  1. I am betting you hit the artery he is bled out and dead if that is the case. My buddy hit back straps on several occasions but not nearly that much blood. and he was using the rage 2.5" He left some serious holes in that deer with minimal blood.

  2. I shot a nice 10 point with a nocturnal at 50 yards, it seemed like it took forever to get there. Watching that arrow stick right behind the shoulder was a great feeling. I would not have been able to see that arrow at that distance hit the animal.

  3. There are quite a few, but the erwin forest is huge and if you get there early enough and push back in you can get some premo spots.

  4. Thing is you aren't kidding, are you  ^_^

haha He has seen some of my trail cam photos over on LOU, We have had some dandys on our property over the years. The one in my avatar/profile photo is from our property.  Got him during gun but still a nice deer.

here are a few, 4th one down was 8X and 6th one down was 6G

  5. Well  my Daughter had her little girl yesterday evening , she is a little one alright ... 4 pounds 15 ounces !  The Grandmothers are all desperately waiting to spoil her and I'm thinking "  Hmmm Lifetime License "  !  Am I being selfish ... LOL

Congrats, My little guy will be getting a lifetime next year. I am thinking grandpa and great grandpa will end up buying it as my dad and grandpa bought mine.

  6. Never had an issue with my .270 or .243 shooting cor-lokts I also never shoot ammo older than 1 year old on game. I reload almost exclusively now and label all boxes as to when they were reloaded or bought.  I always use my oldest ammo up first. Range ammo is the older stuff just to plink or sight in then 1 shot with new/reloads to make sure they hit the same.

I shoot a Tikka T3 (.270) and Remington 770 (.243). The 770 was half the cost of theTikka not including the glass and shoots just as good. The Cor-lokts gave me my tightest group out of the .270 but the superformance shot best out of the .243.  My reloads for the .270 are noslers with superformance powder

    .270 was all 130gr.

    .243 was all 90gr.

  7. You dropped your bow arm and peaked.

It happens many times a year, trust me............................BTDT

This^^ I have a bad habit of this when practicing lots of shots. I start to get tired and begin hitting 4" or 5" low.

  8. What WMU area will you most likely be hunting? That can help us give you solid answers.

Your tag that reads Bow/Muzzleloader is an either sex tag.  This allows you to shoot a buck or doe, but only one.  I have more doe running around than bucks so if I don't have a doe tag I wait to see if I can arrow a nice buck before I use it on a doe.

When I go into the woods I take a cushion, hot hands, matches, my deer drag (short piece of rope), bow holder, saw, knife, gutting gloves, extra haul line. Those are my essentials, I don't normally carry extra clothes on person but have some in the vehicle I drive.

State land is a first come first served, no need to call anyone you just go. I would highly recommend if you are considering a large forested area to have a map and compass, also tell someone where you are planning on hunting in-case something happens.  Do your homework ahead of time looking at the geography so if you get turned around you have an idea of which way you have to go to get back home.

Scent wise I just recommend hunting the wind. In other words if the game will be coming from the north and you have a south wind (your scent will be blowing right to the deer) setup away from their path but close enough to get a shot. Also look for areas that are natural funnels. These could be steep ravines with only 1 crossing spot, where hedgerows meet just before they go into a large set of woods, field lines with oak trees (the ones that have acorns), apple trees, or hickory (have golfball sized nuts that fall and break open in wedges). Other good areas to hunt are on edges of thick pines with a heavily traveled trail coming out of it.

Sorry for being so long winded but as you can probably tell there is a lot to hunting these elusive animals.

  9. I have never really still hunted with a bow but 2 of the 4 deer I have taken with a bow including the 130" 10 point I got last year were from the ground. Don't be afraid to setup somewhere with a shooting lane within your comfortable bow range from this beaten down path you have found and wait it out for that last hour of darkness. I like to find a spot between 2 large trees when hunting from the ground so I am semi camouflaged from each angle they might be coming down a trail. Practice from sitting and kneeling positions if you do this.

    Hey you look familiar.

Still hunting with a bow is tough stuff I started that way about a week later I hung my first stand. I also had a tough time estimating yardage. The first deer I shot at went right under his belly, thought it was 30 yards and ended up being 40.  Estimating in the woods is much much harder than in your backyard or at the range. I ended up pacing out 3 trees and wrapping them with survey tape. This was before I could afford to buy a rangefinder let alone knew what one was.

  10. Figured I would introduce myself, been on other hunting sites but they are becoming to congested with too many folks and way too much bickering over stupid crap. I hunt 8F, 8X, 8T, 8N and 6G.  I also own a camp/cottage up towards the St. Lawrence on Chaumont Bay. That is were I spend most of my summer fishing (perks of being a teacher).

    So hello to everyone.
