We've got the wood stove, and cast iron supplies. Opening weekend can't come soon enough
-
Recently purchased a cabin built by the amish. It will be primarily used as our "hunting camp". No electric or running water. What's everyone else"must haves" in their camps. We'll have beer of course. Looking to start some new traditions with the family.

The family and I have started a men's weekend up there for 3 years now. All 6 of us have never seen a tail. I prefer to stay on other properties I hunt since I'll see deer there. Although the beer seems to taste better on them cold nights at camp

Relief strap as well. don't need to drag far with a sidexside though

Has anyone used the amish archery shop on seager hill in conewango. stopped in to buy some arrows this week. Was impressed with the shop. Thinking about getting the bow restrung there.

Giving it a try this year. Bought body soap, laundry detergent, and the spray. I think I'll smell like a bakery. Anybody have luck with this stuff.

If you can get ahold of a thermal imager (if you or a friend are in a fire dept) they work great to find them at night

Time of day/ night for predators
Team Hoyt replied to Team Hoyt's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Thanks, we've always had luck when the moon lights up the fields, and from 6pm til 10ish. this weekend we have had no luck at all. But it's snowy and very cold. I think if we weren't getting the snow the cold would have helped. -
What's the best time day or night that everyone is having getting predators. Went out last night from dusk til about 10pm didn't even see a deer. Usually we have luck at that time frame. I thought with the very cold temp we'd have luck

We're in a predator hunt this weekend
-
We're in it

Who's going out this weekend? We're looking forward to getting out for the first time this year.

Find some Stateline along rivers, lake. you have waders now so you can get out chest deep. I'm new to it as well in the sothern tier, and that's all I do and have had success. I've never have tried field hunting. I know in the Olean/allegany area alot of the corn fields are leased out to a group that guide hunts. Get a dozen mallard decoys that you can find on sale, a call and your all set

We're going out next weekend can't wait, it's addicting -
That's a good one lol

It's cheaper if you order the call right from foxpro. huge advantage of getting it directly from foxpro is you get to choose what calls YOU want and not preloaded ones. we have best luck hunting at night in the fields. we use cyclops gun mounted light on the guns. foxpro offers a decoy attached to the caller that works great. we sit on the ground and call for apx 20mins. if we see nothing we move on. good luck to you.

Nice looking deer, hope he takes a dirt nap for you next year -
I've only shot it a hand full of times. I'm getting 4 shots within a quarter size at 75 yrds. however I'm using a Cabelas caliber specific scope. mine as well as my buddies (he's using same scope, same gun) keeps getting a good group, then it shots a couple off. they'd still be in the kill zone though. I'm having terrible trouble with the gun firing though. mine will fire 1 shot, I eject the round and 1 chambers. you go and fire the 2nd shot and it acts as if the safety is on, which it is not. in order to get it to fire I have to tap the accutrigger. very frustrating. I've read that this is a savage problem with this gun and they say to mail the gun into them for repair.

Purchased a savage . 17 wsm for this year. never had any coyotes come in to the calls, but the .223 was not fur friendly to the fox. Got a hunt in 2 wks well see how it works.
