    How does this sound folks.

I did my own research on this and have come up with my own peak breeding day and best time to be in the woods. Here's how I figured it and plan to bow hunt accordingly this year. Hope this helps someone else in their plans.

Whitetail doe in NY State give birth between Late May through Mid June... therefore I used May 25 through June 15 as my range. That's 22 days from the earliest birth to the latest for what we all call the main rut where 90% of all doe will be bred. Gestation in NY State is 201 days.

Using a 2017 calendar I used June 4, 2017 as the mid way date and I counted back 201 days to November 15, 2016 as the peak breeding date. Therefore counting back 10 days when the first of the doe should be ready to be bred would be November 5th and counting forward to the 26th when the last doe would be bred. Therefore November 5th through November 26, 2016 should be the breeding season this year.

So like every year in my book - October 30 is the date to start spending more time in the stands.  I plan to take off the week of Nov 7 -11 when all the boys should be on their feet.

That is sort of what i think too, but of course it could be effected by weather, with abnormal above or below average temps could cause the peak of rut to be a week or 2 later with warm temps or earlier with cooler temps, i have always noticed it is between 45-55 degrees when i see deer most active. But i don't put too much thought into it i just get out as much as possible during the season and prepare for anything.

  2. I've been looking at the past Deer Harvest Summary and seems like harvest numbers are down all across the state, i haven't noticed much of a drop in population in my area 7A if any at all, wondering if anyone has seen a decrease in their area? and does it look better this year?

I think you hit the nail on the head,

    1. lead is harmful,,,,, we can agree on that

    2. can  cause brain damage, lower IQ ,, that's the catch, it may or can

    3. so, I think most hunters have had the opportunity to be affected by lead.

look at this from the CDC that has been posted before"While there is no known endogenous role for lead, and no known level of exposure that is without effect, the variety of standards and guidelines acknowledges that some exposure to lead is unavoidable." from:http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/hac/pha/LeadFragmentsinVenison/Venison%20and%20Lead%20HC%20110408.pdf

I'm not even going to bother reading that, obviously you didn't realize i have no intent to even take this topic seriously...

But on a serious note, Lead has been used for many centuries, before Liberal and Green logic was even thought of, so i'll continue to buy the cheapest lead ammo and live my life like i have.

Curious as why no rubber boots ? Where I hunt I have to cross a small trout stream so rubber a must. Lacrosse uninsulated in warm weather and warmer Muck boots for colder temps. I've never worn anything else. What am I missing out on ? Rubber tend to be more scent free , easy on , easy off , tuck my pants in them and I'm off. Just curious

I've had heal rubbing issues with Rubber boots in the past, but that could be just cause of the boot maker... also made my feet sweat a lot when stalk hunting and they were heavy walking around in, i mostly hunt hilly terrain with not much creeks or swaps but occasionally wet grass, just looking for something light, flexible and waterproof.

We clearly need a fantasy league, If I said it up can we get 12?

    I'm in if that happens.

And for Cowboys sake they should start Dak Prescott, he's a hopeful Qb for them, also Alfred Morris should take start not Ezekiel Elliot, dont think Zeke is as good as everybody hopes he is.

  8. This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard, the Village idiots and Gov idiots really are stupid, they complain about bow hunters letting the deer suffer so they decide to allow gun hunters? Thats more disturbing for the residents near by than the deer suffering that cause accidents and destruction in the first place, feel bad for those bow hunter who practiced for these idiots to hunt the deer and now wont even be allowed to do so.

  9. How did you know it was a good shot if you lost it?

I stated what i said wrong, I meant I've had good shots on deer that ran pretty far and have had deer lost but with good mounts of blood, in reply to FastEddie any caliber could kill a deer with perfect shot placement and even a shotgun with sufficient power could still lose a deer with bad placed shot.

  10. To be honest i can get good grouping with my shotgun up to 70 yards and I've lost deer with good shots and lots of blood and you cant get much more power than a shotgun

  11. I can agree with several of those but how in the world did Altmar not make the list? How about Red Creek? Roscoe or Livingston Manor?

Isn't #4 Albion Altmar? they just change it to Albion right.

Never mind just searched google map after i posted and see there are two Albions, but yea Altmar or Orwell should have been in there, almost any city could be redneck lol.

  12. How far are you willing to go with that philosophy. A .22 Hornet is also legal for deer in NYS. Would you advise someone to "continue using it if that is the caliber you prefer"? I think I would be tempted to speak up and try to talk them out of that one....lol. It probably would still be a good idea to take the issue to Albany as well. Frankly, I believe they blew it, but that still does not absolve the hunter from using a bit of common sense when it comes to caliber selection.

I agree its not a wise choice to use .22 Hornet or .223 but even after all the agree to disagree the law is there to protect anyone who wants to use any size centerfire caliber they want and nothing will stop that.

  13. A .223 is not the ideal choice i would use, I'm not going to say that DEC is the brightest bunch on the block (they aren't) but it is legal to use a .223 in New York for Big Game Hunting and until other wise i'd continue using it if that is the caliber you prefer, anybody against using a .223 should take it to Albany.

  14. Generalization of both sides is why this feud never ends, i'd like to get into bow hunting but don't have money, time or property to do so, with the short mount of time and the cost of my 250$ Mossberg i found it convenient to hunt with a gun, wish nothing more than happy hunting to all hunters alike.

  15. I wonder if the punks vandalized the neighbor's property too or is the neighbor the one who committed the vandalism, do you know the neighbor? what type of person are they? Sneak over there one night undetected and see if you spot an ATV and compare tire tracks if they match, put it this way when they use the ATV again they'll need to get a few new tires. Police wont do shit, you have no solid proof.

  16. Foam hen decoys are good to add in to a flock the foam jake is garbage looks like a hen but smaller with a red neck, I like the H.S Snood Decoys great detail and 50% less than Dave Smith or Avian Decoys, i'm still unsure about how the Tom decoys work i've never killed a turkey using one and never had one come to it maybe it scares them idk it may work for you though, i also have a Cherokee Sports feeding hen decoy pretty realstic for the cost (12$).
