  1. It could be air trapped in your septic system since you just got it pumped. It may take a while to fill the void and push it all out.
  2. Now those are some nice stream browns for a first outing! Well done on taking a young man out for a guided trout stream adventure, one I'm sure he will never forget. It sounds like you both had a great time and the stream trout fishing seed was planted well! Were you fishing with worms as usual? and did the water have much color? Are fish of this size common there? I usually fish a small wild trout stream where a 12" is a nice one, but am exploring the Wiscoy this year and hope to land a 15" or better.
  3. I finally got out for a few hours yesterday after work and it sure was relaxing. The water was a bit clear for wild browns but the weather sure was nice and warm and I think the water warming up a little will get the trout more active too.
  4. I see them on Conesus lake occasionally. They sure are beautiful birds.
  5. I'd say 125 to 130. Find those sheds and we'll have a better idea! If he's still alive he'll be a beast in the fall.
  6. I'm betting this easterly weather flow has them shut down for a while. Next week looks better for catching fish, so I hope you can get back out there on them.
  7. I prefer to hunt from a pine or hemlock tree with branches near my platform. Hickory's and maples tend to branch out nicely too and provide cover to break up my outline as well as add a level of comfort and something to grab onto, or hang gear from. So my main choice is a light weight hang on. I have several that weigh 15 to 23 lbs and those I will place out prior to the season. I also have a few light weight ones that I can be more mobile with. The Mellenium M100 u is beauty that weighs 11.5 lbs and I plan to buy one soon.
  8. 2 life long hunting friends. We help each other with getting the game out as well as celebrating.
  9. I see the same thing. Most of the season I don't see mature bucks moving, but there are usually a few days in Oct and Nov where they will be up and on the hunt for does. Good advise is to be out on the best action days which can happen anytime really. But for the slow times....setting up in, or near thick cover where a big buck is holed up is good advice.
  10. I looked over some green fields this past Sat and found one from a year or two ago. Half plowed under. I've had a good shed season so far but not sure how much more I'll get out. I have some stand work to do next, as well as a few projects I'll be starting, and spring fishing looks to come early this year too.
  11. It seems like people leave them up year round to 'call' that particular spot. It's not a matter of them being really far off the road and a major pain to move, because I see them up close to the road, deep down in the park and everywhere in between.
  12. I put a lot of time in scouting and don't usually put up cams in an area where I want to place a stand. And I've been using trail cameras for about 10 years and I'm in a bit of a deer harvest drought at the same time, so I sure can't say it's helping me, lol.
  13. I've never spotted a shed with my binoculars until this evening. I had covered a couple miles of hedgerows and creek bottoms and it was getting dark. I decided to take a short cut and headed across a green field towards the truck, glassing anything that looked suspicious. I put the binos on this one at about 100 yards away and thought it was worth a closer look. I may have to head back and check the fields a little better in this area.
  14. Cool picture. man.... a deer has no privacy anymore! lol
  15. Does anyone remember the cold February and deep snow we had 2 winters ago? ( The average high in Feb was 12 F and we needed snow shoes to get around in the woods. ) It's hard to believe we are seeing high 50's mid 60's this Feb, with nightly lows above freezing in the forecast. It has to be throwing mother nature into a state of confusion, buds will be coming out ect. It's nice to have warm weather and everything, but it will most likely get really cold again, before our actual spring arrives.
  16. That 13 point head is quite the find!
  17. I looked for a few hours Saturday morning and found a small one. The bright sunny days are my least favorite shed hunting days, just too much glare. I'll check a few cams this week to see if they are still holding onto their crowns.
  18. They sure do become family. She was a very pretty girl. My condolences on your loss.
  19. Great photo's of a bird most never get to see. You captured the moment and it's the next best thing to being there. Thanks for sharing.
  20. I had to celebrate that one with a cold beer for sure! It has me gearing up to do some serious shed hunting in the weeks ahead.
  21. The rain let up this afternoon so I decided to take a walk, get some exercise and look around for sheds. I decided to look in an area where I had a trail cam set up last winter and it showed a few bucks passing through. I saw the first shed about 30 yards away and was surprised to find such a beauty. As I picked it up, the other side caught my eye as it was laying only 8ft away! This is a jackpot shed find for me. It's only the second time I've found both sides and my best pair to date. I also found the 4pt skull in some thick thorns. A lucky day for sure.
  22. When I check a cam and see a muddy nose smudge on it, I can usually count on a bear picture. The sure are curious and will give the camera a good sniff when they spot it.
  23. Could be a mountain lion. But getting pictures like this is one of the reasons I like my browning cams set to video. A 30 second clip with sound would have given us a lot more to look at.
  24. Looks like they are wintering in your area for sure! Great pics.
  25. I'd be setting up a low glow trail camera nearby to keep track of activity. Not too close to the den though, maybe 50' away.
