  1. haven't used a decoy for myself in many years probably 20 plus years and I still kill birds every year no matter what state I hunt. I do use a hen when I take the kids but would never use a jake or gobbler decoy ever. no way am i having a legal target in front of me even on public land no matter how heavily posted or whos names on those posters because people will just walk right past them when they know a gobbler is there.
  2. Our grandson Gavin wanted to fish today so after I got done looking at a kitchen and 2nd floor addition job and walked in the hous at 10:Ryan he was standing there all dressed...Judy said he's been dressed for 30 minutes. A lot of people had left so off we went to go hit an areas I have avoided with the recent crowds. Drilled an offset series of holes and before I started the 2nd hole Gavin was already dropping his jig and was tight with a decent perch. For the next hour that was the routine me drill him catch then the fish would move. I drilled another 2 holes and for an hour we didn't move and pounded big fish. Then I had to drill 2 more holes and back on them again. Did that 2 more times and so in it was time to count fish. I had 47 in my bucket and he had 40. So we just walked back and dropped in our holes on the return run. I finished up in the first hole and Gavin hit 3 to get his last 10. He couldn't carry his bucket so he carried the auger back while I carried the fish buckets. He won the big fish of the day and we bagged 8lbs of cleaned fillets. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

  9. yes sir as well as other turkey calls and now grunt and bleat calls for deer.
  10. late season duck hunting can be a ton of fun BUT you need to be aware of your surroundings and keep safety as priority #1. With the ice, recent warm up and rain being in a stream hunting today is or could be a recipe for disaster. I have seen a lot in 40 years of chasing ducks up to and including rescues and recoveries. the most common thing I see is peoples lack of respect for water. water is the most powerful element on the planet in any form (as liquid, ice, or steam) they don't respect the power, the force, or the temperature, nor do they know how to read the currents of the water. The second most common thing I see is lack of an adequate boat, equipment and general boating knowledge, its amazing how many people have no concept of a boats stability, and or load capacity. Canoes like the one in that story are notorious for tipping and would never be my choice of a duck hunting boat in any kind of water. about the only thing that canoe would be used for might be to haul decoys. I talk to folks every year about boat safety when I see them at the ramp with a boat way under sized for where they are hunting. I try to tell them that this body of water is not to be taken lightly and with the ice water and cold temps safety needs to be kept priority #1. and generally there are few if any other boats around, so there will be no one to come help you if you get in trouble or at least not in a real timely fashion and in ice water time is everything.
  11. yes as well as ported barrels.
  12. not always true, each choke, load and barrel can be different. I have a couple 835's set up with kicks high flyer xfull chokes that throw a tremendous pattern, but all of my shotguns for waterfowl and turkey get special barrel work done to them and are patterned to a specific choke tube.
  13. the Amish buy those up, they put meat in them and then cover the meat with melted lard and let it set up and seal to the sides of the crock. they claim they can store meat for a long time like that.
  14. winchester sxp 3.5" with the xtra full choke been shooting 3 inch fiocchi #2's, I have been buying a case a season down home for 9.00 a box I have 2 back up 835's with kicks high flyer exra fulls, and 2 500's with full chokes as spares also. after my surgery I used the grandkids semi 20 with a full choke with 3" #2 only used it for a week then back to the 12 and just beared the pain.
