  1. The way this years going, with everything a month ahead or better. I'd say flipping a coin will give you as good a choice. It might be snowing on Holloween To me, with the way this years going, all bets are off. I'd hate to be in your position with the choice, u have to make, but for what it's worth, good luck.
  2. One word- family. The memories will last a lift time. Your kids grow up so quickly. Enjoy the hunting experiences with them. I am so glad, I did. It does make a big difference with them when they grow up, believe me. I applause people taking their kids afield. I know your enjoying every minute of it, and they are too.
  3. Wouldn't anyone call the law right away? Get a report on file in case any problems down the road. Let law enforcement handle. It's their job.
  4. Looks goods. Corn depends if it sweet or field. Some short growing day sweet, don't get much taller. If it's field, it stunted, and will, most likely have nubs for ears. Their are some newer hybrids, that get maybe 6' to top of tassel though. Are the deer foraging the corn? The deer here use to eats the leaves right done to centers.
  5. All looks very good. A lot of work there. Very lucky to have apples. Trees here are very spotty.
  6. Fine looking crops. Did a nice job, and it shows. My second cutting hay look sick. Grasses all dead. 3 acre clover from frost seeding, 3".brown. Deer are hammering last years plant wheat, that's left from army worm. Pumpkins dead. A little frustrating, dry summers, bugs. Maybe things will green, seeing got an inch rainfall. Going to shoot for fall plantings, hope for the best. Shipped in a new 66' rotary tiller, that's gotta help.
  7. A deer that size is far more, than one person wanted to handle. Get a deer 200 lb. on the hoof, believe me, much nicer handling with two or more. Also terrain, slash'ins makes a huge difference. Oh, prefer dragg'in the big boy out. Of coarse. Had 164 lb doe, which we didn't mind dragg'in last either.
  8. Very interesting video. We've know the height theory for quite a few years, less spooking deer. Found this out, quite by accident. We always try to install cameras a least 6'., some farms, 10'., also for security reasons. Don't have to worry about scent so much. The video part makes sense, but doesn't it use film card space more rapidly, and shortens battery life?
  9. Talking chicken- Here a strange thing. Not a sitting hen this year. Young, middle aged, old. Didn't hatch one chick. Never happened before. Blame it on the year? Gona have to call Murray- McMurray.
  10. The way our local store looks here, say their on the verge of being sold, just opinion though. When u see the inventory cards go up off season, then u know.
  11. We like the final phase, Nov 28- Dec7, the big buck harvest stage, lol.
  12. I'm really interested in the spring harvest data 2012. Expect harvest #s to drop low here. But the big guy I saw 2 days ago lifted my spirits.
  13. Welcome aboard.. Indeed, their are some nice ones, smart ones here too. Good luck with your adventure. It's an enjoyable ride.
  14. The DEC. states their are high numbers, as well as low numbers in NYS, all could be in the same WMU.. They complete a 4 year management plan in 2009? turkey survey plan.htm
  15. Some very interesting points brought up, all good ones. Very strong arguements. Makes me wonder how 1000 hunters can make the determination for the whole hunting community. They lean towards the majority, but 1000 hunters at 20 meetings ,come on. Out of all of the 100s of thousand of hunting licenses sold in NY, Then they do a scientific survey, this decides the fate of the 5 year deer plan, OMG. Oh and the 30 day comment period, someone reads them and tosses in the garbage.
  16. Here it is, 2012 map. Moderators, could u pinn this please, thank you. More info: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/29461.html
  17. Always enjoy your pics. Are the hay fields become more mature, that they are going for more tender vegetation?
  18. The system was moving 65mph there. The way conditions were yesterday , warm front with low pressure, they could of been much worse, primed for tornado, hard to imagine. Good luck with clean up.
  19. I like to practice elevated. Set a stand up in the back yard. Shoot seated. Also standing hold my leg against the side rail of the stand. I'll even practice with one foot on the seat shooting behind. Then again, no fear of heights, but respect. Find it helps with balance. Also harnessed.
  20. I have more trouble getting busted going out to my stands. Cloudy days make it 10x worst. As early as 2pm some days. Also, early bow is bad mornings,5am.. Always bump deer then., sometimes 50 feet from the house. Have warm weather, then a cold front, always happens.
  21. An earlier start to the season would be just fine. Early youth archery would be great. Give the kids the mind set to think they may have that certain advantage. Why not give'm a weapon, they have better chance to fill a tag. Can't wait for my grand children to come out with me hunting, opening day or anytime.
  22. I was at the Gander in Watertown 3 years ago. Brother in law had a bass tourney meeting going on and give me a chance to look around. They stocked a lot of stuff our Tonawanda store never had. Coarse 3 years ago, talking about different kind of Gander. Wonderful area. Could fit right in to that country very nicely, but would have to buy a bigger snow shovel, lol.
  23. Doc, I totally agree with taking kids out during regular seasons, all for that. In today modern life style that children live, the good old basics get tossed on the back burner. Tell me what harm it does with an early youth hunt? That may be just the extra liitle push some of these kids need to introduce them into hunting. We have to do something to raise awareness. Hunting is a dieing sport in this state. Something has to be done to keep it alive.
  24. Glad everything turn out ok. People sometimes do not understand the power, that can be released in this type of storm. That system yesterday, had a series of bow echos. Kinda rare for this area.
