Maybe CWD will be the onset of the "Zombie Apocalypse". It could happen. Just saying.

HAHA! Pick! No flags! We might win!

I just ate three. Not as hot as I expected. To me, they have a nice heat that lingers, but not what I was aiming for. Salty is what I taste the most. The mango/habenero has to be the blame. The g/f bought this sauce last summer. Never tried it before. Still good drums and the beer is tasting good as well.

How are we cheating? OK, one gun to fit all, 20 ga. pump ( pumps are very reliable ) with mod choke, around a 30" barrel. Ammo is super easy to get ( both slugs and different shot loads ), not horrible on the recoil, and a pretty flat trajectory over all. As for 12 vs. 20, personal choice. 16 might be in the middle but in some areas ammo is hard to find.

One gun for all game in NA? That's a tricky one. So, I am going to make my call on all game including small game and predators. A shotgun in either 12 or 20 gauge, with a rifled barrel and a smooth bore barrel. You have everything covered. You can't hunt turkey or water fowl or do wing shooting with a rifle. Even a 20 will kill anything we can hunt in NA. The reason I say a shotgun is it really is the most universal of all the fire arms out there. For those that say the 20 might not be enough for larger game, think about this. If you can kill it with a bow you can sure as hell kill it with a 20.

Smoked Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Backstrap

That sounds and looks great. I bet this would be good slow cooked over camp-fire coals or even on a grill. -
Yeah, game is irritating to say the least. Already on 4th beer and threw my hat across the house. f$#@!n Bills! Seeing where my desk is in my office I can see the TV in the living room, so now I am watching the game and looking at hunting gear. Here's the chicken before and after. I changed up how I baked them. Alternating sauce every 20 minutes, mango/habenero then atomic habenero, then mango then atomic. Have them resting right now to soak up the heat a little more.

The other half is off making apple sauce at her parents house, so great day to watch the game. Just my hot chicken legs in the oven. Marinated over night in hot buffalo wing sauce,mango/habenero sauce, and cayenne pepper. Half way through I will add some atomic habenero sauce and let them finish baking. Bills game is ready for kick off, and I am about to pop a top on a cold Budweiser and get ready to yell at my TV for a few hours, and burn my mouth and guts with hot drums and blue cheese.

I was expecting to see pics of a huge rub or scrape, or a question about deer sign. That sign looks good though.

For me the problem is they are roosting in some pines right at the edge of a thick deer bedding area, and moving to a field on the other side of that bedding area to land I do not have permission to hunt. I just can't bring myself to start messing around too close to the bedding area until the gun deer starts. Today was the last day I had to hunt fall turkey NZ, and just like a day last week I just went back to bed. It was great being in the woods and using the time to scout deer for gun, but not filling my fall turkey tag isn't going to make me loose any sleep. I may hit some public land in the SZ next weekend, I am not sure yet. Haven't stepped foot in that area for about 12 years. If I do that again will end up being a scouting trip for deer season SZ. Boot on ground scouting is always more fun when you are actually hunting something while scouting. At least in my humble opinion.

I get the same issue. My hands and feet get cold fast in low temps. Fount how to deal with the feet with good wool socks and a size bigger boot. Been doing that for years. Gloves, I haven't found a cure yet. I have a pair of fleece gloves that work OK while still hunting, but sitting not so much and end up stuffing my hands in my pockets while sitting as well. I might try the muff now that it was recommended. At least for gun hunting. How well does the muff work for bow? Does it get in the way when drawing and shooting?

So I wonder how that 2 week kill only doe is working out

I have read where some didn't like the longer seasons, so in that sense I don't understand the complaints about the laws. But, on the other hand I can see why people are ticked off, DEC took the right to make the choice on our own away. It's a catch 22 and a bitter pill we had to swallow. Just keep making emails and sending letters to state the new laws is more or less not going to have the effect they hoped for. All we can do at this point. -
Been out a few times so far this year in the NZ. No real chatter back from the slate call. Greece is an area west of Rochester. Long way to the NZ from there.
-
Yep, that's north. I was asking because some people from the LI/NYC area think "Up North" is the Southern Catskills.
-
Or "Up North". Yep, that bushy tail does seem out of place in that pic.

You are hunting the way many of wish we could. You are in the woods, no sounds from passing cars, no dogs barking. You are hunting the way it should be. I keep coming back to this thread just to see what you have going on. The purity you have for deer hunting is very inspiring. I am looking forward to seeing your pics and vids for this season Robin. Again, thank you for sharing them with us. Good luck on your hunts this year.

Nice take for the day.

What do you consider "Northern New York" if I may ask. Nice bird BTW.

I have to say the ADK mountains. The places where no one else hunts. Not the full off with three other trucks parked. The deep dark areas where getting turned around means a world of $4it. When there is no pressure and no one killing them deer can get big, very big.

How did you get "boned"? Very hard to make out much in this pic, that's a lot of plants/brush to try and shoot through dude. Doesn't look like you would get a clean shot. Yeah, I see the devil kid too, upper right, looks an evil Eddy Munster? -

WTH does that mean? LOL That's a great question. How do we boot him out? There are some gun owners who only have firearms for self defense, and those people couldn't care less about hunters rights to to put food on the table. They wouldn't know a .40 from a 32 acp. What the hell do I know about making anyone read the fine print? Just tired of people whining and doing nothing. Mike Rossi and others are trying to get a dove season here in NY. They are putting out petitions, and making a stand. So if you aren't happy with things you don't like, do the same. Pitching a fit on HuntingNY.com will only get you minimal results. When will you learn this?
