  1. The other day I was in my stand and some deer snuck in behind me and just as I was about to check them out they start racing around, zigzagging back and forth over a football sized area in the woods. One going in one direction, the other opposite and so on. I couldn't even keep track of them. So just a group of teenagers with too much energy? Never seen that before, mist have lasted a few minutes maybe.
  2. I am excited to report my harvest of a doe. So excited that I didn't take a picture until I was skinning her. You will have to excuse that,it was getting dark when I found her and then I had to rush to pick up my wife.
  3. Thanks Bionic. Taylormike, I was very happy with the shot. She was sightly quartering away a only 9 yds from the stand. Pretty steep angle, but I hit the upper third of the ribcage little back of center and the exit hole was just behind the front shoulder towards the bottom of the ribcage. The arrow hit the top of the leg and broke it,so it didn't pass completely through and she broke the tip of on a tree. I found the back third in the chest cavity. She expired quickly. All good.
  4. I shot a doe tonight. I was right,my stand is an evening stand. She came out at 6.21. I think it is one of the ones that eats my wifes flowers. 12 yd shot, she went maybe 80 yds. Only my 2nd deer with a bow, guess who is excited.
  5. Boxers? Let me know how that works for you. I am waiting for something, sun just went down behind the hill. I am not too picky, any big doe or buck will do.
  6. I got mine last Friday. Busy filling it out now...This is my first year as well.
  7. Well,I am back in the stand. Only have till 8 a.m.,so stayed close to the house. I think of this stand as an evening stand and it seems I am right. There are tons of geese in the swamp below me and they are going nuts!
  8. How did you miss the shoulder blade on that shot? The entry hole looks like it is right on it.
  9. A friend of mine found some big rubs last weekend, seems like the boys are getting ready, and some of the girls probaly too, they just play hard to get though...
  10. Wow,did I have an evening. So, at some point I hear noise behind me and a fawn starts running down the hill. Then comes another and a third deer, and they are chasing each other back and forth all around me. Then two more join the fun,and then they all disappear before I get a shot. Then I am almost ready to climb down and a doe walks up. I get to full draw and am just about ready to put her down, only 13 yds away. Now her fawn steps right in front of her vitals. I wait and she takes two steps, about ready for this shot and the fawn catches up again. After that no more shooting lanes for me. She got lucky tonight, next time will be the end of her...
  11. Good call rockspeck. I am in the stand as well, you have to be to shoot something. Nothing but blue Jays so far, waiting for the sun to drop behind my hill.
  12. Looks like temperatures are going to drop to 50s during the day and 30s at night next week. I will try to wait till then to go out some more, give a few of my stands some rest. Season is still young,it is just so hard to not go out...
  13. I was hunting in 4F on the opener in the a.m. for two hours and p.m.for two. Saw a buck in the a.m. that I just grazed,he should have been dead, was an easy shot but my nerves made me forget some fundamentals. The p.m. sit showed three does, they appeared out of nowhere and snuck diagonally to the right behind me,so no shot there. A friend sat about the same times and saw nothing in the a.m. and 6 deer in the p.m. They are out and about, and I also see some mid day when I am driving my truck.
  14. I saw a doe and two fawns. Once the doe got downwind of me she got pretty worked up. I had no shot at her,but she almost walked back into one of my shooting lanes to try to figure out where I was. She never quite made me,that's good. Will rest that stand fir a while though.

  16. Somebody needs to see somethinh besides squirrels,we are after bigger game now, right?
  17. Sitting an oak tree at a corner of a field and the acorns are dropping. I think one of the squirrels actually tried to hit me on the head. That punk. It is filthy with them here and chipmunks loke crazy as well. But where are the deer? It is so warm and cozy I might just fall asleep in this tree...

  19. Going out right below my house until 8a.m. Hope to see one of the does that has been eating my wife's flowers.
  20. I got my first doe ever with the bow last year stalking. Would not keep an arrow knocked until you need it. I was on my way to my stand when I saw two doe in a field headed for the woods,so I teied to cut them off. Did not get close enough to shoot, was maybe 35 yds away, then one wanders off a little ways and beds down. Then I was able to close the distance.. That day was windy and ground was wet, perfect conditions for a stalk.
  21. I am at edge of field, but there are acorns too. The squirrels are making it rain,no deer yet though.
  22. hmm, grampy,I was going to sit at a field edge, but maybe I will head for the oaks too. Decisions decisions...

  24. Shot at a decent 6 and just grazed him. Must have been buck fever, too bad. Looked for a long time, lots of brown hair and no blood. Hope he will be alright.
