  1. Some hunters have a camp, so leaving one at camp, and keeping one at home for the local hunts.
  2. Never say die! Unless you just shot a deer and it ran..... Been without my wheels for almost two weeks. Got out last weekend only due to my budding pricking me and bringing me back home. Hurts like hell when you can't get out there on some really great days. Told the g/f, "I am taking your truck Sat. night, you can have it back Sun. night.". Time's tickin' down now. The only way to kill a deer is to be in the woods. Unless you shoot from your kitchen window......................
  3. ASL? Age Sex Location? I swear, this is the second time I felt like I was in a dating site. Here's a tip Dake, never a good idea to just ask someone to take you in the woods you don't know. Especially someone you meet on the web. There are other 'predators' in the world then a coyote.
  4. The more land the more stands. I really don't see having more then 2 climbers though. Not like you leave em in the tree. Next season I will actually have 1 hang on, but a lot lighter then the one I am selling, and 3 or 4 ground blinds. The only reason for even the one hanger is a specific spot I need to be off the ground.
  5. KISS? That's a rock band right? Yeah, I know what it means. Think I will just make a big pot of chili for the set up night. Then, everyone do your own thing. It will most likely only be my buddy, his cousin, and myself. Buddy doesn't hunt, but can't cook either. So.....LOL Thinking the chili first night, chip in for eggs and sausage for breakfast, chip in for bread and lunch meat, and dinner is on the individual. Less crap, and no one can whine that I like really spicy food and I don't cook with salt. Never really thought about the whole hunting and trying to cook as well issue. The time of year we are planning for is early, so the sunset will be later. If we get a deer, then we alter the menu. Thanks for the input people.
  6. Fall turkey is pretty easy compared to spring, when you can only take a Tom, and you can only hunt till noon. If you are hunting in 4, be careful in 4J and 4K. Some areas require a special permit to hunt the public land. Fall is closed now ( except for 1C ), but I would still be out there looking while hunting deer. I also just walk the woods I hunt when possible and just look for signs of anything I want to hunt. Deer, turkey.....
  7. Mainly in WNY. Nothing to do but..............well..........
  8. I know it's early. But I talked my buddy into a few tent hunting trips next season. So, I figured I would ask what food you would bring on a trip like this. Will be bow hunting in the NZ, 3 night 4 day trip, 4 night 5 day trip, and the 3rd to be discussed. Will be camping on private land and using atv's to haul gear in. The trick is, I will be hunting, but also camp cook. Depending on weather, I will try to cook at least dinner over the fire/coals. Breakfast will be easy, propane stove, eggs and bacon, coffee. Lunch, sandwiches, dinner......... I am thinking for set up night, I will pre make some chili, and just reheat it, with some cornbread or French bread. Night 2, maybe pork chops, veggie and some white rice, or a nice beef stew I make in advance and reheat as well.. Night 3, steak and taters, veggie. Deer meet depending on kills. We are only about 3/4 of a mile from by buddies parents house, and using atv's, we can get a little carried away with food. It will just be late dinners, cause the cook will be hunting. If you made a trip like this, what would you bring for food? Just curious.........
  9. Then you may have wanted to leave this part out. I only hunted duck once. I was 15, and the guy who was teaching me to hunt, knew as much about ducks as he did about women. Someoone may be able to help you, but I would suggest some DIY tests. You have the decoys, so get out and learn. Down corn fields, swamps, even a creek that borders farm land are good spots.
  10. You looking for a date or someone to teach you how to hunt ducks?
  11. If you are on the ground try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3cH41GOOXU At around 13:20 he busts out the heater. EDIT! This is also a good video to show why you never shoot at blocks or rocks. Pink-zing-zoom.
  12. I am not sure many would shoot at a running deer with a scope anyway. Not at close range and running anyway. Good recipe for bad things. Just sayin'. Shooting a deer in the backside?...........NO NO NO NO! Did Quagmire tell you to do that? "Giggidy"......

    wtf snow!!!

What? Isn't anyone here old enough to remember the good ole winters we used to get? LOL A snowblower is your best friend this time of year. Well worth the cost.
