  1. There will def be bucks still carrying their racks for the whole month of january and even beyond that. Not all but some so it's just a matter of seeing the right buck. Good Luck if you get back out.

  2. My season ended off not too bad.  I didnt shoot anything but i did see a lot of deer in the last two days and i could have shot about 8 does.  I was holding out for a nice buck but the only nice one i saw was from the car standing in my parking spot before first light.  He was a real nice 8 pointer.  Im going out on the 17th for one last try to bag a big buck with my shotgun then after that its time to start shed hunting and that should bring me right into spring turkey.  Does it ever end??????????????

  3. Hunted tonight on some private property.  Got in at 1:30 and had deer in front of me from then until i climbed down at 4:45 15 does and fawns but no bucks.  Place is loaded with deer. Tomorrow i'm going back with my brother to try and get a kill on film before the season ends.  Good luck to anybody going out tomorrow for the last day.  cbx most of the parking spots are plowed in but if you have a truck you can def just pull off the road enough to park and get into your spot.  i have seen some trucks parked on 51 by the parklands spots and they seem to be parking with no trouble at all.

  4. Went out this morning.  Roads werent to bad but as i was pulling into my hunting spot i saw that the plows only plowed half of the road and then left a 5 ft pile blocking off the way into my spot.  I really wanted to get into the woods so i got out and sholved a path to get my car through lol. I was able to get around the pile and as i was pulling up to my spot there was a big 8 pt standing on the side of the road.  Was the only deer i saw all morning but i found a spot loaded with tracks and ill be back in there tommorow for an all day hunt. I was planning on staying all day today but i didnt sleep well last night and i felt like crap this morning.  Snow was real deep in some spots but not bad in others.  Now that i know where i want to setup tomorrow shouldnt be too bad.

  8. I hunt off of North Rd. My friend has a house on Harvey Rd right in the middle of the Coventry St Forest.  I saw some nice bucks in there during bow season but just too far out of range.  Not much around during the gun season though.  I usually get up there at least 3 times during the season.

  9. It was def cold out this weekend and we stayed out most of the day on Sat and Sunday.  We saw about 11 deer on Sat morning and one looked like a nice buck but nothing came in close enough. After the hunt on Saturday morning we setup our stands so we could be in position for Sunday morning where all the deer were moving through but on Sunday as we were walking in the deer were already in there and we scared them out and that was it. There was nothing moving by our stands both afternoons.  Either way it was a good weekend to be in the woods.  Anybody else have any luck this weekend out on the Island?

  10. In the stand now.  Got up a two stands before light so we could film.  already saw 9 deer 7 does and 2 others dont know what they were.  im filming first so hopefully my brother takes one down so i can hunt the rest of the weekend :).  Good luck to everyone thats out!!!

  11. I have been videotaping deer as far back as i can remember and have hours and hours of nothing but deer and other wildlife on tape.  Before i was able to hunt i would just go out during the spring and summer and sit and film deer in the woods.  Now my brother and i try to videotape all of our hunts which is not an easy task.  We just picked up a sony fx7 hd camera and the quality of video is amazing. Now if we only had some monster bucks walking by our stands we would be in good shape lol. In 2007 i was still hunting in the pouring rain with the bow and was able to sneak up on a nice 8 pt bedded down in a brush lot. i had the camera with me and was able to get video of him before i shot him.  It was the most rewarding hunt i have ever had. The link is below.

  12. My brother and I are going to out to hunt some private land by rocky point this weekend.  We will be taking turns hunting and filming and with any luck we will be able to take a nice buck or doe on film. The land owner got trail cam pics of two nice bucks in the last few days so hopefully they will still be around.  Weather looks good so hopefully the deer will be moving. If we get one down ill post the hunt here for you guys to see. Good luck to anybody else that will be out hunting this weekend.

  13. Well i got back last night from Coventry.  There was about 6" of snow by my buddies house so it wasnt too bad.  Between the 3 of us we saw about 8 does and i saw a small spike that i passed on.  I know there are a few big boys that made it through b/c i saw some real nice buck tracks in the snow on Friday.  Now its time to get back out on the island and try to shoot one of those long island monsters with the bow  :) .

  14. Thanks for the reply.  10 to 12 isnt too bad but put together with the freezing weather we have been having it can make for some really brutal hunting.  Ive been up there a few times this year and we have seen some real nice bucks but havent gotten any shots.  Hopefully this will be the weekend!!! If i get one ill post it here.  Thanks again for the update.

  15. Hey guys,

Im going up to a friends house tomorrow in chenango county and i was just curious how much snow is up there.  I will be hunting in the town of coventry and i really hope there isnt too much snow.  If anybody has been around that area and could fill me in on the conditions that would be great.

    Thanks,

    John

  16. I hunted Greene county (4r) all last week and i was able to take a decent 8  with the bow on tuesday.  After that i was out filming my brother and the action just stopped completely.  I guess the warm weather and the moon had them moving at night.  Opening day i shot a nice buck but wasnt able to find him which im still upset about.  My brother shot a nice 5 point and my friend shot a big 8 on sunday morning.  This weekend im going up to my friends in Chenango County to try and take one of the monters that he has been seeing on his property.  Good luck to everybody that will be out this weekend. It should be a good one with the colder weather coming in.
