  1. Because they are nice to look at and it's neat when you do find one. I do a fair amount of shed hunting/scouting/hiking and am always on the lookout for antlers. I have a bunch of buck skulls that I've found over the years and I keep every one I find so I guess you could say I collect them. I also have several hanging on display on the side of my garage, in my garage and enjoy having them. Last year I found a 115" and boiled it down to hang. My largest is in the mid 130's. Like a picture or any type of art, antlers are nice to look at for some.
  2. Yeah, I won't complain about the warm weather. However........... I'd prefer cold temps with about 4 inches of fresh snow for a few days of muzzle season. Maybe next year!
  3. ncountry, I hope your hand heals quickly. Was this down in the park?
  4. Nov 3rd - 7th. I love hunting with a bow but with only 5 days to hunt I'd want to use a rifle to maximize my range. I'd want to be set up in tree stand that borders a brush lot and where other types of cover and food come together. A goldenrod/grass field and woods, within 100 yards of a freshly picked corn field. I'd hope for high barometric pressure and light winds. Once I shoot a nice buck in the first day or so, I'd switch to my bow or cap lock.
  5. Not knowing the real situation and just going by this story, I think the guy that shot it should have put in some more effort. Get some friends to help do a grid search after blood was lost or call in deer search. I'd be happy to find a skull like that and wouldn't be quick to give it away to someone who claimed they killed it.
  6. Thompson Center White Mountain 54 cal cap lock. Iron sights. 105 grains of Triple 7 pushing a lubed 425 grain Hornady Great Plains bullet.
  7. Nice light winds today, fairly cool start here 35 F A good day to be in the great outdoors.
  8. Outdoorstom, This is a family site. j/k Pretty rare trail cam photo I'd say.
  9. You should have invited them in for drinks.
  10. The heater body suit is what keeps me on stand all day with no issues. I still wear 2 layers of long johns, 3 layers of shirt and a light jacket, then tuck into the cacoon of the heater suit where I use the chemical toe warmers, hand warmers and a few warmers on my legs. My circulation is not what it used to be, but this keeps me hunting all day.
  11. Same here in 8M. I sat all day and saw a few deer but they seemed to be laying low today with the weather and there are few hunters out to get em stirred up. Very few shots heard in my neck of the woods. Every year it's less and less, but this year their seems to be a substantial drop in hunter numbers. The deer are here.
  12. LOL, life is short, play hard! Trail cams have to be one of the more fun things in life for sure. If I wasn't hunting today I'd be headed to Ollies for a few more.
  13. Happy Thanksgiving to all NY Hunting friends. Good luck today!
  14. I saw deer moving all day today, several doe fawn groups and saw 4 bucks all milling around them this afternoon. Tried to get a shot at the biggest one but it was too thick and he never stopped in the open and just too far to risk a walking shot.
  15. 35F and windy, sitting on the ground this am. Good luck to all on day 2 of the southern gun.
  16. I headed in at 4:20am, sat all day and didn't see a single deer for the first time since maybe ever. This is a spot I'd normally see at least 10 deer. Very few shots heard and others reporting the same. I think the deer were mostly bedded today. It sees as though day time movement has been very low here lately. I did see two bald eagles and also saw a bobcat messing with a flock of turkeys, but they didn't seem too worried about it.
  17. We all kind of knew, it was obvious. NICE deer, hope you get a crack at him!
  18. Same here with all the pick ups, trailers, with ATV's campers rolling in. I always get reved up on the opening eve of gun season.
  19. After a cold front passes and a few days of high pressure and a rising bp is best from what I've seen and read.
  20. I watch the weather and try to figure out which stand I'll use. Re wash all cloths. Shoot gun to make sure it's still on and practice some more. Make a list of things for backpack, check it twice. Thoughts of season's past are enjoyed. Hope for some good luck!
  21. I sat 2pm till dark last night in a funnel and didn't see a deer. I don't ever recall seeing so few during bow season and I put in a ton of time. Heading out at noon to check my opening day stand in Letch Park 2.5 miles down, should be good exercise.
  22. Hard to say what the antlers will do next year or the year after.
  23. Looks like I'll be 2.5 miles down on public land. In a tree near the river bottom, over looking somewhat open woods with tall grass. I sat there 3 years ago and saw a lot of deer.
