  1. Like Turkeyfeathers said it's important to dress in layers and carry the heavier stuff into the stand so you don't sweat if you have a long walk. This goes for your feet as well. Buy yourself some hand and toe warmers they help when it gets real cold.
  2. Oddly enough I've never had this happen. Closest I've ever came was a buck that showed up with only 20 min of light left but he quickly came into a shooting lane.
  3. 12ga. Remington 1100 with Hornaday SST slugs. Been very reliable for many years and I don't want to change.

    Wow

I'm just the opposite, I'm on parental duty while the wife is out of town for work and i'm living vicariously through everyone else knowing today should be a great day for hunting. I'm still jealous though
  5. The most I do is 30 min before sunrise but it usually ends up being I start my walk 30 min before sunrise 15 min walk to my stand then a few min to get settled and ready to go just before legal shooting time. Last year late in the season it was cold out and the cabin was way to nice so I didn't leave until legal shooting. I ended up having a button buck 10 yards from the stand watch me get up and get settled in. I guess he just wanted to make sure I got up there OK.
  6. I think you made a solid choice, Plenty of season left to hunt and letting momma sleep might payoff later when you want to sneak out for a hunt. I always go out of my way to make sure momma is taken care of and I never get any slack for going out hunting.
  7. I really don't know what to say, prior to yesterday I didn't think Trump had much of a chance but as the night went on I was amazed that he was winning state after state and almost always had the electoral vote lead. I finally went to bad around 11:30 when the NY times had him at 90+% chance to win the presidency. When I woke up in the morning of course it was official he had won the Presidency and I feel that we as citizens avoided another 4 years of the political status quo. I also woke up to being called a rich white racist by the main stream media for voting for Trump. Oh well cant when em all I guess!
  8. Adk says it all right here. I completely agree and this is how I felt when I cast my vote today. I voted to try and oust the corrupt political elite bring in a fresh prospective on things. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  9. Welcome, good bunch of guys and gals in here.
  10. So if i am reading and hearing right if Trump takes Michigan its all but a done deal?
  11. I had ABC on for a while and they where doing a decent job of remaining neutral but as the night went on you could really tell they where getting nervous for Clinton.
  12. Trump better not go all Buffalo Bills on me!
  13. whats a good source of info for a Trump supporter to watch/follow? I don't have cable so i'm stuck with over the air channels and the internet.
  14. Great topic I was just thinking about this myself today. now that my daughter has been out with me a few times a want to get her into some of my real nice double stands for a better chance at seeing deer but i'm not doing that without having her in a harness. I will have to check out the mentioned harnesses.
  15. I'm waiting until after work. The wife and myself are taking the kids along with us so they can see what its all about. For the first time in my short presidential voting career I am truly nervous about the outcome of this election. And i'm not just nervous that my guy wont win I am also nervous that what will happen if he does win.
  16. Great thinking on using the thermal imaging camera. I've never heard of anyone else using one to help them.
  17. On a deer that is a one shot clean kill I am incredibly happy and thankful. I usually take some time to thank god for the opportunity and once down out of the stand and next to the deer I usually take a few more moments and thank the deer for its sacrifice. If it's a bad shot and the deer suffers before I'm able to finish the job I'm generally disapointed in myself for taking what ended up being a horrible shot. In the end that's not what I'm out there to do and thankfully that's only been a few times. I do still thank god for the opportunity and thank the deer for its sacrifice. I might even throw in an apology to the deer as well. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  18. What a day I ended up having. Only saw 2 deer never drew the bow back but had a great time. During the evening sit with my daughter we where a few hundred yards south of a friend up in his stand. Around 4:15 he sends me a text that a little 4 pointer is headed our way. I relay the message to her and show her which way to be on the lookout. Let me tell you the next 45 min flew by and she never once complained about being bored again! All day I was telling her that you could be having a bad day out in the woods but all it takes is 15 minutes to make it a good day as I told her some of my late day deer stories. As we are packing up getting ready to go in she tells me that it ended up being a good day! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  19. She's only 6. About 4 foot tall and a size 1 boot. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  20. Made it out for the evening with my daughter. I hope she lasts until sunset. Gonna have to get her some camo as she seems to be making this a regular thing now! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  21. Woods are active today just not with deer. I've got the sun beating down on me and it feels amazing. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
