  1. Standing, they wont be cut this year, all for the deer and turkeys.
  2. Lookin out my kitchen window around 1230, had a real nice 8 or 9 cruising the back of my soybean field.
  3. Heres the official winners. Kinda stinks we had opportunities at a couple more fox and maybe a yote. Good times.
  4. Sorry no pics from the weigh in. We were the 2nd team there other team had a red and a gray fox. We went in to have a beer and watch the bills game, another teamed showed up with a yote and 4 fox i believe. When we came out to head home at half time all animals were picked up. Next up the big tourney in January, hopefully we get on some yotes before then.
  5. Well, it was good to be out last night. Especially trying out 2 new spots, but wow did the weather turn to crap. We started at my parents place with no luck. Then behind my house. Walking back we scared what i think was a fox outta the field. After 45 mins, walked over to my nieghbors field. Same, nothin...walking back to mine a fox ran across the path infront of us. After that we headed to a new spot i got the ok to hunt. Had eyes in the field as we were walking in, wind was blowing right to them. It took a little while to spook, but we couldnt get a ID on what it was. We didnt have the best setup there with the 3 of us, seeing the eyes right away we didnt get spread out like we wanted. So we decided to back out and come back later since the next field was only a mile away. That next field is a great spot, especially for the east wind we had. The 3 of spread out to cover the 3 adjoining fields there. 45 minutes of nothing. So we went back to the other field. As we were walking out, eyes in almost the same spot. It was a fox but slipped away as we decided to just get setup and call. 10 minutes into the calling i caught eyes crossing the field trying to get down wind of the call. They made it to the wood line and dissapeared. A couple minutes later my buddy signaled me he sees eyes, from my spot a rise was in the way so icouldnt see. Then i catch eyes just inside the wood line by myself and a friend. It was a fox and was working his way towards us. Told my buddy to take him. Im waiting while lighting it up so he can see it. The fox stops and...CLICK! Hes fumbling around with bullets...he never loaded the gun. I tell i got it and bang...flop. One male red fox on the board. Turns out my other friend believes he had a pair of yotes at the back of the field just wouldnt stop to give him a shot. We went to one other field after that and the wind and rain picked up more so we called it a night. Happy about the new spots i have access to. But now time to get outta bed, didnt get home till 3am. Will be at the weigh in at 1. Will post pics then.
  6. Crossbows belong no were near MY archery season...
  7. 25 minutes after i came in last night this guy walks by. Still not hitting the bait, but cruising around.
  8. I know a guy in batavia that does beetles. Pm for his info if u want.
  9. Went out for a quick sit to watch over the bait pile. Just brought a rabbit in distress hand call out. Ended up calling in 2 red fox. Season dont start for them until friday. Nice night.
  10. Just got back checkin out a couple new fields i got permission to yote hunt this year. Very excited for the one, 3 big fields seperated by thin hedgerows, with a swamp less than 100 yards in. This saturday is goin to be crazy. Goin to be hunting from dusk till dawn sunday morning probably. We have fields to hunt from lancaster, corfu, alexander, darien, bennington, and north java. Weigh in for the predator mini slam is sunday at 1pm at franklinville conservation club. Should be a great time.
  11. It is a beast, it will make top 10 in ny. Kinda crazy it was a 18 yr old... looking at my biggest buck on the wall which is 131" its crazy to imagine 50 more inches of antler.
  12. Well i wont be home at lunch, and dinner is already prepped...so i had to fry up the squirrels i got the other day.
  13. This is 15 yards from my favorite stand. Fellow predators sharing hunting spots...and my bucks remains with 2 wooden stakes through the rib cage to hopefully keep them from dragging it away. Contest this weekend, but may go out tonight to see if i can a shot at 1...or 2.
  14. Nervous probably not, akward feeling when your under them with a bottle encouraging them to go...probably.
  15. Went lookin for the other half of my arrow. Found it about 10-15 yards down his path. Have an app that will trace distance walked, from shot to dead deer he went 70 yards. Shot was 30 yards. Skinned, quartered and in the frindge.
