  1. get rid of the round nose and put a big wide flat meplat on that bullet and your hole would have been the size of a orange.
  2. They are super tough animals. my 10 point I shot 5 years ago had a 12 gauge slug lodged in a backstrap ( completely healed up ) that we concluded came from my cousin the year before, and some one had shot him with birdshot before the archery season. When I shot him he was cruising for does and I grunted him in and he was acting 100% normal. tough tough animals.
  3. You state archery hunters have disrespect for deer , but then you say you have no problem shooting a 300 fps bolt 50 yards at a deer . you may not have wounded a deer yet but it will happen. Your eletist attituide is going to catch up with you.
  4. Myself and the wife have lcr's in 38+p and we love em. I pocket carry mine all the time, we both have shot several hundred rounds each and these little guns are ruger tough.my carry load is the old FBI load ( lead hollow point 158 grainers) . But after seeing the test that luckygunner did in 38 snub nose I will probably be going back to the the Remington 125 grain golden sabers.the one thing I did was install a fiber optic front sight on mine and a tritium night sight on the wife's ( that I like better )but the fiber optic is not bad. I say buy it you won't regret it.
  5. Everyone has given solid advice, I am going to give you some things that I personally think are reasons why a bow is better than a cross bow. My biggest thing I dislike about crossbows is how unbalanced they feel very heavy in the front, second is follow up shots one can get a follow up shot much quicker on a compound than a crossbow. Pull arrow from quiver , nock arrow draw bow ready to go, crossbow - pull bolt from quiver lower crossbow , stick foot in foothold grab string with both hands pull back string , load arrow and shoot. Plus shooting a bow is just cooler
  6. I like the challenge of hunting older deer, be it a buck or a doe. Which I think a old doe is harder to kill than a old buck.the thing I enjoy the most about hunting is the preseason, figuring out where to hang stands and the deer patterns. Putting my woodsmanship skills to the test. If I do my part and I put my wife and son consistently on deer, well that makes the season for me. I am to the point where I would rather see them have the successful hunt than myself. Neither has shot a buck yet so any buck taken they will be happy with as will I.
  7. nice my oldest is there, wife and I were at the George Thorogood concert a few weeks back. we have been to many rock concerts at tags, just don't go broke buying the beer...
  8. I got my archery and big game lifetime at 40 (7 years ago) and glad I did. wife got her lifetime archery then also. got to say it is nice having every thing mailed...
  9. Well guys I can't get the video to play
  10. Wife and I went to the range after dinner and she recorded me doing some load development.ran some loads over the chronograph. It was a good fathers day had my boys up for a good lunch and afternoon visit and wife and I had some fun at the range IMG_1717.mov
  11. And by the way the kid was the dick. Nothing worse than some know it all giving advice when no one asked..
  12. 10 to 40 yards I am pretty good from all the years of archery. I hunt with my super Redhawk so the farthest I shoot is 150, my loads are pretty warm so I don't have to compensate much. But I do have my range finder on me anytime I am hunting ..
  13. I had a 2000 Suzuki quad runner 250 2by4 that is now my sons. I had to use that machine to pull my truck out of the mud up to our lease one time. It also has bearclaws on the back, had the wife drop it in low range and it pulled my truck out. To say I was impressed with that little quad is a understatement.
  14. I agree 100%, the 400 kodiaks are about indestructible. They have enough power and torque to be a work horse and are fun to ride.
  15. Mine and the wife's 400 kodiak's . Photos are a before and after a trip to tall pines atv park in Andover. Her's is stock except a 1 mm shim in her primary sheave, mine has 1mm shim and a grizzly spring in the secondary drive and I went up a size in tires 26 inch bear claws . I know there's a atv section but figured there's more traffic in general .
  16. Scouted couple weekends ago and i will putting up 3 more ladder stands and moving 2. This will be my first year running cameras so next weekend I will be hanging cameras and ladder stands. Then once a month I will go and check and clear trails. And usually mid sept. I double check all my stands to make they are still safe.
  17. H and R 12 gauge single shot with no recoil pad shooting 3 inch turkey loads. after several shots to check pattern my shoulder was black and blue , I did kill a few birds with that old single though. funny thing is I can shoot 100's of full tilt rounds from my super red hawk 44 mag with a wood grip with no problems. funny how recoil affects people differently...
  18. before you get to excited will the bow fit you? what's your drawl length and will the bow adjust to your draw length? I hope it does because it would be great for you to shoot a deer with it...
  19. Nice, I like the blue black. I need to get me some more fletched up, I have been on a reloading kick lately and need to take a break and check the tune on mine, wife's and sons bows also.
  20. Myself, planing on setting up at least another 5 ladder stands( have 6 up now) have already moved 3 and planning to clear more trails . This will be our 3rd year on our 300 acre lease and I learned a ton about how the deer use the property last fall . Also will be running at least 3 cameras for now.we decided to skip spring turkey this year as we have a pretty decent flock . But we didn't see a lot of toms in our early scouting in April . So whatcha got planned ?
