  1. Some cam pics do not do some of these larger rack bucks justice. If he looks decent size in the pics, just wait till he's viewed in person. Had it the other way, also. They looked darn nice in the pics, not as nice in person. Night pics are not near as accurate as daylight shots, in my opinion.
  2. If you get a chance to visit the New York State Fair, you really have to stop by the NYBBC. display. Some really nice, informed people to talk to and really nice mounts on display. They have a new building location over near the racetrack.
  3. Just started on my list from last year projects. I am getting tied of emptying the rain pails in the living room. For this reason, I sure hope it gets cold snows soon, LOL. They tell me September and October are the busiest home improvement months of the year. Guess, I'll add to the number.
  4. Found myself shed hunting again on some free time Friday while scouting. I don't know if it's" ants in the pants" for the coming deer season or something telling me more are still out there.
  5. I've side lined my cams. It was ok for a while to maybe see what is out there, but I went back to the old'en days. More thrilling, for me seeing deer in person. More exciting during season too.More of a back to traditions hunter style. Call me old fashion, LOL. I still carry a pop and shoot on my walks, scouts, and hunts and get some, for me, wonderful pics..
  6. 5 1/2 LOL. I'll see if I can get them posted.
  7. I use a six foot still tine spring reset tiller in my driveways, LOL.. Make a few passes, lowering to your desired tilling depth. Traded for my last one, quite a few years ago for a buck and a quarter. My Ford 8n will pull it at 22hp., so I would think your 18 should. Then hit it with the disc. Grab a loader tractor and pick away.
  8. Gotta have a tv. in the kitchen to play those deer tapes and discs, LOL.
  9. Western side of wmu, bumper wild apple crop. Took weight off the limbs. Early drops are being absorbed. Some oaks have a blight with immature nut drop. Split husk hickory nuts have been falling for weeks. Going to be a more challenging hunt with all the food sources, this year.
  10. i thought the zone numbers were history? So now, we change the zones to regions. What a crock!
  11. Ah, Quickweed. I had quite an extensive conversation with a soil scientist at the South Carolina state college years back. Quickweed is quite common down there, as a result, as he stated due to their mild winters. The plant has evolved itself into actually germinating set seed in mid flight from the parent plant. Quickweed thrives in a high nitrogen level soils. An effect way they use for control is by planting sorghum sudan grass cover crop.. He stated anything to break up a plant reproductive cycle is an effective control tool. Makes sense! Thus, summer fallow is a cost control method I use for many plants for weed control. The greens and stems are quite high in minerals and can be eat'en. Maybe if you can't beat it, eat it! Not me, however. I don't eat weeds, LOL.
  12. I either summer fallow for wheat, or work up right after the hay comes off to reduce nitrogen loss in rotting sods and trash. i lean towards summer fallow, as every time weeds grow, disc down. That produces some nice clean wheat ground, come harvest, following year. I'd go with buckwheat next, since it's so late now. Sure will clean up the ground naturally. Get some mean flour too, LOL. Darn seed is expensive though. Common buckwheat is running high, a bushel for planting. High demand for pancake flour, the cause I understand. Lands all into corn and beans. I use to grow 40 acres back in the 70's. Get a good crop, maybe 25 bushel / acre, one in seven years. Mills paid $18 a hundred weight. Miss the buckwheat honey too, about 400 lbs.. Ramble, Ramble Ramble, LOL.
  13. Muzzleloader season should extend another month, in these doe only areas, instead of picking on the bow season.
  14. Tough call fasteddie, but it know doubt has some type of an influence. Some history of the property would be nice, to know and that can even change, some years. Grow, you like to make coyote coats, handbags, and rugs? Know you don.t mount antlers, but maybe a nice full size coyote mount with a rabbit in mouth would suit your living quarters.
  15. Happy Birthday Elmo! It's your day.
  16. Some of my best tasting apples are the wild ones on my property. Some of the worst tasting too. Old time varieties can't be had anymore.
  17. One area of the spot I planted came up good, then the crack grass came through, taking control of that entire area. Came in better than most peoples lawns, LOL. Timothy and clover was thinly growing in it on first work over. That quack seed will stay in the ground for years and regrow on turn over. Reworked it and now going into wheat next week. My other plots are starting to absorb the nitrogen. Plenty of moisture in the ground here too. Love it when a plan comes together. Looks like a good fall ahead for watching the bucks breed the doe, Starting to get itchey with this cool weather ahead, LOL.
  18. I hunt it all, dependent on weather conditions, time of the year, fruit and nut crop, and just plain how feel that day, My senses tell me where to go and I know how to get there, LOL. Don't limit yourself to just a couple options. You will evolve into a better hunter.
  19. Congrats grow! Newborns are some much fun and they grow so quickly. I love being a grandparent. My oldest is going for his first hunting adventure this season. I don't know who's more excited, him or grandpa. I named different areas of the farm after them. Of coarse, radish planted in all their spots, LOL.
  20. A member got me thinking here, I better get working on the last radish seeding. I went in with the tractor and work up another area, say just shy of an acre. The thunder spreading through the sky as I seeded radish, oats, vetch, and a little blue grass separately. Cyclone seeder worked great, except the vetch and bluegrass flowed out to quickly with setting on zero.. Installed my cardboard template to slow the flow. This should be enough radish for this year. One more spot for oats, then the wheat will go in, end of the month. Taking pics semi weekly and will post soon. Turkey and deer are already working on the first planted.
  21. Rain and thunders heading your way. Started here at a quarter to twelve.
  22. Great looking doe! I'd like to see more doe pics and video on here!
