WI Tall Tine Tubers plot 3 weeks in
UpStateRedNeck replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Anybody whose planted Turnips before know approximately when the critters will start hitting them? I took my cam off this plot simply because it's empty for the time being. -
I think the camera is having trouble catching them now that the grass is so tall. Or maybe they're hitting the freshly mowed fields which are growing fresh green shoots? There's a good amount of oats in this plot, lots of clover too.

Small Kill Plot Advice

Put 8 5 gallon buckets of pond water in it. Did a pretty good job, next year I'll fill it all the way up in May. Might have to use the tractor to haul it when it's 900 lbs though, grizzly had to work for it. -

To make a long story short: Got a 330$ steel roller for 200$ because TSC screwed up and gave me a bad poly one that should have been sent back to the manufacturer. So, pretty pleased currently. -

Follow up question : How do you fill it up in the field? Or do you fill it up someplace nearby? will a poly one hold up to going over rocks well? I imagine only need about 100 lbs of water in one to do a good job rolling some seed in, right? -

I may just go on a quest for a steel or poly lawn roller today, thanks very much guys! I could use a lawn roller for my 3 acre lawn too. -
Easiest way is to upload it to youtube and post a link here. That's super cool G-Man, I love owls. And they love to mess with me.

Cultipacker is the next thing. 5 or 6 footer for the quad would be ideal, that way next year I can do some plantings on the logging trails after they log my hillside this year. -

Fertilized and disced the 30x60 plot today, right before the rain hit. Looks like a garden bed! First pic is today, second pic is after the first discing. I'm pretty pumped about this spot! Winter Peas Plus and Ravish Radishes, with some Fall Rye for cover going in first thing Saturday morning! -
Great buck!

Looks like a nice solid round of rain coming up on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday next week, gotta get in the last 2 plots on August 1st sharp! Better go out Wednesday afternoon and fertilize both the last plots to prep for Saturday. WI Ravish Radishes + Winter Peas Plus + I'll stop at the feed store and get some Rye, mix that up and throw it on the kill plot we made tucked in the back. Probably just put rye on the other acre I tilled up Sunday. Hopefully everything tilled, planted and germinating by the 3rd or 4th day of August! -
Fuel Filter Kit for MF-65 Diesel
UpStateRedNeck replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Well, reasonable success with the new seals. It's leaking, but really slowly. Thinking it's time to replace the primary and secondary field filters with 1 spin on. At least we got the last 2 plots tilled, shouldn't need it until firewood time. -
I'm enjoying watching them develop, never had any in camera so consistently before.

Couldn't get a hold of her today, but everybody has hay down so I'm sure they were swamped. -

This frigging tractor. 2 different cartridge filters and neither of em fit. Got some Cork and permatex to make new gaskets for the old one, it's setting til Sunday. -
I heard that last part. Need to find something like what you just described!

Nice roller Wolc! I need me one of those.

Fuel Filter Kit for MF-65 Diesel

Called them, they were real helpful but didn't have any spin-on conversion kits. Pretty sure it's not a thing. Sheila was nice and sent me the full parts diagram for the assembly though, now I need to call NAPA and see if they have these cartridges and if the O-rings are included. -

Near Smallbany. I'm a nerd, not a mechanic, think it's worth the 75$ for a road call from my mechanic to do this? Seems like an easy way to screw up the tractor with air in the lines. Is yours a diesel too? -
My old diesel tractor has a primary fuel filter that's leaking. #4 in the diagram below. Does anybody know if they sell conversion kits to upgrade these filters to a spin-on? I've been doing a fair amount of googling on the subject and all I'm finding are oil filter kits. I don't think this is it : https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Massey-Ferguson-65_Fuel-Filter-Assembly-Single_1446017M91.html The glass bowl filter is on the other side (right side) of the tractor right after the shut-off valve, then it goes to the primary. Otherwise I think I have to order a couple of these : https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Massey-Ferguson-65_Fuel-Filter_1850450M2.html Any help or googling advice is appreciated.

I like that hemp rope idea, never seen that before. I ordered radishes and winter peas, going to disk it and fertilize next weekend, then plant August 1st. Between the dozen apple trees close by and the plot tucked way in the back surrounded by thick crud, let's hope it's a good October stand. Cleared out around the big Ash I'm going to throw the ladder in while I was thinning the canopy for the apples close by.
