  1. Good shoot this morning. 24 killed. If I could have been able to get into the hedgerow to hide it would have been a great shoot. The snow was just too deep. I had to try to hide behind a berm but most of the birds busted me. Nice low fliers in the wind too. Tomorrow is another day!!!!
  2. Great shooting!!! I too am a crow hunting addict. I was hoping to get out this weekend but the snow will keep me away. My best morning this winter was 32 killed. I am hunting alone this year as my nephew and hunting partner is on his first year of law school at SU. (I remember that dreadful year myself) Aside from upland hunting with my setters, nothing compares to that first distant crow call as the sun is coming up. I may be able to help out a large dairy farmer close by with his pigeon problem this weekend!!
  3. It is also a shock collar and she is very sensitive to the neck. On the lowest setting she goes ballistic is you need to use it. So the alternative is around the waist. Also that particular unit is a bit cumbersome around the neck. She is only 27 lbs.
  4. Fernco all the way. Made for this purpose and their flexibility comes in handy. Mine have held up like new going on 20 years.
  5. Got out yesterday to new spot. Not in the flyway but was able to manage 15. Moved this morning on the edge of the flyway and got a dozen before the winds blew me out. Not the numbers expected but still a couple of fun hunts.
  6. Going to hit a new area in the morning. Large dairy farm being bombarded by feeding crows in the morning. Clouds of pigeons flying around while scouting it this afternoon. Farmer wants every bird dead as they have been raising heck with his feed. Looking for my first 50 crow day. We shall see.
  7. For the sheer diversity of terrain and hunting style opportunities, from mountains to large Agriculture, we have it very well here in New York.
  8. Has anyone been out after the black bandits? I have been too busy to get out. Maybe this afternoon.
  9. I do not intend to offend anyone by my position. I am certain that there are many 12 year olds that are wuite capable. I am also certain that most of the adults are more than capable to accompany and mentor thrir children. However, at 12 years old and not properly mentored and supervised is a disaster I am not comfortable sharing the woods with. We all waited until the proper age. We did not wuit the sport because we had to be spectators for a couple of years. Sometimes having to wait it out and learn by watching instead of doing is not a bad thing.
  10. Great shooting!! I haven’t been after them in 3 weeks. Hopefully this weekend I can get out. Last shoot was able to kill 30. I am hoping for one 50 bird day this season.
  11. My personal opinion is that a child matures quite a bit between 12 and 14 and that they themselves have learned more self-control and discipline which may avert a dangerous situation. I recognize not every child, or adult for that matter, should be judged by their age; however, I wiuldybe more comfortable in the big game woods without 12 yr olds shooting rifles.
  12. Nothing beats the beaty of a bird dog puppy!! Good look with it.
  13. I have the same addiction!! I think I am up to 18 belgians...most of which are sweet 16s. My 16 ga fetish carries on into Citoris...savage 720....Remington Mod 11 to name a few. NOTHING compares to the feel of a Belgian Sweet 16...though my light 20’s are nice too. Something about those purple shells brings fond memories of my dad pheasant hunting with his 720
  14. I have all 16 JS calls on the foxpro now. Love the Crow Reveille
  15. A good friend has siund equipment he used in television production. He was able to play the JS sounds into the computer as a speaker and then convert them to mp3
  16. I would be happy yo make a plan to get together with any of you as my hunting partner (nephew/son) is tied up in law school and I have been going alone. I won’t be able to get out again until the weekend of the 9th. Got a FoxPro shockwave...18 decoys...Bob Arohnsons calls AND Johnny Stewart calls all on the FoxPro. I am kind of addicted to the damned sport of crows.
  17. Unfortunately not all adults who take to the woods are responsible and I fear the youngsters will not be taught or monitored properly which can be dangerous. Once that bullet leaves the gun you cannot bring it back.
  18. And whenever they darted a rhino in the @$$ he would say ‘and a perfect shot’...or merlin would be in the chopper while poor jim was wrestling a leopard.
  19. We are in a great flyway here in Oneida County. I only have to drive 4-5 miles to be in great crow hunting. What ticks me off is we have thousands toisting in the trees behind my house every night but can’t shoot them here in the city limits. Not worth losing my law license for that. They send me nuts though. It is an addiction once you really start getting into them
  20. Crows were flying yesterday. As cold as it was, I was able to kill 30 in 2 sets. One set was in a standing sweetcorn field still full of corn. Foxpro drew them in well.