  16. After being out way too late playing euchre with a bunch of buddies saturday night (i know wild saturday...god i feel old) waking up sunday was brutal. Brother in law showed up at 615 and off to the woods we go. I give him first choice on stands he picked a stand no one has sat this year, i took my favorite "swamp" stand. This is the 5th deer ive shot out of it in 3 years during archery. Anyhoo, early on he txts me theres a small buck walking down the path to me. Get my phone ready to video the beast. He did not disappoint, tiny spikes may not have made the 3" mark. He fed his way from down wind of me to up wind were i have a mock scrape set up. Got to watch him use the licking branch and off he went back behind me on my right. 15 minutes later i see a larger spike back were the little guy went, this guys spikes are slightly taller than his ears. Then a hour of no movement, at 905ish i hear some twigs snapping from behind over my right shoulder and see a doe and 2 fawns or 2 doe and a fawn. Never had a chance to get a good look at them all because a second later all hell breaks loose and a grunting maniac comes flying in after the doe and they all scatter. The glimpse i got of him told me he was good enough to warrant a shot. The doe came busting out of the brush and seconds later he came walking out. He was slightly quartering away at around 30 yards. Drew my bow and had the dot behind the shoulder as he walked. Hit the realse and saw the impact mid body arrow was in up to the nock...FU#K... when i hit the realse i stopped moving with him, first dumb move of my day. Called my bil and we sat for 20 more minutes, i climbed down checked a trail camera near by and we walked out away from the hit sight. I figured liver and was hoping it made it to 1 lung. Brother in law went home, we had a meeting with a finacial guy. After our meeting i took my son back to go look. It had been 2.5 hrs from.the hit. Looked around at were i thought he was standing and couldnt find anything. Couldnt find sign of anything, so i went walking in the direction i believed the buck went. I could not find any sign of deer. At this point im very down on myself and just rushing through the whole search process hoping i just stumble upon sign 2nd dumb mistake of the day. My son yells to me he found hair, i head over and yep hair. I look for a few seconds and start slowly walking in the direction i think he went...im not getting any smarter here folks...cant find anything so i start calling deer search numbers and leave messages with a couple guys. We head in to go get pumpkins, bil and family were coming over for dinner so i knew i had more eyes coming later. After dinner we are watching some football, at this point i was contacted by a deer search guy and he would be coming put that night. Im content with that, my bil wants to go look. So a 615 we head out to look. We walk around were i thought the buck was standing...nothing, i take him to the hair which is maybe 15 feet away. We look around there carefully for a few minutes and boom, he finds a drop of blood. We are now finding specs every few feet. Very slow going (the way i should have been going the whole time!) Its now dark in the woods so flashlights and we r doin ok finding blood every few minutes, we hit a few spots were it takes awhile, one guy stays at ladt blood the other moves ahead. We eventually find the back half of my arrow. 15ft ahead it appears to buck makes a 90* turn. Bloid gets better spots the size of a baseball, then another, and another. Shine my light ahead and we are lookin at a white belly. Dead in his first bed. Lessons learned here, first no matter how long you have been hunting TAKE YOUR TIME ON THE TRACK! As soon as i couldnt find blood were i believed the deer had been, i started heading in the direction i thought it went. At the spot of hair, if i was facing 12:00, i belived he went towards 11 oclock. In reality he went to 2 oclock. So as i was going i was getting progressively farther from the deer. I was dead set on checking the area i thought he went, after finding no sign of a hit deer i shouldve been checking in other directions. It really comes down to just taking your time, and maybe what u think you saw, well maybe it happened a little differently. Im 36 years old, been bow hunting for 22 years... the saying "never stop learning" comes to mind.
  17. Found my buck, no deer sesrch was needed. Im just dumb sometimes, ill explain more tomorrow. Exhausted now but thanks for the well wishes. Hit right were i thought, liver. Went 100-125 yards. 9pt 2.5 yr old.
  18. Well ill post up... Hit a buck at 910 this a.m. sat till 930 and walked out. Hit was back like liver maybe back of liver intestine area but slight quartered towards the chest. Arrow was in the deer up to the nock. Came back out at 1130 to look around. I can not find a spec of blood anywere. Ill post a grid on a deer pic. Id say D9,S10 line. Did about a 100, 150 yard grid cant find anything. Backed out again. I have a call into deer search. If i dint here back i have my father and 2 buddies coming at 5pm to go search again. I know its gonna die, just dont know were or when.
  19. Not enough sleep but o well, awake now. Maybe ill sit in a two person so i can lay down...
