  1. Well, as soon as the weather co-operates I'll be out working up a good turkey load for the 16 Ga., It takes a pretty fair amount of tweaking and adjusting the ratio of powder, shot, and the configuration of the shot column to get a pattern out to thirty yards that you can count on, I've jug choked a couple with great success out to forty yards, but this one I'm leaving it as it is, no choke. I'm confident I'll get there. Next up will be my 24 Ga.. Robby English style sporting fowler, 16 Ga.
  2. Wow!!!! That is awesome Four Seasons, I'm thinking a lot of good times there!!!! Robby
  3. My first reaction to this is that I should be allowed to hunt with a rifle. But then, my self imposed restriction, nothing ever .36, .40, probably would be met with, but, but, but, then we should all be able to rifled up! Robby
  4. I have almost perfect turkey habitat right out the back doo, in the last ten years I would say the population is less than half what it was. Too many birds of prey, coyotes, and all the fur bearing animals no one is trapping these days, they're all nest raiders! It has made hunting more of a challenge and even more exciting the you ask, 'you talk'n to me?'. Robby
  5. I rolled that over for ya Green, Got a terrible crick in my neck today. Robby
  6. For me this is a pretty involved process, and this year even more so because I have finished two guns for just this purpose, a 24Ga. and a 16Ga., neither has been patterned yet. Heck, half the fun is tuning up a new gun and maybe making a new box call, or even a new slate call. Robby
  7. https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gear-gun-supplies/ammunition-ammo-for-hunting-shooting-sports/rifle-ammo-hunting-shooting-sports/rifle-ammo/c/cat-300-savage-ammo https://ammoseek.com/ammo/300-savage A quick search led me to many sites, with ammoseek you can do a quick check of many sites and see who has it in stock. Course with NY stupid effing laws, you have to jump through hoops to get it. Maybe try local gun shops and ask them to order it in for you. Seems like that would be your best bet. Good Luck, its a great gun!!! Robby
  8. Yep, aging is the key to making a deer moor tender and flavorful. Robby
  9. My goodness!!!! This sure brought out the opinionists. Without reading all the responses, and not giving it much thought before typing, my first reaction is that I am so sick of more and more laws and regulations roping people in and roping people out. Being that I prefer to become adept with and hunt with what some might call primitive weaponry, I guess I would like it best if they further restricted the existing muzzleloader season to matchlock's, wheel lock's, flintlocks', and those cap lock's as found before the twentieth century. But, solely hunting with a archery equipment that I made myself right down to the arrow shaft and broadhead for years before I took up muzzleloading, I was still, against those that wanted to ban the compound bow, wanted to ban the release device, and later wanted to ban the crossbow. To me, if a man wants to hunt with a rock, I say as long as he is well practiced with it, have at it. Years ago there were those, and many of those, that wanted to restrict the regular deer season to single shot shotguns, and yet look what we have now. We have more and better technology in making the taking of wild game easier and more efficient, yet I don't think the success rate has grown all that much. So I guess, to me anyway, I have always thought people should work on their hunting skill's, as opposed to working overtime to afford the latest and greatest in game taking. Bottom line? I have no answer, the decisions for such a thing will be made on the basis of things that have very little to do with hunting and game management, cuz, this is a city run state and we have little to say on how things are done in any respect. What is this Republic I hear spoken of. Robby
