I either have some hens 100 yrs to my left or another hunter.

Heard gobbles about 5:30. Have seen 10 deer. Idk if my box call is damp but it sounds terrible and all the practice I did with my mouth call and I feel like I sound like a wounded goose. Just going to be patient and not call.

I'm checking in. In the blind and all set up. Forgot my cheaters to read the phone so hopefully this is readable...lol Warm, quiet and just starting to get light on the east horizon. Come on first gobble!

Ok, so I have looked around for a jake decoy and I haven't been able to find one. The places that are open are sold out....Walmart/Runnings. My plan tomorrow is to set my two hen decoys, one standing and one feeding about 20 yds from the blind and off to my left so if the Toms come out of the woods on my right they may come closer before hanging up. So do I really want the hens facing me? Would them facing my direction draw attention to me with the tom wondering what the turkey is looking at? Does it not matter because you it is only the jake decoy you set facing you? Thanks for answering all my questions! If I am lucky enough to score it will be because of all your help!

Thanks everyone! Ran out of likes!

Squirrelwhisperer, I would swear your posts were mine. I still have my 1995 900RR parked in the corner of the garage. I can't get rid of it even though I haven't ridden it since I bought my 03 Z06 back in 05. It was the first thing I ever bought new. I have been thinking about pulling the carbs, replacing the gas lines and getting it running again. I can't imagine it would need much. It was fine when I parked it. My 15 year old daughter is constantly asking me to get it going so I can ride her. I think that is what holds me back from at least riding it once a year up too Americade. She would want to go and if anything ever happened to her while she was riding with me, I would never be able to forgive myself. My brother rides my Nephew all the time. Makes me nervous.....and of course if I climbed on it, I would have to see if I could still do rolling burnouts and ride wheelies....Probably wouldn't go over good at 47

Thanks everyone! I am hoping to celebrate more tomorrow than today while I am standing over my first gobbler!

That's a good deal! If you haven't already I would post it on AT and crossbow nation. Can't imagine it would last long on either of those sites.

That's why I wanted to make sure I was dead center. Seems like that will be harder trying to center a large circle. Maybe when I do it, it will be easy to tell where center is....

Ok, now you guys (pygmy, grampy) have me thinking I shouldn't try it. Two guys that have probably forgotten more about firearms than I will ever learn.. I wouldn't have shot the slugs through the turkey choke.

I'll be in a blind Friday morning and then running and gunning this weekend....
-
Awesome! That's what I was thinking! Obviously I will shoot with Turkey loads and check the pattern after...Thank you

So I purchased a Beretta A300 Turkey Edition. I patterned the gun for turkey and it seems to shoot fine but I really like the idea of a reflex Red Dot so I ordered a mount and a Vortex Venom. Right now the shipping is showing I will receive it Friday so hunting with the reflex Friday morning will be out but I would like to get this mounted and sighted in Friday afternoon to hunt with this weekend. I have never sighted in a shotgun shooting shot before. I have watched some videos and what I have watched almost seems more like a guestimate than an actual site in. So here is my stupid thought, can I site in with slugs? I would think that would give me a much more precise aiming point and then once sited in check with the turkey shells? Or is it better to just get the pattern in what seems like the center and that is good enough? Sorry if this is a really dumb question, the only shotgun I have ever sited in was when I put a scope on my slug gun back before we were aloud to hunt with rifles.

No private land but there is the Albany Pine Bush as well as places like Partridge Run that are not far at all from Albany....Can't tell you what the Turkey hunting is like at those places but exploring them would be a lot better to me than sitting on the couch in quarantine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Yup, thats exactly what blind it is...i picked it up at Runnings last weekend. My thoughts now are to unzip the front like you said but leave the mesh in the side windows. I don't think I have to worry about the back, I have it tucked into some really thick crap on the edge of the field. I could be wrong but I don't think the turkeys will enter the field through that snarled mess when there are other options. I guess I'll see whats best when I am in it. I am more looking forward to running and gunning with my hunting buddy that opening Sunday but it would be really cool to get my first bird all on my own...

I was thinking about the shoot through mesh after I posted that. The reason I took it down is because there are 3 small windows with the shoot through mesh. Maybe 1'x1'. Otherwise the windows unzip and they are probably 18"x30" or so and there isn't any mesh. I planned on using the bigger opening. Should I just use the small windows with the mesh?

Thanks, I am all out of likes.....Hopefully I will be patient enough...….I started bow hunting 6-7 years ago and that gave me a lot more patience than I have ever had hunting....Hopefully that will serve me well....I am excited about it....

Thank you, I am all out of likes.....

I was afraid there was going to be a fence between the properties. It was the first thing I checked....There isn't, I was glad about that....
-
I have read over calling is bad.....My plan I to do some calls at first light to let them know where I am and then try and be patient. Please let me know if that is a good strategy. How much is too much? Every 15 minutes? Half hour?
-
Thank you, I will be in a blind on the farm property. It is really the only place to hunt. I got a Turkey chair for running and gunning on the lease. I am glad you said that about shooting so close. I would have tried to get them as close as possible if not for that....
-
Two decoys it is....less to carry:) Glad you said 15 yards from the blind. I would have put them a lot farther.....
-
I set the blind because there is really only one place to hunt on this property. I have no idea why this is writing red...lol I am sure when I hunt on the lease with my buddy that knows what he is doing I will be running and gunning....
-
The blind does have shoot through mesh....I took it down. I will put it back the first morning I am in it!...Will I be able to get away without a mask and some movement with the mesh up?
