  1. Looks like two different bucks. The tricky thing here is in the first pic, that bucks tips are bubbled up and ready to grow more. In the second pic, that buck is branching into an 8. So, it's a little touch and go, but I think 2 different bucks.
  2. How well will an owl call to startle them work in the fall? I have used them in the spring and had some luck getting them to wake up.
  3. If it was legal I would have taken the doe. But, yes If I was after a buck I would have taken the first one. You can't say on any given day what will walk in front of you. That monster may not have walked out that day, or any other day. For us meat hunters, when you have an opportunity, you take it. Horn hunters wait, and that's fine too.
  4. No dog and no kids. No way my chubby ass will be able to break them up. But, who knows, might give that method a try. Not sure about blasting a round. Maybe on the private land I hunt. But If I have to hunt the SZ, that will be public land. I know bow hunters will be in the area, so I am not sure I want to just blast off rounds I don't have too. I would normally be hunting deer with a bow in the fall as well. Just not this year. As for taking anyone with me? That won't work out so well. Most of my friends and family don't hunt, and the few friends that do, lets just say I refuse to hunt with them and leave it at that. Most of what I am reading says calling in the fall is good, but you have to call specifically for a tom/jake or a hen. So, I am asking people what they like and what has worked.
  5. Happy birthday Law, hope you have a great day.
  6. Ya like that jjb? Here's something a little heavier for those of us that like or music heavy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CprfjfN5PRs
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsEwK69LXjQ
  8. Actually, if you already have a USB charger for any phone, the USB will fit the card, and the end for the phone will already fit. Most of these cables are becoming universal. So upload from the field should be easy. Give it two more years. Cams prices will skyrocket because you will have access anytime through an app on your phone. Just like now you can turn on your lights from your phone.
  9. I remember reading in other places people use the USB cable to upload to phones. The actual phones weren't mentioned. You can do this a basic camera too. At least on my phone you can. Also, if you pull the card, upload to your phone/device, you can put the card right back in.
  10. I can deal with them, most times. But, my dog goes all wonky, so does the cat, and for some storms, even my fish try to hide. LOL
  11. That was an interesting read. Actually very informative. But........... There are flaws in that report. Only monitoring certain areas in certain months. Using an algorithm? Sorry, I swear I LMAO at that one. You can use an algorithm to determine how many toys your kid has, or you can count them and get a factual number. It takes boots on the ground, and people in the woods to see the real effect. Not every area is the same, and it seems people don't grasp that. The same as the DEC getting deer populations wrong and screwing up the bow hunting season. The only way to get facts, is to be there. If you love them great. If a hunter wants to shoot them, great. At this point in time it's still a choice. But, I'm done with this debate. The whole thing is like an anti hunter getting in your face after they just ate a steak. It's two bull headed people that will never reach a compromise. I am going to agree to just disagree, and move on. Happy hunting to those that hunt them, and happy photo op to those that enjoy them.
  12. Not here. Flood warnings and a possible twin typhoons.
  13. Anyone else getting hammered today. Had to take my ribs off the grill and finish in the oven.
  14. I would shoot a crazy horned buck of any age if I saw one.
  15. I had actually never heard of scatter and call back until a week ago. I thought it was people being wise ashes to see if a hunter would charge a flock of turkey like a nut case. LOL. Not for me, Noway I could scatter them I would just scare them and all go in the same direction. I don't run so fast anymore either. LOL
  16. I wouldn't sweat this one. Are you enjoying hunting? If so then just do what you do.
  17. Mine too most seasons. But, no bow this year, and I am not about to let the perfectly good shotgun I just bought go to waste. I have to buy the tags anyway for spring, I may as well use them and be in the woods hunting something while I wait for the NZ gun season to open.
  18. Maybe they are. Heres a quote from another thread: Now, this may sound like a good thing. Great, they are paying attention. But, if they are possibly now paying attention, all the people boasting about a willingness to break the law might get a closer look. Hmmmm.....This might be a huge double edge sword if they tagged this site to watch closer. JMO.
  19. Don't shoot them. They are beautiful creatures that help the ecosystem. They kill feral cats and rodents. They never have an impact on deer, other small game, or turkey/duck/geese/wood cock or what ever. They should be cherished and adored. Studied, photographed, documented. To kill one of these majestic creatures would be a crime against nature. I waited over an hour. This was sarcasm.
  20. This was outstanding! Vids were great! Pics just as great! This the backbone of hunting! Thank you for sharing this with us.
  21. Being my first year ever hunting turkey in the fall as a specific game, I am curious how you all prefer to hunt them. I think I will find a roost and hunt that as much as I can in the morning and evening. In between I think I will do a slow walk looking for that one turkey that likes to be a loner and try to get a shot. I highly doubt I will try that 50/50 thing called scatter and call back.
  22. I have watched this before, still love watching it! Great vid.
