90gr of T7 with a .452 300gr Deep Curl wrapped in a crush rib sabot for my TC X7 from the start of muzzle loadeer season right throught the last weekend of rifle. On that day I will carry my NEF Heritage loader with 90gr of T7 and a 460gr No Excuses. The super 91-11 is going to be a safe queen this year , or atleast that is the plan as of now. Melvin sure does build a nice rifle, nice NULA. Good luck to all with this season.

What are you doing to prep for the 2012 Hunting Season?
sbuff replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
SteveB I had the same golfers Elbow,it was so bad during the hunting season I thought I needed surgery. After a cortazone shot and alot of PT its finally starting to feel better but still gets stiff from time to time. Don't forget to add get in shape,I usually start walking with the wife and my daughter now during the summer. You would be suprised how much walking/ hiking the body will do during hunting season. We all feel out of shape when dragging our deer out don't we !!! -
" My response was to "sbuff" who was telling me that I shouldn't be putting rifled slugs through a rifled barrel .." Eddie,I didn't tell you not to shoot them, I said rifled slugs are not intended to be shot out of a rifled barrel.I am pretty sure it will say that in any rifled slug barrel manual or company that sells the barrel.I have some older Remington sluggers and it states intended for smooth bore only. The last box of sabot slugs I had and tried it said for rifled barrel only.. I guess take it for what its worth. Hey if they shoot good for you and you get good groups, why mess with what works.

2012 NY Hunting Season Rule Changes

Did I miss when the early northern zone muzzle loader season is? -
Smoke them if you got them!!!!
-
Well I guess if it nots broke don't fix it but I wonder what your twist is as that would help in accuracy. Thank god i shoot a muzzle loader.
-
Over time the rifled slug will get lead in the lands of the barrel. Hence why they recommend sabot slugs in rifled barrels.I also think accuracy suffers because the rifled slug would not engage properly in a rifled barrel where a sabot slug would.I agree muzzle loading is far more fun and way cheeper to shoot. I can get fifty deep curls or xtps for 16bucks or so. Eddie what gun are you shooting them in and how are your groups.have you tried sabots to compare?
-
What kind of shotgun is it and what type of accuracy do you get?. Steve
-
Sabots slugs are big $$ ,one reason I shoot a muzzle loader year long. I am pretty sure Rifled slugs are Not intened for use in a Rifled barrel.Only sabot slugs are to be used.I would read your owners manual. Steve

Since getting my X7 a year or two ago my NEF heritgage has turned into a safe queen with my super 91-11.But I must say,I think I will take her out the last weekend of northern zone gun season just for old times sake this year. I too got a new scope on mine as my last one, a 3x9x40 Bushnell trophy died, mailed it back to them and a new one was sent no questions asked. Great service given from Bushnell.. I have so many .452 bullets it might be awhile before I can try some .44 out. Well thats good to hear MU will still produce them, I was shooting probably in the 100-150 rounds through it a year but that is now down to less then ten a year since the X7 moved in . I should be good with my plugs for now. I have to order some more BH209 from Carlos as I have been out since march. But still have plenty of T7,Swiss,and some pryodex pellets I want to try. Have you or anyone had good results with pryodex pellets, I have some I got DIRT cheap that I want to try out.T7 pellets have grouped well for me in the past. Steve
-
Bubba, you shoot the .44 more then the .45 if I recall.Do you like it better by choice or the better Balistic Coeff ,,,,, Did you ever get another MU plug for your NEF. I got two extra's now as I thought I heard through the grapevine Nick had left and they were using up what they had on stock, then they were done. Steve

Anyone doing any shooting in this heat?? I went the other day and man was it hot. I was shooting 90gr of T7 and a .452 300 gr speer deep curl in my X7. I also sighted in my NEF Heritage with some 460gr No Excuses. The X7 barrel was starting to heat up and I was getting some bullet drift in my POI.Time to wait to it gets a little cooler.

Very nice houses, one was driving a dodge with a cummings, all modern fire arms, air planes and what not. It was interseting but they are not hurting for money or food !!!

Suggested 777 charge for a Hornaday 300 gr sabot ?
sbuff replied to fasteddie's topic in Muzzleloaders
Agree with SteveB / Bubba... non-magnum XTP is what you want, atleast my thoughts as you won't reach speeds the Mag XTP was intended for .Lots of folks get better groups if you step up to the 300gr xtp's.That bullet has killed more deer then just about any bullet going. Steve -
What ever safe you get should have some sort of whole in the bottom to secure to a floor. Mine is elevated four inches off the ground with 2x4's . You could raise the safe and then run a lead cord to a AC outlet for the golden rod. As I stated it circulates warm air the whole time. I have never been a fan of the re-charge unit because you might forget to charge it one time.I oil my guns no more then before I had the safe . all is ok on laminated stocks, stainless and blued barrels now for years. What safe did you have in mind,?? One last thing,a gun safe is like a shed, you can never go to big. Steve
-
If you have AC in your safe, I would highly recommend getting whats called a goldenrod. . It circulates warm air through the safe.I have had one in my Cannon safe now for 3 years with no issues to report of.
