I'll quote myself and say " full moon " wonks them out I've also heard barometric pressure but I've never actually looked at it during turkey season The full moon according to all my lull of success is a testimony
-
um ya, no thanks. Private land or not. I'm not taking a chance of catching a load of copper plated 6's. I won't even use a jake or strutting tom decoy. It only takes one idiot in the woods to shoot someone else. And we all know there's a lot of idiots in the woods sadly
-
That's what it's all about and a good game of chess
-
Betcha a cup of Tim Hortons's coffee it only gets better. BTW, could it really get worse ? I keep saying full moon screws up the birds . Full moon mid season. beginning, ending of month always whacks them wonky and tight lipped. You guys/gals just wait, it'll get better !

Birds won't rip a whole bunch if it's raining. They can't hear as well and don't want to give up there location to predators. Field mode to fluff out and rely and seeing their foe versus hearing them. My opinion , take whatever has the fields
-
I'm packing up stakes and headed towards creek . They need water and that's where I booted them other morning. Nothing happening in fields up top.
-
I'm 25 yards into the woods , DSD upright hen at fields edge Sometimes gives you the extra few seconds you need as bird is distracted and you can drop the hammer on him.
-
Hairy woodpeckers, yellow shafted flickers , robins, wood thrushes, blue jays, crows, raven , nuthatches, cardinals , woods sparrows yup Turkeys ... Nope Can't get anyone fired up but at least the fog has lifted
-
Well done

IMO Sleeping in would be waste of the morning. I'm listening to the woods wake up. Not my neighbor leaving for work , hearing the paperboy, etc
-
Holy fog Batman. Can't see decoy at 25 yards.
-
Hour drive thru hills and thick fog sucked. Missed crucial turn, had to put gps on. Made this drive hundreds of times. Check Found new hole in boot in trout stream ... Cold. Check Stick to eye , check Sweated my butt off mile up mountain , check Wouldn't give this up for the world, priceless Birds ripping on other mountain, nothing close yet.

Do turkeys peck holes in the ground?
turkeyfeathers replied to NYhuntingdogs's topic in Turkey Hunting
Don't think this is turkey sign. Have no idea what you found though. The feather was probably there in coincidence of the rusty shotgun hull. -

I've called in 8 jakes together years back. Brother called in 7 opening day and 6 of them again yesterday. Only called in 3 longbeards at one time. Last year on opening day, 1 went home with me. Birds will definitely flock up in winter but normally should have split by now. Flocks nor singles are interested in gobbling right now unless you sit very near the roost and they pitch into your lap making for a call, maybe two and the hunt is over. The best of the season , at the end is yet to come. More foliage , more workable responses from the toms. Enjoy the gobbles, enjoy the woods, feel happy you've got so many birds to work with. One of their "time" will come. Until then , just enjoy every morning.

I don't wear tinfoil hats or think anyone is out to get me but recently learned on tv that everywhere you are is tracked by your phone . They showed on hosts phone exactly where he lived, google image his house, where he frequents etc. Droid phones are the same but I only know to enable the Iphone Here goes: Settings Scroll down to Privacy Location services (on is ok for apps needing them, FB, Weather, Maps , Compass, Camera etc) Hit Location Services and scroll down apps that use Location Services down to System Services Hit System Services and scroll down to Frequent Locations (mine is right after Wi-Fi Networking in the drop down ). It should or probably say on. First delete Frequent Location history and then swipe to off. Mess around and see where you've been before deleting history.

Breast it out, marinate over night in Orange juice, Italian dressing and some crushed red pepper. Wrap in bacon ( tooth picked ). Onto the smoker. Devine !

Blind Squirrel Finds Nut..................

" Love it when a plan comes together "( Quote from The A Team) Nice bird. I'm telling you guys the full moon whacks out birds. -
I can see your point but have to slightly disagree regardless of your forum name. Coon hunters don't have as much freedom to roam where they want say 20 years ago when trespassing wasn't as faux pas and frowned upon and less was actually posted Fur prices down right suck , not as many " coon hounds " as fur prices suck and try and find some .22 ammo for dispatch. And fur prices suck. IMO for what it's worth.

9h opening day 3-5 jakes I presume touched off, booted 2 adult birds off roost on way in , 3-4 more on other mountain 2nd day multiple gobbles on other mountain Today few jake gobbles, adults on other mountain , had one going and booted two on way out Tons of coyote tracks while deer hunting and fisher tracks. My bird numbers seem to be intact. And I'm done nothing to reduce those numbers in last 3 days lol. Have to agree on number of coon. I see at least 3 every hour drive out there. Nobody is trapping or hunting them for $3-5 per pelt.

Just got back to car. Birds ripped on roost followed by silence. 8:15 I had a hen cutting 100 yards away and a gobbler fired up 250 out. She was between us. I tried soft calling her in so he'd follow up this hill. Both went silent Upon last 100 yards out of woods I put up two toms and a hen to wing not more than 20 yards away. I was crossing creek they flew over. Go figure, never saw birds there. Guessing they were there for water. They only flew 200 yards but daughter has ballet competition soon. Have only heard one distant shot in 3 days.

Well done. Both nice birds I concur , I tipped one over opening day last year and then skipped 2.5 weeks. Like the variety of how the woods change. But now you get to sleep in and we're still getting up at the butt crack of dawn to get our first bird : )
