  1. I do not smoke whole cuts of venison it is too dry. I have done pork, beef, chicken, turkey(turkey legs are great), salmon, sausages....so many good things. Bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos. Great for making smoked sticks and smoked kielbasa and such out of venison though!
  2. boo I live on Pendergast about two miles from there. I hunt a lot out behind my house but I hit 3 Rivers to do some bow hunting occasionally. It gets hunted pretty hard. Also I get tired of the idiots in there. Last year in one trip on my way out I hauled two trash bags of garbage out that I picked up from target shooters. I also have had bullets whizzing past me from target shooters using no backstops.....hunters come in and climb in a tree 50 yards from me!!! I also used to hunt off the other end on private land towards the Bville side but lost access to most of that 2 years ago. You?
  3. Tecnu scrub is the best I have found to work for me. I really scrub up the spots with it 2 or 3 times a day and let dry good and then dab on a little pink calamine. Do not paste on the calamine it needs to dry out.I have tried everything from bleach, gas, lye soap....................I have had it bad.
  4. Have not noticed. I live just around the corner so I will have to see what is up. Sure does not need more waste fields.
  5. So many apples the branches are dragging on the ground! To bad all mine are dropped and eaten before bow even starts!
  6. I would not think the present old growth management of the Adirondacks could support many elk. I would love to have them but I would love more to see the Dacks managed properly first.
  7. I just got my son the Diamond Infinite Edge for his 11th birthday last week. My buddy who tests bows said it is the best bow out there with that kind of adjustment and comes with nice add ons like sight, quiver, rest and peep all come with it. I also got a killer deal on it
  8. Yum, I would on one I butchered. My uncle would eat it raw when we were butchering when I was a kid. When I grill it it only hits the grill for a minute a side as it is!!
  9. Wooly, thanks for sharing I love checking into your journal. One of these days I will find a shed!! You are certainly good at it!
  10. I too would like to see the 91 pound coyote! Biggest I have ever seen was low 60's and that was a big one. Most males I have seen or taken are in the 40 pound range and females a bit less. I do believe coyotes can take down a healthy adult deer. But I think that is very location specific and weather specific. If there is ample "easier food" they will not bother adult deer for the most part. I also believe in areas of plenty of other food sources they do not take many fawns either. My area specifically coyotes have plenty of food choices and most all my does have fawns and I see them right up to yearlings and beyond. Now up north a bit you get 2 months with 40 inches of snow on ground and no food sources and it is a different story. I have read studies also though that say up north a bear can kill a lot more fawns than a coyote could dream about.
  11. My lawn is natural! I hate yard work and mowing!! I have a huge lawn it tales me almost 2 hours on the Scag just to mow it and another hour to weed whack it. I got pretty dandelions, crab grass, clover, wild strawberries and a zillion other kinds of weeds in it. Heck you may even find some real grass there! I can not wait till it gets burned out and stops growing and the fall when the leaves fall to smother it!! I would rather be fishing, hunting or poking needles in my eyes than lawn work!! lol
  12. So 3 days ago I get woken up by a turkey gobbling in the back yard I get up look out the window and yup a nice tom all puffed up standing there. So yesterday I could not get out due to work and this morning I am on my way out of town for a week and could not. So again I was woke up by a hen calling and a tom gobbling. Bit later I am down getting kids fed and off to school and here a hen goes across the back lawn and then a tom. I know in a week when I get back I will be out back and will not hear or see a thing!
  13. I have been seeing mosquitos for two weeks now, picked up a couple ticks last week looking at some property up north but thankfully no black flies yet.
  14. I am a fan of the chisel tips, I switched over before last seson. Worked well for me.
  15. I got a Weber a few years back and to say the least I have been a happy camper. Grill year around here. I never shovel the driveway but always the Weber on the back porch!!
  16. I bought a poulan maybe 10 years ago for maybe 160 bucks, it is a 16 inch bar. For occasional use it has never let me down and always starts on just a couple pulls if not the first. Had to replace the pull cord once I think. Cut down 2 to 8 trees a year from pine to cherry 20 to 50 footers. It works. I cut a bit more now and wanted a saw to really cut, the poulan labored a bit on the big hard stuff. I now have a Echo for about 500 or 600 bucks. Man that thing can chew wood!! It all matters what you want and how much you use it, and how big you are cutting. To spend 500 bucks on a saw you may cut a tree every year or two probably does not make a ton of sense unless you got extra dough!
  17. Now I usually do apple juce or water flavored with mio. Or on real cold days a small thermos of coffee. I have not had a mountain dew in over a year.
  18. Well now that I try to find it I can not and do not have the time right now to go through game laws. I always thought it was law that you cannot waste meat off a game animal. You must make best effort to care for and make use of taken game. I know it was the way I was raised but I thought it was a law also. Maybe I am thinking of another state. hmmmm Age.....
  19. In NYS it is illegal to not use the deer meat so if they have the same law in LA they should fine the government body who did this. Idiots. Government makes less and less since. Me I am just waiting for the revolution to start so we can rid ourselves of these government/parasites.
  20. I am born and raised NY and lived here for 45 years now. I have thought about moving quite a few times. I have a job I could work anywhere pretty much and the wife could get a job easily in her field. Family and friends is what we do not want to leave. And this state is beautiful and filled with wonderful outdoor places. I love the Adirondacks and we have more public land than a lot of other states combined. Tons of fishing. These things are hard to beat. I love the four seasons even though January and Febuary suck more every year older I get!! For expense wise I have read numerous times the overall cost of living NY is very reasonable excluding the Big City at the bottom compared to the other states. For politics we seem to have all the idiots. And instead of us leaving we need to throw them out! I have travelled all over this country though and if I did move...... Nothing way south too hot and no seasons. No west coast well because it is the left coast!! Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota is awful pretty country. Always liked Kentucky too but I would not root for no stinkin Wildcats!
  21. I have visited Texas quite a few times. I definetly gotta give props to Texas in there don't f with us attitude and stance on guns. Good ole folks and some fantastically beautiful women!! But the place is a flippin desert!! And Like 2 lakes in the whole state! NYS is by far a way better piece of property we just need to cut off down state and kick them out of NY! Texas is just way too hot for me. If I was moving maybe Wyoming they are another state that is saying bring the fed gun laws and you will get a battle.
  22. Rest in peace Bill!! Prayers and thoughts out to family and friends.
