After 15 months, I finally got my NYS pistol permit from Erie county. One think I am very happy about is that it's Unrestricted. Now I need to go through the process of getting back my old pistol (CZ 75D PCR) and getting reacquainted with it at the range. I've gone to Niagara gun range in the past to sight in my long guns, but want to check out Wolcott's in Lancaster as well. Anyone have any recommendations for Erie or Niagara county gun ranges or instructors?

OK, this is going to be a long one. Four weeks ago, I walk into the garage and there is a pool of fluid by the front right tire. Axle leak. Bring in to Landpro, which recently took over the JD dealership in Niagara Falls. They only have one mechanic, so it takes almost 3 weeks before it's looked at. Once they start to take the front axle apart they realize that the left axle seals/whatever need to be done, too, and possibly the gearbox/pumpkin in the middle of the front axle. [I'm not a mechanic, so I might not be saying the parts exactly right.) Ryan, the service manager, says once we take it apart we will know better if the gearbox needs to be replaced. He says it will cost about ~$800 for both axles and ~$1,300 if they change the gearbox, too. I tell him OK, do what you gotta do. Last Wednesday I call to see how it's going. Ryan the service manager is gone, working at a new job, and the mechanic is out for a personal matter. The guy at the desk doesn't know what the status of my repair is, only that the mechanic has logged several hours on it. Friday midday I get a call, I'm told the mechanic came in for a half day and finished up my tractor. Great. I go to pick it up. Guy at counter tells me total is $700. I pay him. He then gives me a printout of the invoice/receipt. On it, in the notes it says: "customer not fixing the way it should be fixed. he says cause of costs, so axle could still leak." I flip out on the guy. That's not true. I never said that. No one told me that. So apparently Ryan, the former service manager didn't think changing the gearbox was necessary, but the mechanic did. So I ask the guy if I bring it back to get the gearbox changed, how much will it cost? He says they have to take it all apart again, so $1,300 additional. I say no, it shouldn't cost me more than $1,300 TOTAL, counting the $700 I already paid. He says he needs to get back to me on that. I also asked him to call Ryan and get his version on what repairs were needed. So I'm kind of screwed in that I can't get a straight answer from the dealer if the gearbox needs to be changed, and if it does, the $700 I already paid is wasted. Update: I spoke to the new manager at the location this afternoon. He says he spoke to the old manager and they both agree that the leak that the tractor was brought in for was repaired and is covered with a 90 warranty if it leaks again. The mechanic did suggest changing the gear box housing and maybe some ball bearings (I have no idea what's inside the pumpkin and what may have already been replaced inside it.) but that is a preventative recommendation. It doesn't sound like they ever spoke to Ryan, the former service manager, fwiw. He also is going to mail me a new invoice/receipt with the mechanic's notes taken out. (That they would give a customer a receipt with notes like that written on it is an issue unto itself.) So at this point, I think I just keep an eye on it. If it does leak again over the next 90 days, I take it in under warranty. If the gearbox is leaking or something else breaks, I think I will take it to Drake's in Clarance, another JD dealer. Extremely aggravating experience with Landpro. So anyone know anything about front axle leaks and gearboxes/pumpkins? Anyone have any experience with Landpro or Drake's?

Happy Birthday. Have a great day.

as a practical matter, it's hard to install longs lengths of planks, anyway, so if you are doing multiple rooms, may as well put in a T moulding. As well, if you decide to change a room, each room has it's own self contained flooring.

Is it impolite to shoot your nieces pit bull ?

That situation sounds like a tragedy just waiting to happen. -

Surprised no one has shared any chipmunk recipes yet.

So our backyard is wild kingdom this year with rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels. Mrs. Goose read about the horrors of chipmunks and the damage they do, and decreed that we must get rid of them. She bought two small havahart traps and put me to work. This morning we got two squirrels who got a free meal of peanut butter and sunflower seeds. They were released within 15 minutes of capture. They weren't too happy about the cage. This evening our luck was better--two chipmunks. We drove to a field about 2 miles away and released them. Hopefully they won't come back. How many more we need to relocate? I have no idea. Shame it's not squirrel season . . . .

