Yep, I leave em out and loosen up straps after season or otherwise your stand will sink into the tree and grow up and eventually the bottom will leave the ground. I have one I forgot and this is happening, I will try to correct that one in a couple weeks.

Good points for sure. I saw that Cabelas section too with the 50% voucher for the full size stock.

Thanks for all the replies. I was pretty sure the 20 was the way to go just wanted some input from someone who has gone the route so to speak. Like I said earlier when I was little we just dealt with the big guns. Pop handed me the double barrel 12 and I asked can I pull both, he says sure. Man I landed on my ass! Never did that again!! Still thinking of single shot just for the purpose of teaching the importance of the first shot. But I will need to check into the 500 that could grow with him. I can always just rule 1 shell in the gun for the beginning.

I have an 11 year old who next summer will be 12. He will be able to small game, pheasant and turkey hunt as well as duck I think. He is small for his size and I am trying to decide what to get him to start with. When I was little we shot guns to big for us due to not many alternatives or spare cash to do otherwise. I like the idea of the Rossi pair guns. They have youth sizes and combos of 22 - 410 and 223 - 20 g. So one gun could hold him till he grows bigger. My questions. Is 410 capable of taking a turkey or for that matter efficient with pheasant? I do not want to bust him up with a 20 if I do not have to. Any opinions on the Rossi? Or should I just get a single shot 22 and a single shot 20 in youth? Thanks

Agree I cold pack and no water needed. And if you do not let steamer decompress on it's' own and open the cover early juice will leak out of the jars leaving them with low liquid levels.

That's a dandy for sure! Congratz!

It depends on where I am hunting, what season and the ground noise conditions. Bow I am 95% up a tree. Gun opening 2 days up a tree. Rest of gun I will sit on watch in my close to home small spots because they are small and any still hunting would be done in short order and bust up any good future hunting. In the big woods I will sit first and last watch and still hunt or drive. Also on some days potato chip leaves or crunchy ice/snow there is no way you can still hunt

Way to go! I too have a dressing bag. It is a ziplock with knife, pen, zip ties, drag strap, and a couple zip lock bags for hearts. I started putting the knife in the waterproof ziplock to keep it dry some days my pack gets wet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

11/30 Met bro at 7 and went on for the buck. Well I determined first shot hit a sapling and looked like the second hit. I found a tiny mist in two spots no deer no beds. Spent next hour plus tracking deer never bedded and like 7 spots of blood. Pretty sure he grazed top of lower neck or just over shoulder by the signs of it. We certainly educated done deer! We went to check his gun it was dead on so operator error. Took evening off to go out and watch my Eagles win! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sat we hunted Tully it was rediculouscold 4 degrees! We sat for a bit then started driving. Going in to start one drive we put up 7! I saw. 5 no shot ops . We spent a couple hours trying to get those deer where we wanted! They won, there were tracks all over. Came home for night watch and I saw at least 3 and messed up shooting a small doe because she was small and I was trying to make sure she was not a. Uh button. I judge a lot better when more than one are out! My bro shot at a buck and when I got out to him at dark he was still in stand and directed me over to sheer he shot and I heard the deer move off. We pulled out and circled out to the house. We decided to let him sit till morn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
