I'm in the same boat... It is very frustrating. I haven't shot a buck in 3 years, I've let no less than a dozen 1.5yr old bucks walk in that time, I keep telling myself it'll pay off eventually. Its hard to let deer walk only to watch the neighbors kill them but the way I see it, if I kill them then they have 0 chance of making it. Plus its more gratifying now that I'm trying my hand at self filming to get good video and let them live. Almost like shooting them, just nothing to chew on later! Don't take this as a jab, but... 2-3" groups at 100 yds is impressive, I don't know you and haven't seen you shoot but, I can also shoot .5" 3 shot groups with one of my rifles off of a bench, put me in a tree stand wearing hunting clothes while its 10° and I can assure you my groups would not be even close to that. How do your groups change at 100yds from a treestand, being elevated, wearing a safety vest and 3 layers of clothing. We can all stand at a 3D range and report our best groups but its not practical in the field accuracy. Hell even the weather will affect a bows performance, you don't think your bow will perform a little different during the summer when its 75° versus 30° in the fall? If you arent going to do this often it would be easier to just pay a shop $1.50 a shaft to cut and glue your inserts. If you are... I would recommend buying an actual arrow saw, you can get them for around $100. The last thing you want is unsquare arrows, good luck spin testing those Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

I used to use the Winchester ballistic tips in my 30-06 but switched to a heavier constructed bullet. I killed 4 or 5 deer with them but did not get an exit hole on 2 of them at close range, All dead deer, I just prefer 2 holes in the event of a misplaced hit. Exactly... But the guys who take these shots aren't coming forward to say how many they've wounded or missed, only the recovered ones is what you'll hear about. Too many great guns available now it really depends what you're comfortable spending and how hung up you are on appearance... You can pick up a "utilitarian" Ruger american that'll do the job well or go on up to a 700 CDL or XBolt for twice the price and have an aesthetically appealing gun... This is just a cool idea for those of you that self film out of a climber. I found it online and decided to make one and I'm glad I did, its a 3 piece folding aluminum arm that stays permanently attached to your stand so no more lugging a camera arm around. It does not interfere with the stand whatsoever (packing it, carrying it). All for about $25 worth of materials. If you'd like detailed measurements/materials just let me know. I think you're missing my point. Everyone will screw up shots at game in their career regardless of skill and distance, it happens. As you said plenty do wound animals at 20 yards, so should we tell these people to go ahead and take those 50 yd shots because its the new "norm"? And yes if it were my decision I would say no shots over 40 regardless of how accurate you are. Shooting in your backyard while barbecuing is a lot different than being in a tree for 4 hours shooting in unorthodox positions. Less distance equals less risk. Period. Its not about bashing people who are great archers... Its about becoming proficient yet having the self restraint to limit yourself to high percentage shots. Period. I can tell you 1000 stories about how someone killed a deer at 60+ yards with a bow, I can tell you 10,000 of how someone missed or wounded deer at the same distance. We owe it to the quarry to dispatch them as quick and humane as possible. They are living creatures who feel pain, they have to live/die with that wound, we go about our lives with a story and move on unscathed...Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

Everyone's skill level is different as well as every situation. I won't shoot past 40 and I don't like to even do that. I shoot regularly at 70 and I feel I'm better than average, but the margin for error is small and I'm not going to lay in bed at night while a deer is out there suffering from a bad shot because I thought I might get lucky. I personally wouldn't care what he scored, too many people rate a buck based on score these days because they watch too many hunting shows on TV. If its a big buck I'm gonna try to kill him. Deer ears are generally very close to 7", with an average deer having 4" between the ears on the head. Its fair to say ear tip to ear tip is 18" on an average adult deer. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

Its difficult to say, he looks to be 18-19" wide and from what I could see an 8 pt... I wouldn't venture a score being that I can't even verify he has 8 points let alone how his tine length is... OK, so I just checked last years regulation book... The screenshot previously posted was in fact from the 14-15 season book. Therefore those regulations are now expired. If you harvest a deer in this years early season you will need to use this years archery tag. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

I have used a BAR Longtrac Stalker in 30-06 for 7 years now. Its a great semiauto, not much difference in weight between my bolt guns, never had an issue with cycling, shoots 1-1.5" groups with multiple types of ammunition, and its nice to look at to top it off. If you buy the cheap Remington rifles you are getting just that. Of all the "low end" rifles out there, Remington's are the worst in my opinion. Now having said that, their 700 line is great (not 770,783,710). Their semi autos have also been riddled with issues as of late. I've owned a lot of Remington's and sold hundreds in the 8 years I was in that business. Certain models are great, others are not at all... My opinion. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
