  1. Never been a fan of buck contests... gets too many hunters doing the wrong thing to get a winner buck.
  2. 5 pages of bigger 2013 NYS Bucks http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2013-new-york-whitetails.html Lots of other 2013 bucks here https://www.facebook.com/newyorkantleroutdoors
  3. That's just cool! Once in a lifetime is right.. congatst
  4. I have been tracking for over 20 years... I even track on my 1000 acre lease... nearly all my bucks have been taken that way. Love the anticipation of that big buck being just ahead... even though most times he's not
  5. I use them for viewing smaller bucks at a distance.. although I may not want to kill them.. I love watching them
  6. That's a giant!.. send some photos and info to me
  7. This is exactly why I make all my posted photos of both hunter and deer, hunter name, county and date of kill... if it's not legit the hunter rarely gives out that info... and if he does it's usually easy to track down. If you notice not many of these slip through the cracks for long without being outted
  8. If you're concerned more about meeting the objective of the restriction ( yearling buck protection) selecting a buck to take isn't a problem at all even without bino's...if you're just trying to kill any buck that has 3 on a side (like a yearling 6 point), YES, you will probably have to wait until you can get a better look at the rack, hopefully by then that yearling 6-point will have found safety somewhere out of the line of fire
  9. I took the pics.. not bad for my phone camera!
  10. Southern zone gun season 2013 in Orleans County... 7x5 with 9" bases.
  11. My good friend Dave shot this big 6-point yesterday morning on our lease in Madison County... he saw the buck breed a doe twice before taking him... there were 3 other smaller bucks with him.

    Tracking

I do.. and if you're doing it right you shouldn't be spooking anything.
  14. You are correct Sam... but photoperiod is what triggers does to go into estrus as well... and once the days become short there will always be a doe somewhere coming into estrus... hence the reason that the rut doesn't just happen for a day or two, but extends for a period of time... sometimes many weeks... 13 of 13.. although I can tell the difference between a buck and a doe track... if you follow them long enough
  15. It basically boils down to older mature bucks are smarter and harder to get a look at... they make very few mistakes... waiting in a tree stand for a 5.5 year old buck to show up is probably going to be a long long wait. Unless you hang out until after dark.
  16. I'd buy a postage stamp piece as long as it's surrounded by 1000's of acres of public land
  17. I never really thought much about it, but many of the Texas deer have no association with the hunter... just the shot ... in some cases the deer are never pressured by humans and may never see one. More like a video game than hunting.
  18. That's a bruiser!!! Great pic too,,,Message me with his name, county and date killed and I'll put it up on my website... www.nyantler-outdoors.com
  19. More 2013 bucks here.. 2 Pages http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2013-new-york-whitetails.html
  20. This kind of story is exactly why I love hunting... It snowed a couple inches today on the Madison County land that I hunt... so I decided to take a walk with my recurve to see if I could sneak up on something. I entered a young hardwood stand on a hill and pussy footed around looking for a track to follow. As I was walking I spotted movement about 50 yards away in the woods. It was three doe milling around an old orchard in the middle of the woods. They were kind of looking my way so I froze to get a better look. I got thinking that maybe I'd take one if I could get one close enough. I don't usually take a doe until late muzzleloader, but I figured if I could get close enough to take one of these doe on the ground it would make for a good story. I took out my grunt call and made a short, soft bleat.. and sure enough they started to make their way towards me. I didn't have any cover to get behind because the trees are not that big in this young woods, so I just stayed as still as I could and waited to see what would happen when they got closer. Two of the deer stopped about 30 yards out, but the biggest doe kept coming. She stopped about 20 yards away but was looking right at me so I couldn't draw on her... for a moment I thought maybe she had me pegged... but then she put her head down and started feeding. I still had no shot because she was still facing me head on... it did, however, give me time to raise my bow up and get into position for a shot. She started moving towards me again feeding and at about 15 yards she turned broadside right in front of me. I thought, "Ok, here we go." I drew my bow and let her fly. Something didn't feel or sound right... the deer jumped back a few yards, still in range, and I had no idea what happened to the arrow. I looked beyond the deer for my arrow.. then I looked in front of me and saw it sticking out of the ground, straight up, about 6 feet away. My limb had hit a small branch of the sapling I was standing next to.. oh well... the deer was in range still, but looking right at me... just standing there... she finally looked away and I slowly start pulling another arrow from my quiver... she kept looking back at me and I had to stop moving several times before finally getting the arrowed nocked. By then she had turned and was facing straight away from me between 18-20 yards away. I raised the bow slowly, but she walked directly away from me out of range and met up with the other two deer... they got antsy ant trotted off together up the hill and out of the woods... I looked down again at my arrow sticking out of the ground 6 feet away... I laughed, picked up the arrow and put it back in my quiver and continued on my way.. what a great little adventure!
  21. I would take him because he's a beautiful buck... culling any buck like that to stop those genetics is down right crazy... that is a really handsome buck! This is the kind of stuff I hate about where hunters are taking QDM... managing deer to have specific rack configurations is not good conservation and falls short of what hunting is all about in my opinion.
  22. Not quite outside the ears yet.. but man what a handsome buck!
  23. On this forum?? I'm sure there would be some beauties! All we need is someone stupid like me to offer up the photo... my job is done here fellas.. carry on...
