Thanks for all of the input and suggestions, you guys are awesome! This year will be my first season bow hunting and I'm pretty damn excited for the challenge ahead. I'll be shooting standing up from a tree stand and using a compound bow. While I'm at the range I'll start practicing holding for a while and then shooting to mimic what you guys have said above.

I'm wondering how long can you guys hold a bow at full draw and still feel confident you can place a good shot on a deer? Do you prefer to draw your bow back as the deer is coming in? Or not until you're sure you've got a sure shot? Thanks, Rookie bow hunter

Thanks for the info ALG11. I actually purchased the Bear Cruzer, it's also pretty adjustable. So far pretty happy with the bow, but I'm sure I'll want to upgrade to something better in a few years.

Thanks for all of the good info guys, appreciate it.I think I'm going to buy new instead of used only because I need to buy a left handed bow, I'm left eye dominant and I shoot right handed. As much as I'd prefer to shoot right handed and just close one eye, I think it's best if I just man up and learn to shoot lefty so I can have both eyes open. I'm pretty close to purchasing the Bear Cruzer. Again, thanks for all the help.

Hey guys - I'm looking for some recommendations for decent compound bows under $500 (with accessories). I'm new to the bow hunting world but I'd like to try my hand at it either this season or the next. I've shot my friends bow a bit and it's pretty enjoyable just shooting at a target. Anyways, I've read some good reviews about the following bows: - bear crux - bow tech fuel - Hoyt charger - pse surge - bear mauler - diamond core Any advice or reccomendations would be much appreciated. At around 11am on Saturday I harvested my first ever deer. Since this was my first time hunting I wasn't sure if I'd really enjoy hunting or not, but this was one of the most significant moments in my life and I'm definitely going to continue to hunt. I felt sorrow for the loss of life but I also felt excitement from the thrill of the hunt and the meat I had just acquired. Eventhough this doe is just an average size, I'm really happy with it. Just thought I'd share my first time experience with you guys.

Advice - Hunting from tree stand vs on the ground?

Hey Guys - First time deer hunter here. I've been trying to decide whether I should hunt from my tree stand or from the ground this season. What do you guys prefer when hunting with a rifle? The land I'll be hunting on isn't heavily wooded, but its also not wide open either.

Meat Eater by Steve Rinella is a good read. He incorporates interesting hunting stories, a little hunting history and some good recipes.