  14. Will consider $75, and toss in a second ratchet strap. I realize this is not the right time of year to try selling a stand. The price is firm now. The stand was $119 last year, the straps were 15 a piece. So please don't ask for a lower price. $100 was fair! $75 is a steal.
  15. My brother doesn't fix anything the law doesn't require him to fix. Sorry about the crystal castle thing. It may have been taken out of context. Never lived anywhere where the landlord took care of this kind of stuff.
  16. That would be the kidney area......... My riding jackets have a core from shoulders to waist, front, back, and sides. But, they are designed different. They are not meant for sitting in freezing temps for hours. You might get a chill on the way up the lift, but riding back down you will sweat. Hunting, when we sit, we don't create body heat. We are still. So, our core temp drops fast. That's what we have to keep the warmest. I am just not sure battery operated clothing is really the best way to go. Wool is costly, but more effective. Even when it's soaking wet, it retains heat. So, I am just not sure the risk of the batteries dying, and new ones not charged are really a better way to go.
  17. The cold is a pain. Especially due to I only bow hunt. If I had my truck back from the shop I would have been out this morning. Barely any wind, but cold. Always hard to keep you body warm. I shoot fingers, so no clove on my right hand. I made a moisture wicking mit I put in my pocket to help keep my shooting hand warm. But, sitting in extreme cold when bow hunting effects more then just my fingers. My body gets cold, and the muscles and joints don't like drawing my bow. It is what it is, and I would rather be out there roaming the area, the sitting on the couch watching hunting shows.
  18. Giving up as a hunter is not an option. If you are a true hunter, you hunt, no matter what game and weather throw at you. If you don't see deer where they were, use that lunch break, leave the stand to do a little scouting. Go to them. Deer do not cater to us, we have to cater to them. Deer don't run through the woods like an ice cream truck letting us know they are coming. Get back out there! Move around, still hunt. Be patient. You never know what deer will do. Hunters don't give up, no matter what we find a way to sort it out.
  19. That should have been a given. Minimum 2 to 4 for shooting someone. He would still be out in a year. He will most likely just get probation, and not much else. Depends on how much money he has to pay an attorney to bail his a$$ out of this pile. That's the real part that sucks.
  20. This thread in a direct way, ties into people stealing, trespassing, and just acting like idiots. The respect for what you can do to other peoples land, or even worse, people, has gone away. It just seems more and more people don't care what they do. They just do it. What if that accident had been caused by a police chase, or even worse, a bunch of gang-bangers? It could have led to far worse then me just worrying about a cracked pole, damages lawn, and some debris. Not to be an a$$, but we don't all live in crystal castles and Cinderella is the closest neighbor. Anyway.......................
  21. That's a nice group. I would still make a scope adjustment 3" up, and left 2".
  22. "Core Heat" is just an area. It means the core. Your chest and back. I know this may be off your normal map, but look up a ski or snowboard jacket, with a core lining. It's designed to keep your core warm, chest back and kidneys warm on the lift up. Hunters sitting all day need more. I am just not sure about a battery operated layer.
  23. http://www.grainger.com/product/22MH12?gclid=CL2zkLfXgsICFXIF7AodtwoA_A&cm_mmc=PPC:GOOGLEPLAA-_-Safety-_-Workwear-_-22MH12&ef_id=UxKIdAAAATDRbUqy:20141117222605:s Think that link might work. I snowboard, and I hunt, I know how to layer clothing. I just thought this might be a bit much. It did teach me something though. Then again, I guess the old traditions of wool, that even when it's wet holds your body heat, are gone.
  24. OMG! People hate hunters, never going away. How did this turn into just an extension of other threads? I was told I was worthless last summer, just because I had a pair of camo bdu pants on and a Realtree TShirt. I was coming back form a weekend atv riding/scouting/camping trip. I stopped at the Stewarts on the corner of 29 and 147. Some jackass has something to say. Just because I had camo on. I laughed at him, got my coffee and came home. I just said this in another thread, stupidity is a plague. It infects everyone.
