sides. 65# feels light to me, some times the let off catches me by surprise. But after sitting in the cold for god knows how many hours, and being bent at the waist drawing I didn't even notice it. A little more weight might be nice on the draw so I feel the let-off a little more, but I don't want to change my setup at all!
  12. For those really really cold days (we had a couple last year around here) I have a pair of Irish Setter Snow Claw XT's, 2000g Thinsulate. Lace em nice and loose and throw a grabber toe - warmer in there, spent both those really cold days facing the northwest wind on the side of the hill, 5 hour stints in the stand On the subject of this though, my lighter pair of boots for 20 degree + weather are worn out, anybody have any suggestions? Think late October to mid November'ish.....
  13. Oh I concur, if you had to choose one I'd have to say proper diet is the way to go. I'd also concur when I see idiots at the gym doing 8 reps of their max weight, talking to another idiot for 5 minutes, doing a few more and then switching machines. I'm a big fan of circuit training with free weights, with limited recovery time between sets. I usually do 3 exercises no one for the same exact muscle group, 5 reps, 5 sets with one minute of recovery time between each one. Then do a different exercise for each of the 3 same muscle groups as the first group. As far as weight goes..... I haven't seen my target weight since the last time I was out of work and had about 1200 calories a day while jogging minimum 3 miles. I carry a little spare tire around my waste , in case of famine ! The rest is dense muscle, just ask my 5 buddies that tried to jump me and throw me in the river at our last camp party. Poor girly men.
  14. I'm for it. I personally don't shoot anything smaller than a solid 8 point for my buck tag. Let em get big please! Hopefully it will make for less wounded deer because people will have to take their time to see what they're shooting at.
  15. Well the way I see it is if I take that first week, and only work monday, tuesday, and wednesday of the next week (if the weather turns awesome I might just be become terribly sick), I work max 3 out of those prime 14. Thanks for you input fellas!
  16. I'm a very firm believer in over-all physical fitness being much more important than what the scale says. And I think weight training when done right is still best thing for your over-all health. I could make a 5 page post on the "right way" to lift, and favorite routines for over-all fitness. But I don't think anybody will ready it As a general rule of thumb though, for decent fitness you should be exercising minimum one hour a day 4 times a week. And the exercise should be making you sweat pretty hard.
  17. Of course I do all my planning based on predictions! On a totally un-related topic, did you know the end of the world is next year? I heard that somewhere. Free Punch at my place that day! It might taste a little bitter though. On a more serious note, when one is planning to take an entire week off from work, and not just come down with deer flu, best guesses are nice. I'll probably take Nov 1 through Nov 7, then since the 11th is a legal holiday take that friday too and make a 4 dayer of the next weekend. I have less time off than usual this year due to honeymoon, else I would not be working at all during last month of October through thanksgiving.
  18. Howdy! I hear partridge run is decent, never hunted there myself. It's more down in the valley outside of Renslearville. Our land is on the west side of the Renslearville State Forest, so I can personally attest to that whole forest being more or less deserted after the opening weekend. Theres usually one camp of guys parked at the end of the CCC road, but maybe 1 or 2 after opening weekend, and last year they didn't even camp. Not really good rifle territory though, those woods are dense, more shotgun than anything.
  19. What do I need to get a start on doing a Trail Cam? I'd like to get into it more heavily next year, with this year as a trial run. Does anybody have a recommendation as to what model & various accessories I'll need to get pictures off of it without removing the camera, and load it onto my computer. I'm very tech savvy so, I'd like to keep the price in the area of 100 to 120 bucks......
  20. I can't tell you boys how nice it is to ask a question and have it thoroughly answered, gracias!
  21. 4H, We own about 1000 acres on the west side of the Renslearville state forest. Lotta trespassers during gun! Can't beat the views & secludedness of it though!
  22. Now I remember last year, browsing the old forums, there were formulas kicking around for when the pre-rut & rut would kick in. I think it was something like the first full moon, or the second full moon after the fall equinox? I'm asking because, I have to put in for the time off from work soon and I'd like to try and time it right! I hunt the foothills of the catskills which is right on the border 4g/4h. I was tentatively planning on the week of the 8 through the 12th, and then weather pending grabbing a day or two off to make 3 day/4 day weekends of it.
  23. Thanks! And I don't hunt the Renslearville State Forest, we have about 1000 Acres of play room on the other side of the forest. We do have alot of people who come right across onto our land though! That's why I am now addicted to bow.
  24. I have the guilty pleasure of enjoying a smoke during hunting season in my regular clothes, then I spray down with scent away and some whipes when I get to the farm. I have some "natural mint + baking soda" mouth wash I use from I think Scent-Away. I like the peroxide idea though. For the record I don't think I got busted at all last year by scent during bow, and I had a 6 and some doe standing down wind of me for over 20 minutes without batting an ear.
  25. The old site just kind of closed...... haven't googled it in months. Good to have something else to read at work again ! Not going to be as intense a year as I'd like it this year due to impending nuptials and potential house buying, but I'll still be taking 2 weeks off for bow.
