  1. Aren't the AR s no longer in affect in Sterling Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Osborn. You said Nov 1st. Is that correct or is it the 15th. My sterling permit states the 15 if I M reading it correctly
  3. Sorry to ask but what exactly is deer search?
  4. Went there last Sunday. Drove right in at 5:45 and got a spot near the fields no problem. Didn't seem crowded at all. Never saw another group of hunters until we got back to the truck. Er...uh....yeah it's crowded. Don't go. Just kidding.
  5. The bird was taken in Stewart State Forest.
  6. Well it's official. I'm hooked. Can't wait to get out and do it again. Spent tons of time researching(thanks to all of you)practicing my shooting and game planning for this. Went out Sunday morning for the first time. My hunting buddy and I are both rookies so expectations were low. We felt that the day would not be a waste no matter what happened because you are always learning. We'll at about 9:30 in the morning I was walking through a field with waist high grass hoping to scare up some pheasants(no dog...yet). About 100 yards away from me a single pheasant flys in from the North side and lands. Talk about getting juiced up. Now I know there is something in this field. I slowly stalked the pheasant and as I got about 30yds away I could see the grass moving as the pheasant tried to run on the ground. At about 20yds it took flight and I swung my Shotgun around and took the shot. First time not shooting at paper. I am hooked.....can't wait to get out and try again. Thanks for all the help and teaching from all your posts on this forum. I felt prepared and confident.
  7. That's a good idea. I just don't know if my wife would like me to get another gun so early in the game. It was a hurdle getting the first one. Just like most of the people on this board I am sure that you all have multiple hobbies. Fishing......etc.
  8. Thanks for the info guys. Looks like that outdoor range is a great deal.
  9. I did know that but thanks. I downloaded the paperwork. I was looking to mostly deer hunt but was curious about turkey and other small game or birds as we'll. what are my options in the area?
  10. Where can I go to shoot and sight my new shotgun in? I live in Rockland county.
  11. Both. It has the rifled slug barrel with the cantilever and the smooth barrel.
  12. I would like to hunt sterling forest. It's close to home. I will also look to hunt in the Adirondacks once I have some experience, because I am purchasing a house on Sacandaga lake.
  13. Yes I did complete the safety course. I purchased a Mossberg 500 Field/deer combo 12 guage.