Just added: who has the wider driveway competition.

Maybe we could organize a HuntingNY tractor pull and competition. Whose tractor can mow the fastest, etc.

I'll be up in Porter using my small hydro next month. You are welcome to come play with it. Will be brushhogging and discing, moving loads of dirt with the bucket.

You inspired me, Jeremy. I got this at Runnings for $10. If you go Friday or Saturday, 15% off bucket sale.

http://larosegardencenter.com My wife yelled at me for telling you. She's worried you're going to get them all before she does next year.

We had great sugar snap peas this year. Already harvested. Got them at a little family nursery on rt 104 about a mile west of Wright's Corner ( rt 78) in Lockport.

In the past I looked for a cheap red light headlamp and the best I could find was one that's meant for behind a bicycle seat. Still haven't figured out how to attach it to an elastic strap to go around my head. For flashlights, I prefer to get it straight from the source (China) via Ebay or aliexpress, than pay retail. You don't need a lot of lumens, just enough to see where you're walking. This one is interesting for $9. it has two buttons, one to control the red light, other for white light. Can even do red and white light at the same time. I also like that it is regular batteries instead of rechargeable.I might try this one out. (You might say I have a flashlight fetish, if you ever saw my collection.) https://www.ebay.com/itm/ZUKVYE-inclu-Flashlight-Cree-LED-Headlamp-with-Red-Waterproof-Head-Light-for-R/223540336903?hash=item340c0ad907:g:N2UAAOSwjuRc9hvd

I hope you guys don't mind this random question, but I figured this would be the best thread to ask it in. It's really strange because I thought of this while trying to fall asleep the other night. Has anyone experimented with combining sous vide and smoking? ( @turkeyfeathers?) Something like instead of smoking the meat for say 12 hours, you sous vide it for 24 hours (with the rub spices on it) and then just smoke it for just 6 hours. I'm wondering if you would get less shrinkage/higher yield of the end product. There is the issue of what to do with the "juice" inside the bag from the sous vide cooking. Maybe add it back after the meat is sliced? If this post is too out of left field, feel free to ignore.

TF, I think you might be confusing ignition sources with tinder sources. (This may not be 100% correct, but I'm no scientist, either.) To start a fire, you need an ignition source like a spark or a flame to light tinder, something that easily catches fire from the ignition source. You should have three different ignition sources for redundancy, e.g., lighter, strike-anywhere matches and a ferro rod. You should have enough tinder to start a few fires (or find/make your own in the woods). This could be vaseline covered cotton balls, magnesium shavings, fatwood, birch bark, dryer lint, et al.

You've made your thoughts very clear. You took the time to put some thought into what you wrote, which I respect and appreciate. You had a much longer history with her than I did. I can't dispute anything you've stated. That really is all there is to it. I would say one thing, regardless of who or what was to blame (if anyone/anything), I think it is unfortunate that she is no longer a member of the forum.

Semantics, Belo. After they way she was harassed, why would she not want to leave? She was many things, but masochistic was not one of them. I find it interesting that you felt the need to justify yourself when you weren't specifically mentioned. You developing a guilty conscious or something? (Ha, ha. Just kidding. As if . . . .) Stormy is a troll, or worse, who feeds off of the attention. That's why he's still here. I would think that you would have figured that out by now. Anyway, it is what it is. That's the way things are on an internet forum sometimes. I'm not interested in rehashing old battles.

OK. My mistake.

My god, Jeremy, she was run off the board over two years ago, and you still feel the need to make her the butt of your jokes?

well that's disappointing. thanks.

Yes, I've seen this page. Thank you. Was just hoping for the comparative / relative commentary. I suppose I could try to figure that out myself, but given Wolc's grasp of the key issues, I thought I'd ask him for his thoughts.
