It was really blowing here. The view just got a lot longer!

11/1 Wow 18 hours of travel yesterday! I was still up at 5:30 am to look out the window and see 25 mph winds and sideways rain!! Went back to bed in a hurry! pm 64 Wind was a bit better this evening but still never lightened up all together. Sat for 2 hours in the bottom hole stand and saw nothing. BIL was in my other hole stand and got zip as well. All three of us will be out in the morn.

Finally back in the stand! Got back from Germany last night and was bummed after looking at the weather. Got up this morn and 25 mph wind and sideways rain so instead of eating a day off went to work. Got in the stand for this evening a bit before 4 the wind is a lot less but still pretty warm. 10/25 am 37 Got down to the outer hole stand for a 2 hour morning sit. Was a nice calm, cold morning but did not see anything but squirrels and monks. Head to Germany tomorrow for work so no hunting for me until next Friday. Good luck out there!!

10/24 pm 39 Work is really messin me up!! Got stuck an hour past what I wanted so could not get into the hole. Snuck out back for 1.5 hours. I did walk up a little buck on way in and pretty sure I slipped around him without being busted. Got to the stand ready for action but all I got was wet again. Will see what the weather holds for the morning.

10/23 pm 40's Snuck out late and put a cam on that scrape. Sat in stand for an hour with a bit of rain on and off. At 5:30 I had a small buck slipping across about 80 yards out left to right. All the sudden he just bolts and zip gone. He was totally upwind of me and I doubt he saw my hand reaching for my binocs at that range. hmmmm Nothing else the rest of the watch.

10/23am 40 Sat out behind the house for 2 hours. Real nice morning but the deer did not agree! I came out the back way behind the neighbors looking for signs of scrapes and hit a couple in a usual spot. Had a huge print in one, need to get a cam on this. I have no big bucks on my other cam back here. I need to know!!

I am a hunter. If deer did not have meat on them I would not hunt them. I guess that would make me a meat hunter. I was raised to use every game animal/fish the best you can. As in you do not leave it laying in the woods! As others have posted their are many people out there on tough times that would certainly take a tagged deer to feed their families. Someone who does not do all they can to make that happen and leave it to rot well it may be legal but not someone I would want to associate with. Just because it is legal does not make it right. I also do not shoot the biggest doe out of a bunch. Did that once and I believe shooting the matriarch doe can screw up future deer patterns for a long time. I could also cook a 2.5 year old doe and a 2.5 year old buck tenderloin on the grill with minimal spices and such and I would bet no one could tell the difference in them. Now I have had .5 year olds, hey shit happens! And that is the best piece of meat walking around out there! Myself at this stage of my hunting career all fawns and 1.5 year old bucks get a pass. And maybe some 2.5s as well. That is my choice I have been through the get your first stage and the get a lot of anything stage. I have done both and enjoyed the heck out of it as anyone else should. I will say if I have no meat in the freezer and it is the last week 1.5 years old will get shot! Horns and tags eat like shit. Generalities just get you in trouble. I would not say a 1.5 year old buck is any dumber than a 12 point 5.5 year old buck following a hot doe! I like a big buck as much as the next guy but not my top goal. All this deer size, gender, age and success also is relative to where you hunt, how much you hunt and what your goals are. Everyone has their own situations and goals.

I aspire to be dedicated enough one day to hunt and shoot a deer with the recurve. That is a definite accomplishment, tell him congratz.

Sounds like you are having a lot of deer movement too!! I had to smile on your son adventure!! I think the longest my son made it the first few times was 30- 45 minutes!! Last year he made it about 2 hours in the blind and ate about 10 pounds of food!! I just stay as long as he wants like you are doing. We have seen deer together but I have not had a shot with him yet.

10/20 pm 57 Out back for 3 hours in my fave stand. Did not see anything. Did jump 2 on way on and 1 on way out. I am sleeping in tomorrow!! Pulled the cam last night out of the hole got some real interesting bucks. I am hoping to see one!

10/20 am 46 Down in the outer hole stand this morn. It was still windy out but stopped raining during the night. Around 8 I had a fawn appear in front of me outa nowhere? She must have been bedded close by. Then around 9:20 I see some movement in the thick stuff off one huge shooting lane. The doe starts working her way towards my lane then turns and walks right away to about 80 yards and then crosses. I am think well there goes that! She stops out there and the second, the fawn, is still munching away off the right side. After about 3 or 4 minutes she starts coming back off the left side of my lane and at 35 yards cuts broadside right into it and stops. I wait for her to look away and touch one off. It looks like a good hit and she takes off and I hear a gurgling. I lose her after about 35 yards and can not hear a crash due to the wind. I sit about 20 minutes and then get down to take a look and am not thrilled to find my arrow broke off and only about 6 inches of penetration! I follow the trail into the most miserable crap and green briar. That is why I call this spot the hole! I am getting decent blood but after 75 yards I have not found her. I am getting concerned so I back out and meet my brother and we go back to the trucks to lose gear and clothes. We get back on it at about 11am and 25 yards past last spot I was we find her. She died flat out. I hit a bit right and broke the leg bone right in half then info the rib cage into a lung and some liver. Got her to the truck a bit after 1pm home and cleaned up she dressed out 107 pounds. Woohoo meat in the freezer!!
