10/23 56 d Went over to my "hole" stand and sat another 2.5 hours. Bit warm out and man I could have filled a bushell basket with squirrels! I did have 2 button bucks come out at 5:30 and stay around for over half an hour. My brother was hunting up top from me and had a real interesting night. He had a fisher come out and hop on a stump out in front of his stand. He was taking a pic of it when it turned and saw him and ran right to his tree and stopped at the base. My bro grabs a branch and is smacking it against the tree thinking the fisher is gonna come up and visit. It finally took off he did get a pick of it and it is a fisher. I have never seen one here in central NY. Then right at dark when he is packing up he sees something else coming in to him. He hits it with the flash light and says it was the fattest raccoon he ever saw!! Better day today, felt good seeing some deer.

10/23 am 45 d My brother and I got out behind the house this morning. I had two bucks cut behind me around 8:30 am. One was a 4 point and the other I think a 6 point, both 1.5 year olds. Nice morning to be out, sat for 2.5 hours. My brother had one run by him just before it got light out.

Sounds like a real fun day! Must be a very good buck to doe ratio to have that kind of fighting. My bucks have no interest in chasing yet. Not even close. I saw two bucks together today in a bachelor group.

10/22 pm 49 d Back into 3 Rivers with my brother in another spot. We hiked way back in to a semi island I wanted to try. Man I am beat. Hour in and an hour out with climbers and packs. Broke a clip on my Badlands and lost my outer jacket I had strapped on. Had to backtrack in the dark to find it. No deer sighted. Not the best day. 5.5 hours on stand and not a flag. Back at them in the morning.

10/22 am 46 d Took the climber over to 3 Rivers with my bro. Sat for 3.5 hours and the only thing I saw is another hunter barrelin through in front of me 5 minutes before light.

10/21 am 46 d Out behind the house this morning for 1.5 hours. Had to come in early to meet the washer delivery guy, But washer did not come in so...could of stayed out! Anyhow, bumped into a small buck on my way out, looked like the 3 pointer from the other day. Otherwise nothing, wind was 10 to 15 again but not terrible.

Hey there Zem!! I will be back at em in a couple hours!!

I have some stands that are better in the am and some in the pm. I am at a toss up I like all times. I hate getting up in the morning but I do for hunting season and I love the quiet before first light, then the woods wake up. Who gets to enjoy that like us? I also like the fact that if I hit a deer in the am it should be an easier recovery. But the evening has been good to me as well and boy some of the night recoveries I have had are the best stories!! My official answer both.

Yep all the fawns I see are dropped in May so November puts them at 1/2 year old. This is a good conversation to start up with my daughter who has been "almost" 12 since the day after she turned 11!!

I would say the human factor in and out affects them more than anything. I only have one inferred but it has been in the same spot for over two years. Over a small old food plot field. I seem to have the same frequency of pics over time. And yes a lot of the deer look at the camera like they hear it. I change my card out when I mow the lawn I mow a big loop through the woods it seems to have less human impact.

I do get out a lot. Benefits of my job. I really am not a big fan of the first week anyway. I do not have big food sources like agricultural fields, and my apples are always gone before October so my spots are not big summer pattern places. I love October 31st and the first week of November. Even still I am hitting weather bug to see what looks good tomorrow. Looks real wet in the am!! I must hit weatherbug 20 times a day in hunting season!!

10/19 pm 62 d Should of got out this morning but needed to make up some work. I got out this afternoon for two hours in the Hole ladder stand and it was windy. Not super bad, I had hope but not a flippin thing. I'm am off to a slow start!! I finally got my bowhunter log in the mail today, I am getting depressed filling it out for the lat 5 days!! My wife called me at 7:30am this morn she is dropping my daughter off at school and there is a doe in someones front yard across from the school flopping around blood all over the white picket fence.... I tell her to catch a/the cop as she comes through the village. She did and he went over and dispatched it. Not sure if car hit or what. I might have been better off to get out of bed and go get it myself considering how my season has started!! I am not worried yet!!

I would agree with most the others. A real good 2.5 or a solid 3.5. Not a great pic to judge but no characteristics of an older buck.
-
Welcome to the site, where a bouts you at in CNY? I am north west of Syr.
-
Welcome, I live in Onondaga County as well. Do you hunt local?
-
I usually take mine to get done. I have done them and no it is not hard but it takes me forever. I am not a trained butcher like the guy I take it to is. I would agree there are a lot of butcher shops I would not bring a deer to but there are good ones. Just like anything else do some research. Actually ask to stay and watch their process. The guy I use I trust and he does a real good job. I also have a second shop I trust that I can use. It costs me like $65 a deer. Well worth the time to me. I would rather be hunting!

10/18 am 46 d Out back on time this morning. Real nice morning, finally no wind! Saw my fisrt deer of the season!! Had a 1.5 year old 3 point, I could not see brows on him, come by me early. Passed him as he went by at 25 yards. He milled around browsing behind me for quite a while. That was it but it is a start!!

congratz on the deer!
