  1. whoops. Not feet but inches. It was enough for us to close transp the next day whick worked out for me to process the deer! My buddy Corey drove out to help me load it and by the time we were headed home could barely see. Glad it went right down soon after the shot.
  2. got my best buck 1 hr before a 10-12' snowstorm hit that night. But i have also seen a lot of deer after a rain/thunderstorm. I think during storms they have the sense to protect themselves and hunker down if they can so would make sense to see increased activity after.
  3. If your bow target has a broadhead side use that for your xbow . I just leave mine in the truck with the bolt in it and use it to shoot the xbow each time when I'm done. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  4. Used to fish it a ton. My favorite hooks were gamagatsu egg hooks. Hook gap used to be 1/2 inch dunno what it is now . I used a 7.5 ft rod with medium action. I liked 17lb test but these days braid with a 14-17 lb leader is the way to go. Gonna lose a lot of tackle in the rocks. After a while you get a feel for the drift and if one inhaled it. It was fun but haven't been in a lot of years. I always got there well before light and picked out my spot ahead of time. The best times when there was 6-8 of us all together and you could dominate a whole area and have people you know and help netting. We just used a rope or wire to put the fish on and leave them in the water tied to our belts. Then paid the few dollars to have them cleaned and bagged at a cleaning station. I gave the fish away as I didn't care for it. You can net them or beach them or tail them to land. Be careful tailing there isn't a hook in there that someone had the fish on and lost it. Sometimes people will net for you. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

  7. Good luck. I've had good luck with mine. Took my best buck ever with the xbow. I enjoy the change in weapons thru the season. Something different, almost like another opening day. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  8. Ive liked some I've made ok. But I always struggle with adding so much fat etc that it's not really venison sausage anymore. And really doesn't have a venison taste. Like Costanza's stuff is great but look at the ratio it's really pork sausage with venison. It's very good but doesn't really taste of venison. Pork is meant to be sausage to me. It's like going to the store and buying beef and saying I'm going to make sausage out of it. Nah. Your buying pork. So now I make a lot of pork homemade sausage which I enjoy so much more. And then use the venison for steaks, stews, grind, burgers only. And keep it venison forward. Corey's got it right when he says he makes something and people say ....you can't even tell it's venison. Then wth am I getting venison for? Lol. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  9. Venison cube steaks with mozz, wild mushrooms and horseradish on a toasted ciabata roll is just fabulous. I'm done forcing venison to be sausage. I like the venison flavor on its own. So making a couple of tougher cuts more tender is a great way to go other than grind/burger. Esp when I've gotten more than one deer and have plenty of regular steaks and grind already. 21. The hunt is still on. This still has a chance at a good ending story! Good luck! Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  22. Hunt #3 Littlefield 3:30-dark. Had a spike come up trail I walked up on. Came to about 16 yards from stand. Think he caught some movement though. I think he came back thru about 15 minutes later. Could see a deer body in same trail. Wouldn't shoot a spike anyway. Got busted on way out by a large body deer but dark enough and moving enough that couldn't see the head. Pulled nearby cams and only one buck in past week there. Also less doe pics. Think they have eaten all the good stuff in this little plot already. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  23. Made it out for a bit. Good luck everyone. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  24. Best news is this happened in the am so you can get back out before light is gone to see and still give a good amount of time. I would wait til like 2-3 hours before dark . Good luck ! And will be looking for pics of you and your buck! Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
  25. Agree here. Used to go in the dark and it seemed all I did was bump deer I couldn't see. I wait til there is just enough light to see outlines and have often been able to skirt deer I would have bumped otherwise. Plus like you said can see where I'm stepping. And whether a deer reacts to a light or not they still know something is there. I keep a clip on like Al said on my hat to use if needed. I have a headlight ready to go though in case I need to do a night track . Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
