  1. Great I already put in my vacation time. Looks like I'll have to add another week in there if they change it to oct 1. I take Halloween week off. See more deer that week then any other.

  2. some of the BPS bows were Reflex which was Hoyt parts. Reflex was a part of Hoyt. Now some of the BPS bows are hoyt  but also Diamond. Just like Matthews started their own off brand bow but it's still a matthews just cheaper.

  3. There should be a competency test to make sure a 12 year old could at least draw and shoot a 35# bow and hit the target . I believe 35# is still the minimum weight allowed in NYS . If the 12 year old passes the safety test and bow test , he / she gets certified .

And before it's asked , it wouldn't bother me if I had to take the test with a bow at 60 or 70 # draw weight and hit a target . They have that requirement in place in Irondiquoit in order to cull the deer herd in the village .

my 14 year old at 6'4" , 235lbs pulls a 60lb bow and I make sure he is sighted in up to 25 yards and he darn well knows not to shoot pass that or else he'll deal with me, lol

  4. I'm 34 years old and personally never had a father figure to teach me to hunt or fish. That I learned from my uncle and grandfather. I have passed my love for this onto my tow boys. One will be 15 next month and the other just turned 11. My 14 year old got his first deer last year with a gun and went to school to show his pictures. Out of all the kids he knows only 3 have ever been hunting with thier dads. It's sad and I think young age is the time to do it b/c when they get into hs they will be tired up with sport, girls and then college. I was more excited when my kid got his first deer then I was when I got mine. There's something about teaching the kids the outdoors that I like. I always take my kids friends out in our boat fishing or hunting when I can. If the youth doesn't continue to hunt  the sport will be lost when we are gone.

  5. That will go thru a rib cage. I've use a lot of different head and only shoot 52lbs of draw weight and a properly placed shot will go thru the ribs of a deer at a resonable range 30yrds or less every time. Most non pass thrus hit bone. And most not found deer are from a poor hit that was tracked to fast and jumped or wasn't hit where the shooter though it was. A deer hit thru the lungs will expire within 100yrds almost all the time. Arrows do strange things when passing thru a body cavity after hitting bone.

    ;D

  6. well if you actually read the bill. The kid isn't allowed to be in the woods by him or herself.  At 14 with a gun or bow the parent has to be present. 12 isn't to early for a bow. I've had both my kids in the woods since they could walk but every year it the same question, When can I shoot or how come the kids on your DVD's are 10 and younger and hunting.  Even if you have your kids out in the woods every chance you get if they can't hunt then they will stick with the video games where they can kill what they can.

  7. you'll be surprised.  My bow is just over 300FPS and my arrows are 300 gr,  I was going to try the pile driver arrow but I feel in love with my new Gold tip Pro hunter arrows. I'd say pick up a used set and shoot them into a 3d target. Then shoot your muzzy into same target.

  8. You either love the rage or hate the rage. there is no middle on them. I shot 2 deer with mine. One deer went 200 yards with a horror film blood trail and dropped. The second one I never found. I did find my arrow and saw the tip was bent into a 90 degree angle. I'm guessing it hit bone and bent. This deer had a huge blood trail, bubbles in the blood the hole nine yards.I went out last weekend and searched for the deer again. I hoped to find bones etc but nothing. I had complete pass through when I shot thunderhead 100's so I know it's not the bow set up I have. I don't like the fact that I can't get a pass through on them. I prefer two holes VS one hole myself. I switched back to fixed blade. Slick trick 100 Mags this year for me. Do a search on archerytalk.com for the rage and you can decide after reading the 100's of post on them. Just my 2cents.

  9. don't get caught up in all the hype out there. Gotta have the fastest, most expensive bow out there type. Shoot a bunch of them and go with what feels good to you. I got a bunch of friends together and shot what they had. Most of them have the same draw or close to it for me. just don't let a dealer talk you into something if it doesn't feel right.  I

  10. I hate Gander Mountain in cicero. I like to mess with the guys in the fishing department there. I'll walk in and ask for walleye divers by cotton cordell and they always tell me they don't carry them. I then walk over to where they are grab a few and go back to the guys and say Look I found? Guess you do carry them. Every time I'm in there I ask for them and they tell me they do not carry them.

  11. Here's my story. FDXX75 bought my redhead arrows off of me. I went to BPS to buy a Showdown Ice fishing flasher b/c they are the only locel store that had then left. Since I was there I went up to look at new arrows. Cory the archery manager was there. I told him the bow I am shooting my draw length and poundage. Told him I am looking at the beman, gold tips and carbon express. He talked me into the gold tips. I went to my truck and brought my bow in so he could measure  my arrows to cut them. Again I stated I'm shooting 65lbs. He set me up with Gold tip pro hunter 5575. Here's where I messed up. I didn't look at the arrow chart on the box to double check. He cut my arrows. We chatted for a bit. I let the store. When I got home I was looking over the box and saw I needed the 7595 arrows.  ::D YES I WAS MAD AS ALL HECK.  I just bought arrows I shouldn't be shooting. I did some research on line and asked around on some bow sight and was told I need to get the 7595's. I called BPS back and talk to Cory. He tells me the arrows I bought are fine and he should the same ones. I explain that to me archery is all about confidence and if I think I have the wrong arrows it just won't work. Plus what I paid for them I should be happy. He told me to bring them in and he'll exchange them.  Long story short they will work with you but make sure you go in there knowing what you really need.
