    Put in over 5 miles in the wet snow earlier. Found a lot of places the deer had been. Back home now with son in the tower out back. 6 sets tracks across front lawn and 3 in back lawn from last night. The majority headed into the woods out back so that's good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Yup, so he heads back to house. I ease down to other side prop to check for sign. Yup walk into two bedded lol right farther down the creek. I think it was the doe button combo again. I coulda leveled her. It woulda been a tough freehand for him at 80 yards though. They were lightly bumped and went out towards houses.     Your already braver than me. Old abandoned houses especially with hidden spaces and crawls freak me the heck out! I'd never see a deer as I'd be watching my back from little creepy dead kids the whole time! I don't even watch trailers from those movies.     38 calm and a touch of fog. Been in the tower for a couple hours now. I sure wish a deer would come down this creekbed for the little guy! Been busted last two afternoons here coming in or leaving. There was a big set cutting across the back yard and then returning that were very fresh.     Way to go Eddie!! Got out of work late so the son and I just went for a walk out back. Go past tower and out by another stand and back up to a tree to watch for 30 minutes. Well legal ends and we take two steps and coming just over the knoll in front of us 60 yards a deer is coming in and busts us! Rrrrr coulda probably got a shot at it outa tower before legal ended but I decided not to climb up there with such a short window. It was a good size deer all alone.     So in my opinion here in central NY the rut was pretty much just getting into gear when opening day then this storm hit. The pressure from opener obviously puts them more nocturnal to the extent their hormones allow. My question is what does 20-30 inches of snow do? I know they are not running all over. So if some does where hot and are now out with this 2+day blizzard do you think there will be an actual obvious second rut? Any input? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Out for a couple hours before work. Man the deep snow is a warming walk! Cold 30 and barely wind. Looks like a buck found my trail breaking useful and followed my trail half way in.     I check my dog every day. She has tested positive for lyme and has taken the treatments and preventive measures. I pulled two off my son in the past week, neither engorged. They need to be in you 36 hours or more from what the doc says. We check ourselves every time we come inside. Hate those frigginthings!

    i went out for a little walk around 7am out behind the house, i had a nice 26 inch layer of snow to walk through!! I started hitting tracks at the back edge of the yard. The deer were up last night when the snow died. I walked through to my far stand and cut 6-8 more sets. Eased back and spotted two coming out of the gully beside the house so I backed up and got some cover. They ended up coming up by me, never knew I was there. It was the little doe and the button again. Snow was half way up their bodies lol, If anyone shoots one of those it will be my son. He has history with them already and they work the tower area we hunt. I am not taking any opportunity away from him. We will get out later for a couple hours. Gonna be some deer shot over the next few days. It may be tough work but doable.

    I carry anywhere from 4 to 10. 4 with ML one in and 3 speedloaders. Rifle/shotgun 5 in the gun and usually 2-3 in pockets. Say I shoot a yote, then a buck then a doe then another doe.......i have like 7-9 tags in my pocket, a bear tag......

    Time for a little update on my bow season. My hours on stand during legal light was down a bit at 95.5 hours. I got out at least for a sit 35 days. I saw 12 bucks all 1.5 year olds and 17 flatheads of which not one over 60 pounds offered me a shot. That come to a buck sighting for every 8 hours on stand and any deer every 3.3 hours on stand. I would say the buck rate was fairly average but lacking in that I usually at least see an older buck or few. The overall rate was low, my doe population scares me right now. Multiple sightings were the same doe and button. I did take a young buck so that made the season successful. I also shared a lot of time crossbow hunting with my son which was awesome. I just wish we could have gotten him one. He has gun season yet.
