  1. Man, that thing should be pulling Santa's sleigh!!
  2. For me there is no comparison, I love bow hunting! Where I hunt I just see so many more deer during bow season, especially bucks. I took a nice 7 point during bow this year. On Saturday (opening day) I saw 14 doe but not one buck. Once the shooting starts the bucks seem to go underground. During gun season I have all kinds of problems with people trespassing on my proprety, but during bow I have the place all to myself (at least as far as I know) So bow gets my vote every time!
  3. The blind didn't blow away. It was tied down very well in a stand of pines and survived the winds from Sandy just fine. Sounds like many folks have had some similar experiences. Sad
  4. So yesterday I go to take down my ground blind (I only use it during bow season) and some no good scum took it! It was on my property which is clearly posted. I just can't imagine taking someone else's stand. The blind was a Christmas gift from my wife so hurts even worse. A real man would never do something like this.
  5. Went out yesterday afternoon for only the 3rd time this year. Didn't go out the week before because of the high winds from Sandy. I knew it was going to be a good day, because as I was going to my stand in the winter wheat field there were seven turkeys and a deer. I was in my stand about 10 min when I saw one of the turkeys. They always say that where there are turkey the deer will be around. Sure enough about 5min after the turkey goes by here comes a doe about 40 yds out. About 5 min later a nice 6 point comes in from behind me looking for that doe. He walks right under my stand but instead of turning to his right (which would have put him broadside) he walks straight away, so not a good shot. He goes after her (but she is not interested). About 2 min later there is a little 4 point right undert my stand. He is to small so just let him pass. The six pointer is chasing the doe around about 80 yards to my right. Another doe and her button buck fawn show up about 30 yards out. Not more than 5min later a really nice buck comes from behind me, I turn and draw and as he walks behind me I get so nervous that my arrow falls off the rest. I guess we are never to old for buck fever! He goes right toward the doe but she runs off. The button buck stays right under me just eating away. I keep thinking that moma is going to come back for him. Sure enough about 10 min later the doe is back and the buck right behind her. She comes right toward me and looks up. She can't figure out what I am so after 2 or 3 minutes goes broad side about 20 yards. The buck is right behind her, I draw and let it fly. I hit him high in the sholder (the arrow was still in him). I hear him about 30 yards from my stand thrashing around and grunting. I know it was not my best shot so I stay in my stand till well after dark. Then I sneak out and am thinking I should wait till morning. Well hind sight being 20/20 I should have gone after him last night. I found him this morning right where I thought he would be, I think he was dead within 20 min of my hitting him. The good news is I found him the bad news is the coyotes got to his hind quarters. I think i can slavage some of it but should have gone in last night. I guess we live in learn, I was so afraid of pushing him that I waited to long. Still a very nice deer. My nicest so far with a bow.
  6. Nice buck. I started bow hunting 3 years ago, nothing like it!
  7. Saw a 4pt chasing a doe this evening. She wanted nothing to do with him. Just before dark there was a buck behind me grunting like crazy. Lasted about 5 min, never did get a look at him.
  8. Went out tonight for only the third time this season. Had a feeling that they are starting to move. On my stand for about 1 hr when a little 4pt comes down through my clover plot and stops broadside about 12 yards away. He is too small so just watch him and he keeps looking behind him. So I turn my head and here comes a nice 6 pt and a huge 10pt. They put their heads down and do a little sparing, the little 4 pt runs off with his tail between his legs. The 10 point goes into the thick stuff behind me about 15 yards and disappears (boy, they are like ghosts). The 6 point then comes boradside about 12 yards and it's just too good a shot to pass up. Let the arrow fly and hit him right in the shoulder. He flinches and runs about 30 yards and drops, but can't see him. I know it was a good hit but like a good bow hunter I wait. After about 20 mins another buck comes along, another nice 6pt and goes to the exact spot where I hit the other 6pt and he start smelling the blood trail. I watch him for about 10 min then time to get down and find my buck. Dead right where I saw him drop. Another good year. Man I love bow hunting!
  9. yeah, sure was only saw him for a minute, not sure why he headed into the thick stuff, the other deer where still around. Didn't seem spooked I guess that's how they get to be that big.
  10. Thought I did put a picture let me try again

  12. Have been seeing all kinds of bucks, had a nice 8 pointer earlier this week grunting all around me but just couldn't draw him in closer than about 45 yards. Last night I went to a different spot where I have also seen a few bucks earlier in the season. About 5:00 he comes along a trail headed for my corn and stuck him at about 15yards. He ran about 75 yards and dropped. Not sure how many points this would be. Have been deer hunting for years but this is only my 3rd year with a bow, last year got a small doe, and missed several the first year. Bowhunting is a blast, should have started years ago!
  13. Here is another shot of his rack, very strange!
