  1. Yes, the plastic wadding is supposed to stay attatched to slug. I contacted Lightfield after finding the 2nd one still locked on. They told me its to help flight control and accuracy
  2. Nothing like a good game of chess. Hopefully you get to shout " checkmate "
  3. Leave a note on his stand and don't hunt in vicinity until corn is gone
  4. Love pics reflecting off the water like that. My dad took one like that years ago which you can flip upside down and barely tell you've flipped it. Great fall colors in this one. IMO you should print and frame this one.
  5. Get Sawyers Permithirine and spray your clothes . Deet is NOT a great repellant for ticks, mosquitos yes.
  6. Why no antibiotics if the head was burrowed ? I'd have her see or call her primary doctor about that IMO
  7. Pssst, I've seen some odd places to put a treestand but this one wins with that view
  8. As I start singing " Do you want to build a snowman ?" ( That's the main song from the movie my daughter won't stop singing)
  9. Love me them owls ! Especially the screech whinny
  10. Assuming you're going to hunt with a clean cold barrel. Between each shot at range pull breech plug and stuff some damp patches with ram rod until you get no residue on patch. Be careful with mounting optics and having full clearance of getting your thumb on the hammer with gloves under your scope. I should have used a higher mount but usually hunt without gloves so I can get away with it easier. Don't assume one brand of 250 grain sabots will be spot on if sighted in with another brand of 250 grain sabots. I just switched brands and 18 " difference at 50 yards. Lots of work had to be done to dial it in. You can load ML with powder and sabot without primer and have in vehicle. It's not "loaded " until primer is put in. On that note: after season do not leave in powder and sabot in gun. Made that mistake too. Lots of elbow grease was needed to clean out around breach area of barrel . I love my smokepole. Probably going to see more woods than my slug guns this year during shotgun season. I don't own one but brother has a scope with ballistic range markings on it. He loves it. Funny but true, good luck at seeing reaction on deer after you pull the trigger. POOF ! Big cloud of white smoke. I killed a nice 9 point first year I hunted with it (my best deer to date) .I touched it off and no idea if I hit it or not, nor which direction he may have gone. Well the snow showed it all.
  11. You did know this was going to happen didn't you !?
  12. ""Buckshot happens to be the most recommended round for a shotgun used for defensive purposes. Why is that if it isn't effective?"" In a nutshell : home defense is probably a 10 yarder tops and "men" are not as tough as a deer. and a shot at deer is 50-75 yards
  13. That sucks ! I'm so sorry. Been there too. Came home from spring turkey hunting one day to find basement flooded. Serv pro came in, unfinished the finished basement. Few days later I noticed they unplugged chest freezer. Lost a turkey and about 3 deer. Owner of company said how can I make this right ? I said you can't , those critters are off this planet and a complete waste to have taken their lives. Sucked not having venison until fall No alarm on ours but I check light every day as religiously as changing my skivvies Sucks, sorry it happened to you.
  14. Put my Winchester 1300 (shoot blue 2.75") with rifled barrel and Aimpoint 9000 and Remington 870 (shoot black 3") cantilever and Bushnell scope on paper the other day just to make sure they're on. Both 2.5 " high at 50 yards which makes them perfect at 125. Fired 2 from each gun off of rest , all touching. Out of pump guns these things rattled my teeth but managed not to crescent moon myself with the scope (not that I've ever done that ) Been shooting these for a number of years now. Love the energy they dump. 2 consecutive years I found the slug under the skin and opposite shoulder of 2 does . One doe was a mere 10 yards with the black 3 " version. Feet collapsed right under her. Not sure why people whine about no exit for tracking. Goodness, there's no tracking involved if you make a decent shot. My ML needed some work. Shooting new loads this year. Now that took some time to dial in. New loads were about 15 " high right at 50 yards than old loads. FYI on the Lightfields. Dicks nor Gander had them. Had to grab them from Cabela's. They changed the boxes too so don't overlook them if you're going to buy some. Anyone ever shoot their 3.5 " slugs. My shoulder hurts just thinking about it. November 15th can't get here quick enough!
  15. I've heard trees talk in HS after hitting some really kind bud while camping in ASP
  16. You ever shoot a 500 ? Go to Gander Mtn or any gun shop and look at all the traded in ones. That thing is far from being fun to shoot. Too many thought they could tame this beast. Overkill IMO And look for the video of the guy who had his thumb near the cylinder when he touched off a round. Gasses melted the tip of his thumb off. Dumb arse !
  17. Same here. I walk in in the dark so no orange. If I shoot something I'll put on the orange hat and vest from my backpack. Otherwise the orange hat is hanging by my head while in stand
  18. shot it at 54 yards other day to make sure it was on and didn't get bumped in the safe. 2 touching holes 3/4" high. Love the red dot
  19. You shot Rue Paul!? Congrats on the deer . A couple of years ago during ML season I see a deer coming thru some low hanging branches, snow piles on its head. Nice doe I say, squeeze off the smoke pole. DRT Flip it over to field dress it. I shout out " this doe has balls !" lol Dang buck lost his horns already.
  20. Thought it was me not understanding it either
  21. Yes, be careful when in contact with it. I've finally learned to shine my flashlight at base of my turkey tree(s) before sitting down in the dark
