    Success

A little different opening day weather wise this year. Looked more like deer season. Had some birds on roost gobbling. Then the hen started. She and I going. I pissed her off. Tom's gobbled at both of us. Flew down and walked off with her. Plan A didn't work. Went back into roost area at 10:00. Set up and called. Got a gobble. Worked him all the way to the gun. 20 lbs. 8" beard with 3/4" spurs. Not the biggest Tom on the farm but he gave me an awesome hunt. Signed, Happy Hunter.
  2. Probably one of last seasons bagles
  3. I was on the mountain behind the farm one morning. No gobbling since they flew down. Then the milk tanker pulled into the barn yard. He gave a couple blasts on his air horn. Two gobblers busted out just down the ridge from me. One of them went for a ride in my truck. Who'd of thought.
  4. Great hunt. Every hunt is different, a challenge. Good job.
  5. Awesome hunt. Any bird is a good bird. They don't come easy. Congratulations.
  6. ThisOn the lid it says Yellow Tulip Poplar and Eastern Cedar. It has a medium raspy yelp. Sounds nice. This bird really liked it too.
  7. Actually one of my favorite hunts was this past Saturday. A friend of mine knew this old man who use to hunt. He still makes turkey calls by hand. He gave my friend a box call. The old fella passed away this past winter. This box call has never been in the field. My friend said take it and call one in with it in memory of Charley. He gobbled of his roost at at the call. Flew down and headed my way. The decoys did the rest. Absolutely awesome hunt. Very memorable.
  8. Hunting in Otsego county central NY. Leatherstocking country. Absolutely beautiful. Had more gobblers on the farm I hunt than last year. That was a good sign when I started scouting. Got six days of hunting in two get my two birds. Absolutely awesome hunting this year. Good luck to all you guys with tags to fill. I'm going fishing.
  9. I also used a handmade box call that has never been on a hunt before. It did the trick
  10. Had a bird gobble from his roost last night. He gobbled alot this morning. Grass was so tall I had to snip off some old corn stalks and put my decoys on them. It worked. I heard him fly down. When he came out into the field he spotted my decoys and came straight towards them. First time in three weekends he didn't have a hen with him. Perfect weather and awesome hunt.
  11. I have the same situation where I hunt. If they fly down and go uphill to the fields I can't hunt that farm. All I can do is watch them. If the go downhill to those fields I can hunt them. So I never know what's going to happen. I'm going to try a new plan from the play book this weekend.
  12. Well, Saturday morning he flew down and walked off with a hen. Sunday morning I got in closer. I saw him fly down. Then he walked off with that hen again. This fall I'm taking her out....
  13. I had one gobble from his roost tonight. So I've got a hunt for tomorrow morning. We'll see how it goes.
  14. Nice bird. Love the woods this time of year.
  15. Birds off the roost gave me the slip. They gobbled from the field but wouldn't leave. Hunted them all morning. Went back to the roost area, set up and called in between naps. 11:20 I heard him gobble. 11:53 I shot him. 19lbs. 9" beard with 3/4" spurs. Stuck it out and it paid off.
  16. Awesome hunt. Have to dig out my aluminum call. It's time to change things up.
  17. I know your pain. I rolled a nice one last year. Was sick about it.
  18. That's an awesome picture. Congratulations on a nice bird
